I didn't bother since I was acid testing them anyway, but I'll have to give that a try next time. I just ordered some to test from Shein since a few people were requesting it :P Thanks for watching!
Very enlightening & informative (your video), I bought tons of beautiful sterling silvers from Temu --- saying that silver in the main material, I am doing the ongoing vinegar acid test for 24 hours right now --- hoping it would tarnish vis-à-vis real silver
Interesting, I've never heard of that method! let me know how it turns out. Considering subscribing as I've got some Shein jewelry in the mail to try this with it as well...we'll soon see!
oh no! Did you make sure the listing didn't say "plated"? Some are a little sneaky, it says it in the title but it's hidden in the listing. Super frustrating, hope you got your money back!
Not always free shipping, if you order from a local warehouse on Temu. They charge for shipping. They do need to get rid of local warehouses or remove the shipping price.
Please what’s the name of this liquid that you used for check it ? And please Is the material you scratched ordinary sandpaper? Thank you for the video
Here is the link to the acid testing kit I use. It comes with a plate in the kit to scratch on (just fyi this is my amazon affiliate link): amzn.to/4cK0BPi
China stamps .925 when it's NOT .925 so don't assume its sterling based on where it comes from alone. Good idea to always test! Thanks for the great video.
ABSOLUTELY! And bunch of people did buy from temu and got fake-ies so definitely always a good idea to check!! Even if it isn't from Temu, honestly. I buy jewelry lots from ebay sometimes and even those from supposedly reputable sellers are fake occasionally (and not just 925 but 14k too, for example). Thanks for watching!
You always have to read the description read what it says the metals actually are which if you scroll down it'll have that and also always read the reviews I have never gone wrong when I did all that❤
I have a question: how would you know if it is "solid" sterling, as you may be testing (the amount rubbed off on the stone) the plated silver? I put clear polish on all my plated jewelry, so I don't need to worry about how long it will last or how long it will stay bright. thx for the video.
The best answer is: price. As a jewelry artist who works with real sterling silver, I can tell you that nobody, even the Chinese, can make real silver jewelry for the prices they sell on this site. Many of the designs sold on Temu are ripped off from jewelry artists who put a lot of thought and effort into creating their pieces. Usually, they even use the same copyrighted images. Sadly, this is so prevalent and Temu is so big that little can be done about this practice.
so sorry for my late reply! These pieces are somewhat thin and I rub somewhat hard to make sure. Another thing you can do is scrape back and forth and slowly make your way down on the plate. If it's plated the top of your scratches will show positive, and toward the bottom it will start to look negative. Also I've found that often the plated pieces are copper underneath, or at least a copper colored material so the scratch mark will also change color. Some people will risk making a deeper nick in the shank and test on top of the ring, but this damages the piece more than I'm personally comfortable with. I hope that made sense!
Do you think you would have to scratch harder to assure it was sterling? It could be plated and scratching just the surface might give you false readings?Good video though. I had no idea they sold sterling jewelry. Ive purchased vlogger stuff and have been pleased with what i got
I suppose I could but I don't want to scratch so hard I'm damaging the piece. I will say from close inspection they definitely do all feel and look like sold sterling (and I feel confident in my ID of it), and the acid test confirms. THAT SAID, their site does have a ton of plated items, but they are generally cheaper (like less than $2) and they do say within the listing that they're plated-- but they don't always disclose it in the title, so definitely best to be carefully read. Also as a US based warehouse, I do believe they would be under certain legalities in selling "fake" sterling marked as real sterling (whereas the overseas warehouses are not entirely held accountable). I hope that rant all made sense! Thanks for watching Jonathan and I hope you're doing well!!
Yes, the top layer should still react as blue, but if you keep scratching the mark will change, or not react. Also sometimes you can see the color difference under the plate (for example where you scratched will be copper colored)
It looks as if you've received white moonstone, not rainbow moonstone. In Canada its almost impossible to find white moonstone anymore usually its vintage. So I'd say you're lucky to have these stones. Thank you for posting yiur videos.
@@Lauraetcetera Hi Laura, it was used in lots of jewelry. It doesn't have any of the rainbow in it. Thats why it was called white. I had no reason to suspect that the sterling silver items were fake. Sterling silver isn't that pricey. When buying off of temu and any website, really, you have to check the description to find what kind of material the jewelry is. Anything saying "alloy" means it's only plated and will start to turn your finger green after the plating wears off, which happens quickly with cheap jewelry. If you don't want your jewelry to turn coppery and leave green stains, then only buy jewelry that is sterling silver or stainless steel.
Jewelry etc actually you got quite lucky I order a lot from Temu and every order I have ever gotten and I've been buying for 6 months now they take part of the chains on the necklaces kind of tie them in a knot but by the time I get them which is 9 days later from my order they that not has gotten so tight from going through the separators at the post office that it takes me at least an hour to get that knot out of the chains I need a lot of people I've talked to said they have experienced the same thing with them kind of tying the chains in a knot for shipping
I've bought several on Temu. All test as moissanite, except one which did actually say CZ in the picture when you scrolled down. Look out for that but their return policy is great anyway. I've found the round ones are cut better than the fancy shapes.
@@nataliebutler i have done diligent description reading. I can agree the best cut us round. My lilac cushion i bought solo is lazer inscribed and all matching card, paperwork and gra qr code all matched.

Plate is even used on white gold yellow gold etc Sterling silve then rhodium then 18k genuine gold So plate does not exactly mean any certain metal. Most common seems to be a metal alloy copper brass with electricro plate sterling silver
Rhodium is more expensive than platinum. If you get a sterling silver ring, that’s rhodium plated. It’s better quality because it stops it from tarnishing. It’s great to have a sterling silver piece of jewellery in rhodium.
I LOVE TEMU. I buy from them all the time. It can be hit and miss with the more expensive stuff but I have gotten tons of great jewelry making tools, storage, jewelry metal is crap but stones are real but buy carefully btw they have awesome iPad pencils
darn wish I had known about the pencils a couple weeks ago! Although I didn't even know about the website at that point soooooooo....thanks for sharing!
I had a coworker who used to argue with me saying the "W" site's sterling was real because it's impossible/illegal to fake-mark it. And I just stared at her with my copper-showing ".925 solid sterling silver necklace" that was turning my skin green like, please stop thinking like this. Companies lie. A lot. XD I usually look for bubbles in the metal from cheaper sites, things that look like a cheap mold knock-off, or just wear them for a week straight. Even the cutest rings I was sus about because they were so cute would tell in time.
Yes! no one is to be trusted! I think they would be very strict about it if the jewelry was manufactured in the US but overseas, they aren't at strict about regulations like that. I've had it the other way too, foreign jewelry that is unmarked but most definitely real precious metals. Thanks for watching!

Do you mean like a plated piece from the temu website? Or like the fake one I ordered from the other website? That one is long gone, that was at least a year or two ago I got that fakey from the other site. Thanks for commenting!
Just to clarify, they are a Chinese owned company with warehouses in the US. All their products are made in China and most are shipped from there. It is a marketplace platform just like the other popular websites.
Sorry to hear about the broken items! I think it's pretty hit & miss. Though the jewelry was all real, the tail on one of the cats broke off the first time I wore them! I guess with the prices you accept that some will be junk haha
This is not allllways true but definitely usually is. I did have a viewer of mine recently tell me a story of her ring made by a very reputable jeweler that was magnetic due to some alloys used in the outside coating (the dipped layer that is often done to protect golds from wear/tarnishing -- often rhodium of platinum but not always). Also every so often you get silver mixed with a magnetic alloy but I've personally never come across that...but the acid test tests beyond what a magnet can do so I usually skip the magnet (if I'm using acids that is). Anyway thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
If you scroll down and look for "details", it will tell you more about the item. An example of one that is plated: Details Plating: Other The Main Material: Zinc Alloy An example of one that is *probably* sterling: Details Plating: Other Theme: Holiday The Main Material: 925 Silver Looking at a few of them, it looks like if it's true sterling is might say "sterling" or "other" under plated. I haven't seen "none" but I imagine that would also work, so long as the main material is 925 silver. Hope that helps!
Do you mean a mass seller like these sites or something smaller? There are several here on youtube -- "Another Chance Resale -- Kristen D" (she does purses and jewelry), "My Jewelry Addiction", "Kiersten Red Resale" to name a few sellers here on youtube with quality pieces. I shop on ebay a lot but don't purchase from anyone with a seller rating of less than 99%.
On Etsy, I bought a Spiny oyster turquoise 925 silver bracelet from INDIA. Claimed it was handmade.nope , received it not marked 925 ,and was obviously not sterling. Also, not handmsde either. Several other shops based in India has the same bracelet.
I ordered a few rings from ebay/India seller and never got them :/ I really don't like what Etsy has turned into. There are so many sellers on there that aren't hand made, it's slowly turning into amazon.
That last ring does not look like sterling silver and malachites are generally fake. A proper cabochon should never be glued in. A properly set cabochon should not fall out. You get what you pay for.
It tested at it and it's definitely real malachite (I have quite the background in crystals, you can see more on my channel!) -- but I agree, absolutely unfortunate it was just glued in. This is likely a mass produced mold, and many similar sized stones are glued in for ease of mass production. The silver was very light weight due to it being thinner with lots of open metal work. It's definitely silver, but also definitely produced in a "cost effective" manor to keep the price down.
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch! I'm about to record an updated video on some new rings from Temu, including moissanite :) This time they're all pretty rings I'd wear, haha. I agree on the one ring looking more like a mans ring.
I had to delete one of my accounts as they told me something was fishy about my bank card bank said card was fine. So I then just now use my husband’s account and put my card on there and it worked hmm anyway yes Temu is cheap and Temu is addictive but Temu steals your information according to many folks so when you order maybe take your card off then put it back on next purchase. Anyway I’m here to see the jewelry thanks for the video ❤
Thanks so much!! I do wonder about that myself, but especially for the app. They REALLY, really want you to use their app which I never downloaded. Usually that comes with giving them permission to access info on your phone (not just them but lots of phone apps do this). Anyway thanks for commenting and watching!!
Those Rings especially the stones look super fake. I'm not at all buying any of the stones are real. Most counterfeit fake jewelry has the 925 stamp. I wish you would redo this test with the actual silver acid red is much easier to see than the blue which looks silver underneath anyway with the black background. I would have also like to see at least a comparison of a fake with the same testing done to actually believe your testing is authentic
My dad has bought loads of jewelry that was real gold and silver for pennies on the dollar over seas, especially in the Middle East and surprisingly Africa, while he was in the military. Just depends on where it is sourced. Of course if you’re buying jewelry near diamond or gold/silver mine, it’ll be a lot cheaper than buying it when the material or even the jewelry itself is imported. It sucks but America today has become too reliant on imported goods because of the consumer mentality that’s being driven into our brains every day. Our own manufacturing industry has declined sadly.
You actually have to dig a crevice and see if it is Real sterling silver go and watch the antique people that know how to actually test with silver or gold because the thing is just doing the top. Yes it’s gonna be silver on top but underneath it’s not going to be most probably.
agreed, however a harder scratch on these thinner pieces generally does the trick to get through the layers. I will say, definitely NOT a lot of weight to these pieces! Which is why they're so "cost effective", I'm sure. Thanks for watching!
It is not, they have a warehouse in the USA. I think it's more akin to amazon, whereas they stock a bunch in the USA warehouse but some comes from overseas. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

Saying that, I have an aztec hooded fleece my mum had bought and she needed pockets, so she gave me it and it fits me perfect. The tops I have bought for self has all been big for me
Ooh my goodness only buy Temu jewelry because you like it, and don’t expect it to be real. Know low and cheap prices means you only get to wear it a few times, before it turns a funny color or breaks, and if not consider yourself lucky
This is a good tip. But returning it was no problem at all, so I still think people should still read the listings, test the jewelry, then get a refund if it's not real. That way sellers who are lying aren't making money off of it. I hope that makes sense.
No, I do not believe they're solid sterling. If you look at the bottom of most it say PLATED. So what you've scratched on to your black pad is the plated silver. No way you can buy sterling silver chins for $2 or even $10. and free delivery.
How they do it so cheaply is something I'm definitely going to have to investigate. "The proof is in the pudding" though as they say! I scratch pretty hard to get under any plating and use methods my jeweler uses to test, and I trust him who has been in the business for the majority of his life not just selling but actually working with and making jewelry. I assume a lot of it has to do with cheap labor...also silver can be sourced much cheaper over seas than it is in the states. None of the pieces are what I would consider "great quality" or heirloom; will likely lose stones over time, for example...but for the price...also I explicitly made sure everything I bought did NOT say "plated", had to say 925 sterling. But you're right, you have to be careful purchasing from sites like this! I still don't advocate buying from sites like these; I think reputable youtube sellers are much, much better :P (there's an update in the description box below of my experience); wow, sorry for the wall of text! thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
interesting! wish they could manufacture some things here but I understand they couldn't keep the price points low that way. Thanks for sharing and commenting!
.925 means nothing anymore. They changed the law several years ago to overseas being able to stamp their jewelry with .925 if they have enough LAYERS OF SILVER over the alloy. I buy/sell/make jewelry. I bought 1/2 a dozen rings off of ebay, some of them EXACTLY what you bought, all marked .925, all of them turning green after 3-4 days of wear. I had SO MANY returns I had to make for customers. ALL of the rings/jewelry you were showing were silver PLATED, regardless of the stamp. I was hoping you would actually TEST THE METAL on air, so others would be aware of the new law change as well. Sadly, you did not.
I literally tested them in this video, so I'm not sure what you mean? How would you have tested them? I kept a few of these and wear them often, and have never had issues with my fingers or the ring changing color. Is it possible that these same molds could have been duplicated in lesser quality metals? I would imagine that happens often. I'm sorry you got raw deal on your ebay purchase. I hope that you were able to get your money back.
Also did you test them before you sold them to your customers? I definitely tell people to always do this, especially if they're going to be selling as silver, because you're right -- stamps mean diddly anymore! thanks for watching
Most Chinese companies stamp their jewellery 925 even when it isn’t. There’s no copyright laws over there or anything. Just because it’s stamped doesn’t mean a thing. Temu is garbage! Many silversmith artists in North America who work with sterling don’t stamp their jewellery because they can’t afford the stamp machine.
AGREED! People really need to be proactive with testing what they buy. I had an argument with a seller on ebay once because they sold me a lot of sterling and half of it was fake. I requested a refund and they argued it was all stamped. *eye roll*
@@Lauraetcetera The same thing happened to me. I bought a so-called genuine Tiffany and Co ring. It definitely wasn't sterling although it was stamped, and PayPal sided with the seller. I was so mad. I refuse to buy or sell on ebay anymore. 😤
@@tonykellydjt2805 really they don't, I've purchased 20 pieces of jewelry, just to test them out with acid and they all tarnished. I have yet to find any real jewelry.
What do you mean they tarnished? How are you testing it? Genuinely curious! Also sometimes it can be an alloy added to the silver that turns your finger green. Maybe that's the difference; it might be 92.5% silver then the rest a junkier/cheaper metal alloy? Hmmmmmm...
@@Lauraetcetera I took 5 rings I purchased on temu and took them to a jeweler after all 5 rings tarnished and turned my fingers green and the jeweler confirmed all 5 rings were not silver at all, these jewelries are made by Chinese fake jewelers, I guess they just want to make a quick buck from fake jewelries by selling them on an affordable sellers app. Trades of the fake jewelry businesses. Go figure.
Are they silver plated or solid silver. Because 4 out of 4 Items that I recently purchased were advertised as solid 925 sterling silver. Everything thing i received has started turning copper. So that's fraud to me. I don't think you are being fully truthful. You seem to be promoting more than anything. 27 minutes of your video is fawning over all the pieces. And 3 minutes of actual testing. Im still not sure if you claim it's solid silver or just plated.
It's solid; and you can read my follow up pinned comment about this company. I always try to be as truthful as I can; I found these to be solid sterling, that is what the acid testing proves. You have to be careful when you order; the listings will say "solid sterling 925" or something to that effect, but when you scroll down in the description it will say it's plated -- AVOID THOSE. I found all of these to be genuine but that does NOT mean everything is! This is why I advocate always testing your own metal purity (whether from here or any other place). If you were sold fake goods, definitely reach out to them for a refund. That's not right. Anyway as far as me "fawning over all the pieces" -- I am a jewelry nut! I really love jewelry, so does a lot of my audience, and so yes, there is a TON of ogling pretty things here. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

The silver may test sterling if it’s plated enough. The clothes, handbags, etc. are gross. They all come damp, oily, and smelly, not to mention what chemicals are on them. Did you pass a magnet over them to see if they stick?
I didn't bother since I was acid testing them anyway, but I'll have to give that a try next time. I just ordered some to test from Shein since a few people were requesting it :P Thanks for watching!
I ordered some rings marked 925 and I really do think they are silver plated but whatever is in the middle sticks to my magnet. @@Lauraetcetera
Every ring I have ordered is either silver over copper or silver over brass, all marked 925. I took a nail file to mine, I had 6.
oh no! Did you make sure the listing didn't say "plated"? Some are a little sneaky, it says it in the title but it's hidden in the listing. Super frustrating, hope you got your money back!
Exactly! Temu is not sterling. Items made in China will tell you anything! You get what you pay for. There’s no copyright laws enforced there either.
@@baublesanddolls Not everything in China is fake, as this video shows you
@@TrapezeMagician I, obviously generalizing, but EVERYTHING I've bought from Temu is cheap quality! Landfill basically
Not always free shipping, if you order from a local warehouse on Temu. They charge for shipping. They do need to get rid of local warehouses or remove the shipping price.
I think some of the 'silver' rings on temu are plated, although a lot of them are 925 silver.
Ive wondered about their moonstone so im glad to know at least some is real. Also the flying goat 🐐🪽 ring is great!😂

China stamps .925 when it's NOT .925 so don't assume its sterling based on where it comes from alone. Good idea to always test! Thanks for the great video.
Thanx😊
You always have to read the description read what it says the metals actually are which if you scroll down it'll have that and also always read the reviews I have never gone wrong when I did all that❤
YES, exactly!!!
I have a question: how would you know if it is "solid" sterling, as you may be testing (the amount rubbed off on the stone) the plated silver? I put clear polish on all my plated jewelry, so I don't need to worry about how long it will last or how long it will stay bright. thx for the video.
Doesn't that make it look like cheaper costume jewellery rather than silver?
I put the polish on the stones so they don't fall out. I have seen reviews where a stone fell out...then it is ruined.@@nataliebutler
@@Lauraetcetera I always appreciate the creativity of your videos! This was a great one!
But they do say silver plated would they still be blue if only plated?
Yes, the top layer should still react as blue, but if you keep scratching the mark will change, or not react. Also sometimes you can see the color difference under the plate (for example where you scratched will be copper colored)
It looks as if you've received white moonstone, not rainbow moonstone. In Canada its almost impossible to find white moonstone anymore usually its vintage. So I'd say you're lucky to have these stones. Thank you for posting yiur videos.

Thank you for doing this. I mean it's so cheap but at least we are getting Stirling silver, lol.
Great video! Thank you

Keep me in the loop about if you end up buying a bunch because I definitely am interested
I'm not sure if you're using a different type of acid, but I'm pretty sure it's actually supposed to turn red if it's real.
Plate is even used on white gold yellow gold etc
Sterling silve then rhodium then 18k genuine gold
So plate does not exactly mean any certain metal.
Most common seems to be a metal alloy copper brass with electricro plate sterling silver
Thank you so much!!! I need to do another one I think. It was fun!

Sorry to hear about the broken items! I think it's pretty hit & miss. Though the jewelry was all real, the tail on one of the cats broke off the first time I wore them! I guess with the prices you accept that some will be junk haha
Use a magnet. Silver and gold are not magnetic. If the piece reacts to the magnet, it is not sterling silver or gold.
So I need to make sure it says plated: none?
If you scroll down and look for "details", it will tell you more about the item. An example of one that is plated:
Details
Plating: Other
The Main Material: Zinc Alloy
An example of one that is *probably* sterling:
Details
Plating: Other
Theme: Holiday
The Main Material: 925 Silver
Looking at a few of them, it looks like if it's true sterling is might say "sterling" or "other" under plated. I haven't seen "none" but I imagine that would also work, so long as the main material is 925 silver. Hope that helps!
Anyone knows of good reputable sellers that actually have real silver pieces?

Those Rings especially the stones look super fake. I'm not at all buying any of the stones are real. Most counterfeit fake jewelry has the 925 stamp. I wish you would redo this test with the actual silver acid red is much easier to see than the blue which looks silver underneath anyway with the black background. I would have also like to see at least a comparison of a fake with the same testing done to actually believe your testing is authentic
i did re-do this video actually
How are they able to sell real silver so cheap? Makes me wonder if the US have been scamming us all along..

I hope that makes sense.

oh my gosh this is such a sweet comment! Thank you so much!
But you're right, you have to be careful purchasing from sites like this! .925 means nothing anymore.
*eye roll*
