Wish I still had my '77 Thumper. My friends hated getting stuck behind me because I'd shower them with rocks from all the torque, hahaha. Bought brand new in 1977 from Hy-Jynks Yamaha in Norwalk, CA. I don't remember exactly what I paid for it but it was around $1300 total. Still the best dirt bike I ever owned!
You can also see the massive amount of suspension mods he did. the swing arm is longer with modern shocks, and it also has different front forks. He has probably about twice the travel that the stock bike did. Awesome to see that old beast kickin' some two stroke tail. My dad had one and when he got rid of it a few years ago the only left that was still good was the motor. We kept it for something, couldn't give it up yet.
Its all about experience... on two or four stroke, tire new till its bald , daily basis. thats what its all about. Im tired of wussys criticizing whos better on whatever they ride. Its just about just jammin the throttle, not fear the jump without backing off throttle periold... Let it hook up as long U know the track well.
Torque Monster? You’ve got to be kidding. That 4-stroke tank is underpowered, grossly overweight and stupid loud. And torque? Any good running, newer 250, 2-stroke makes more torque than that pig! What a joke!!!

Got a picture of me at an open meeting got the hole shot left em for dead on my 560 Armstrong with a rotax engine, in the corner of the picture is a guy on a cr 500 on the back wheel hanging on for dear life. Needless to say he wiped us all out in the first corner I laugh when I see these two pictures before and after, at the time I wanted to kill the dude 😎😎
i need to get back in too my motocross. i have 8 tt 500 2 tt 600 5 xt 500 2 soft tail harley davidsons 2 pit bikes 4 kx 500 1 cr 500 2 pe 400 and 175 and yah
Esas motos eran más de poder de fuerza pero eran muy pesadas por eso no se podía hacer saltos muy altos y el tipo de chasis también no era tan fuerte como la de las motocicletas modernas
i have a 81 Suzuki DR500 that has a oil leak on the left side above the spark plug ware the cam shaft hole is and no one knows what to do or how to fix ...it leaks just enuf to drip oil on the pipe and smoke any clue on how to fix
look at that 4 stroke pull away from the others sounds like theres some two strokes in there 4 strokes suck huh i own a tt 5000 and it smokes my friends honda 250 2006

I love the holeshot at 1:50. Those YSS shocks work real well. I have them to on my PE/RM's. Looks like a Loooong swingarm you there.

@SoobaaSteve, thats because you have never ridden a real 4 stroke, 2 strokes have top end but 4 strokes have torque.

4-strokes make considerably less torque than an equal displacement 2-stroke.
