One more Romano thought to go with my comments...it was an impingement, not TJ...I'd still rather have him for 6-7M, knowing what he can be, than not have him.
Hey Jim…..Always enjoy your takes. My take on Romano. When your ace reliever who was expected to be out 6 weeks after surgery on July 3rd (coming off a 15 day DL stint) and he still hasn’t tossed off a mound isn’t worth the 7.75 million risk. In the now moment, his arm isn’t worth 7.75 mil. Hope I’m wrong and he lands somewhere and is healthy and productive, but at this point, it’s a roll of the dice and the Jays can spend extra cash on wait and see in a do or season for them.
My assumption on Romano is that the Jays have more information than us on his current health situation and that's why they did what they did. If there's a chance he pitches again I hope they give him some sort of reduced deal. If he ends up pitching great for another team that's just another reason why this management shouldn't be involved in baseball.
2 years ago they said they would address pitching and D. They finished first in both categories the next season. Domination. There was no reason to believe the same pitching core would be so terrible the next season I trust them to get it back on track. It would be nice if Romano came back for cheaper, but by being non-tendered means that no team would give anything for him @ that price, so it will never be a mistake to have released him. Even if he goes on to dominate somewhere else.
My thoughts exactly, Romano is both good and a fan favourite, it only makes sense to non-tender him if his arm is mincemeat or something at this point.
Feel like the cubs freed the way for some of these prospects to come up and make an impact. Still need to solidify the bullpen and get some power in the lineup.
Brady Singer was expendable to get India, I like this move. Royals also need outfield help, Anthony Santander should be the target. They could also use another bullpen arm. So it looks like my Royals are all in in 2025!!!
Good morning Jim listen, I’m a New York Yankee fan big time. I know you’re a Toronto Bluejay fan all these month’s I never had the courage to listen to your show Because you were a Toronto Blue Jays fan but one day I watched it and you’re OK. You just tell the truth now I watch you almost every day I want to thank you for your show and thank you for being you and being honest. Have a blessed day, my friend.! Go Yankees !💪
As a White Sox fan I can see them grabbing a few of these guys for fill-ins during the rebuild. Especially Quantrill and Rogers. I'm not as high on Finnegan as you are Jim. His WHIP is not very good for a closer and it was not great in past years either. As a Cubs fan I agree with you. Spend the money! Also, they have a log jam at AAA so seeing some of these older guys leave gives them room to bring up a couple of younger players.
If (big IF) those teams use that money to add pitching, the Romano and Finnegan non-tenders make sense. The RP on the market are pretty good, take that 7M you save and get an upgrade at 10-12M.
Could it not only about money, but about 40-man roster space? I'm a Dodger fan, I think the Dodgers are at 38 on their 40-man roster. Even with all free agents off the roster, because the 60-day IL players have replaced them on the 40-man roster. They can't be put back on the 60-day IL until spring training. Just a thought.
As a Cubs fan the only one that really bothered me was Tauchman. He had some big clutch moments for them. If you can’t keep him at least try to trade him.
Connor Joe was virtually unplayable after April and was riding the bench for most of the last two months. I feel like if they would have released him in September no one would have batted an eye but because it’s a non-tender people are trying to act like it’s a big deal.
You might be a bit too hard on the Cubs. Tauchman was the only questionable release. He’s from Chicago. Played some pivotal games too. Came in clutch several times. He’ll be missed.
Romano has a bum elbow now. And if you've watched him it's pretty easy to think he's more lucky than good. I admit his slider was unhittable at one time.
Obviously the Jays are not at all comfortable with the medical reports for Romano . Lets reserve judgement on this move until we see how Romano performs in 2025 assuming he does pitch .
Sandoval won't pitch in '25 and will have an innings limit on '26. It makes perfect sense for the Angels to non-tender him. They'll look to resign him to a 2 year with an option for a 3rd for about the same money that they would have paid him for the 2 years of control remaining. Also, I wouldn't call the Royals/Reds trade a "great trade" I think it's more of a gamble for both teams on players who have been inconsistent in their careers, but have potential to be nice above replacement level pieces. I like it more for the Reds, since you can't ever have enough pitching and India just doesn't seem to fit with the Royals
The cubs do not need starting pitching. They need a power bat. Everyone one the list was fine with letting go besides Tauchman but the cubs have way too many young outfielders that are being blocked by him
I know you like bashing the jays but bashing them over romono is just hypocritical. There’s large concerns about his elbow (I’m assuming he is hurt) and Fangraphs had him around 8 mill. If he’s not healthy that 8 mill can be spent much better. Not to mention all off-season saying you don’t think they have money but call them cheap for non tendering romono, which between him and tate saves 10 mill.
Jim is a Blue Jays fan I find he is more positive than negative. I do disagree with his take on Romano but that is what is great about being able to express your opinion on different issues.
What a bunch of crap. This is the evolution of MLB. Move also runs and keep the roster moving. I think teams are smart to move mediocrity and replace them with young hungry players. Stars produce and go on for long careers Others less fortunate have to fight their way for roster spots.
Romano has an elbow issue that he hasn't dealt with people...lol do your research.....they have either gotten info his arm is still glass or they are going to lengthen his deal to like a 3 yr 12 million to help lower aav...its really not that bad, it feels as if the Jays are up to something because this franchise doesn't make moves like this unless they know things.
Romano is obviously damaged goods. Come on Jim, you're smarter than this. Obviously there wasn't a deal for any of these guys. CAL QUANTRILL 9 million dollars for 1.52 whip 5 ERA pitcher? Who would pay that? Finnegan blew 20% of his save opportunities the last 2 seasons. Still love ya brother
Normally love the content and can follow the thoughts… Saying your going to save money by dropping 2 guys who were below average that to replace average level of play in FA it would be more expensive? Unless they replace them with pre-Arb players they aren’t saving money and they know that
I would not want to play in Toronto for anything.Maybe it's different for athletes but that country is not liked by America right now and they have to get rid of Trudeau and all like him.
Romano probably isnt healthy and has been losing velo so it probably didn't make sense to tender him a contract. The jays need a lot of relievers though
One more Romano thought to go with my comments...it was an impingement, not TJ...I'd still rather have him for 6-7M, knowing what he can be, than not have him.

It was 7.75 million and he probably isn't healthy yet so it didn't make sense. We don't really know
My assumption on Romano is that the Jays have more information than us on his current health situation and that's why they did what they did. I agree. A both ways. India didn’t have a spot in Cincy and picked up pitching they needed. Lengthened the Royals lineup. Makes sense all around.
Great Trade with the Reds & Royals
Love your take on my Royals...Great move getting India, next we need that corner outfield bat & we are set 👌🏻
We need another starter too.
Ive been arguing with other Reds fans about that trade. I think its a great trade to get a starter for India.
Hey, we got our first major trade of the off-season with the Reds and Royals
Feel like the cubs freed the way for some of these prospects to come up and make an impact. Still need to solidify the bullpen and get some power in the lineup.
Brady Singer was expendable to get India, I like this move. Royals also need outfield help, Anthony Santander should be the target. They could also use another bullpen arm. So it looks like my Royals are all in in 2025!!!
Knew the Cubs were unloading several guys, Tauchman was the only one I was surprised they let go.
Good morning Jim listen, I’m a New York Yankee fan big time. Do you think that the india and singer trade market the start of a Hot trade market season?
Not every Pittsburgh move is about money. Bryan DeLaCruz is objectively terrible.
If (big IF) those teams use that money to add pitching, the Romano and Finnegan non-tenders make sense. The RP on the market are pretty good, take that 7M you save and get an upgrade at 10-12M.

Totally agree nationals effed up and should have traded Finnegan at 24 trade deadline, especially for what they could have got
As a Cubs fan the only one that really bothered me was Tauchman. He had some big clutch moments for them. If you can’t keep him at least try to trade him.
The Mets should sign either Kyle Fi began and Jordan Romano.
Connor Joe was virtually unplayable after April and was riding the bench for most of the last two months. I feel like if they would have released him in September no one would have batted an eye but because it’s a non-tender people are trying to act like it’s a big deal.
I’m a huge cubs fan and I’m ticked off that we let Tauchman go
Orioles non-tendered Webb and Colombe…both fan favorites and had decent years, sparing some injury
I do see the economy be much worse next year. I see attendance taken a hit next year. I get why teams are saving money.
You might be a bit too hard on the Cubs. Tauchman was the only questionable release. He’s from Chicago. Played some pivotal games too. Came in clutch several times. He’ll be missed.
I thought Mike Tauchman was doing well for the cubs
I can just imagine it now, Dodger pick up Romano and he becomes one of the best arms in the game.
Glad to hear rizzo being criticized
Romano has a bum elbow now. And if you've watched him it's pretty easy to think he's more lucky than good. I admit his slider was unhittable at one time.
Brennen Davis is unfortunately always injured and we cannot waste a 40 man roster spot. Sucks to loose tauchman but cubs OF is way too crowded.
Obviously the Jays are not at all comfortable with the medical reports for Romano . Lets reserve judgement on this move until we see how Romano performs in 2025 assuming he does pitch .

Nice trade
No reason any of these teams don't spend the money.

How is he bashing the jays when he literally is a jays fan 😭
@ what does being a jays fan have to do with being constantly negative about the jays? Both can be true at the same time
He's bashing the jays bc they are shit....get used to it
Shite management making shite decisions. Jays front office are half wits and deserve the bashing
Jim is a Blue Jays fan I find he is more positive than negative. I do disagree with his take on Romano but that is what is great about being able to express your opinion on different issues.
Chargois cut by the Mariners 😅
8 million dollars gets you a better player than de la Cruz and Joe. Kepler is a significant upgrade. Conforto is a significant upgrade.
Reds have depth in the infield so I believe they won the trade but India needed out.
Braves about to find some new player! AA going to be like a kid in a candy store!
Alex Anthopoulos about to have a field day with these non tenders 👀
The PIRATES just love tanking.
Im glad Seattle non-temdered Rojas. He should not have been the starting 3rd baseman.
What did the Rangers do? They had six up.
Only question is de la cruz
What a bunch of crap. This is the evolution of MLB. Move also runs and keep the roster moving. I think teams are smart to move mediocrity and replace them with young hungry players. Stars produce and go on for long careers Others less fortunate have to fight their way for roster spots.
Astros have made offer to bregman per source

Ramono could have shoulder issues ??
JT was on the mariners
@@zayuhhhhhh you’ll have to excuse me…I apparently flashed back a couple years while I was in the middle of this thing.
@BALLCAPSports no worries I appreciate you addressing the fact. Big fan love the vids keep it up👍🏽
I think k blue Jay's feel like Romanos arm is done
no offense but I hate that hat can you go back to the Jays one
Romano is obviously damaged goods. Come on Jim, you're smarter than this. Obviously there wasn't a deal for any of these guys. CAL QUANTRILL 9 million dollars for 1.52 whip 5 ERA pitcher? Who would pay that? Finnegan blew 20% of his save opportunities the last 2 seasons. Still love ya brother
Astros no non-tender players
H ello

Pmh
rangers will def take Romano
The PIRATES just love tankong.
Finnegan and Romano will be steals
I would not want to play in Toronto for anything.Maybe it's different for athletes but that country is not liked by America right now and they have to get rid of Trudeau and all like him.
You'll be okay buddy.
Cubs will invest that money in ricketts pocket
Romano probably isnt healthy and has been losing velo so it probably didn't make sense to tender him a contract. The jays need a lot of relievers though
