- Progesterone is important for sleep, mood, bone density and brain health and starts to decline in most women around age 40. We discuss in this video why you may need to take progesterone replacement, even if you don't have a uterus, and which form of progesterone replacement is best.
Thank you very much for explaining about the function of progesterone! I didn't know that. Ive happily been talking HRT which is a combination of estrogen patch and progestin pills. I just recently learned that there are prescription pills with natural progesterone and planned to ask my gynecologist if I should switch to it next time I see her. Now I'm much more convinced that's the absolutely right thing to do. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this video! Super helpful and it just reinforced my suspicion that I need to get on a progesterone supplement.
Hi Dr can you also talk about estradiol cream that’s prescription to be used with progesterone pills
I insert the micronized progesterone pill every night and I use divigel(1.25mg) every morning. The reason why I insert instead of orally taking the progesterone is because I keep having terrible insomnia whenever I tried switching to the oral method…is this okay? I have osteopenia and i’m in my early 40s. I stopped doing period from five years ago. My FSH is good(one digit number) but somehow I’m not ovulating. So my OGBYN prescribed me of the oral progesterone and the estradial patch. I was wondering if it is okay to keep doing the vaginal insertion to protect the uterus. I guess it it not going to help me with preventing the osteoporosis then, right? Because it is not going through my system such as liver and kidney…so confused here
you need the progesterone to be converted in the gut to a water dissolvable product to get into the uterus and protect the lining--try taking the oral capsule earlier in the day and see if that helps.
@@dianginsberg942 thank you! I’ll try taking it earlier in the afternoon!
I have been using the method above for about three years now
If young plasma rejuvenates, shouldn't it stop hot flashes?
Dr Ginsberg. Thank you for this video. Are you saying that progesterone cream from a compounding pharmacy is no good?
Let me rephrase. Do you feel the progesterone pill is preferable over the cream. I get my cream from Campbells Compounding Pharmacy.
PS ..I have always loved how you explain things in such detail!! Thanks again.
So if just in menopause (no period for 12 months now) and taking Estrogel plus having a Mirena, there is still value in also taking oral progesterone? Can this lead to having too much progesterone due to 2 sources? Could one become estrogen dominant if not balancing it with oral progesterone despite having a Mirena?
there is NO progesterone in mirena--only fake progestin-pull the mirena out and start on good oral progesterone
How about compunded progesterone creme? Is that ok? I can’t take the micronized. It’s filled with peanut oil and I have a peanut intolerance.
no cream--it wont penetrate. there is no peanut oil in compounded oral progesterone only the prometrium-big pharma's version. the compounding phamacy can mix a great slow release capsule you will take in the evening and it will help you sleep and protect your uterus
Ridiculous!
