It can be calculated theoretically... Like for 17 Oxygen.... arrangement for off nuclei is ..1s^2(1/2) 1p^4(3/2) 1p^2(1/2) 1d^1(5/2) ... So the spin is 5/2
Yes you are absolutely right I have done that in this video in detail th-cam.com/video/_NNweExzEBI/w-d-xo.html thanks for watching and I appreciate your concern thanks 🙏
Sorry for the delay, m value of 14N is 3 in numbers (+1,0,-1) i.e., it can have three orientation for better understanding you can see this video th-cam.com/video/S9SHZuDMc34/w-d-xo.html thanks for watching 🙏
Thank you for your kind words, spin quantum number is mi = 2 (I) + 1, value. This mi tell us about the orientation of the total angular momentum of nuclei about the z axis. Eg, I = 1/2, mi = 2x1/2+1= 2, I.e., = +I to -I included 0 or I ,I-1,I-2....till-I; so here we have 1/2 and -1/2. Therefore nuclei with I =1/2 have only 2 orientations one is parallel to B and another is anti parallel to B. Similarly nuclei with I = 1, mi=3 means three orientations corresponding to 1, 0,-1 ( I, I-1andI-2 beyond -I we can’t go) in this we have one orientation in the direction of B (for 1) one is opposite to B ( for-1) and one is perpendicular to B. I hope I am able to explain this for more information You can find this in several books. 😊

@@bestscenes4151 okay you post your question exactly that you want to know about mi( magnetic spin quantum no) total angular momentum and how it orient itself in external magnetic field. and also you can see the ‘role of angular momentum in nmr’ video which is next to this where I carry forward this concept you might understand the concept. Thank you
Yes that is why we have only one value of magnetic moment mu =0 (here we have one value with magnitude 0)you are mixing two terms I and 2I+1 value please rethink the above said terms to resolve the point, if still you don’t get you can write me again, thanks for watching 🙏
@Jacob thanks for watching this channel. 26Fe(53) is having (p=26 even and n=27 odd) so its nuclear spin will be calculated by odd neutrons. The filling of neutrons = 1s1/2 (2n), 1p3/2 (4n), 1p1/2 (2n), 1d5/2 (6n), 2s1/2 (2n), 1d3/2 (4n), 1f7/2 (3n) since last neutron filled in 1f7/2 therefore its nuclear spin is 7/2. for more details please follow the video here I have discussed variety of examples th-cam.com/video/_NNweExzEBI/w-d-xo.html Thanks.
It's more complicated than this but 12C has 6 protons and 6 neutrons (even numbers of these entities), so magnetic moments are cancelled out due to proton and neutron pairing, which makes I=0 and μ=0. When odd numbers are present, you have to consider the unpairing of the proton and/or the neutron.
