Nothing beats a solid prespawn bite. The size of the fish you were catching(relatively small for that area) just goes to show the importance of releasing the dragons. RELEASE THE DRAGONS PEOPLE AND WE WILL HAVE THE BEST FISHERY IN THE WORLD FOR NORTHERN SNAKEHEADS....
Couldn’t have said it better brother. The days we’ve had there in previous years are a testament to your point. We either want a world class fishery or we don’t.

At the expense of our native species ? Yellow perch and small mouth already taking a hit this is an ignorant ass statement. Anglers choice but at least be educated and aware of the impact. DNR to release some updated surveys in the next few weeks I believe.
@@DevM47 #1 smallmouth are NOT native to maryland. #2 there has yet to be any PUBLISHED studies/data showing that snakehead are having an impact. #3 don't just assume someone is not educated because they don't agree with your stance.
@@DevM47 I’ll assess the reports when they’re released.
If they’re peer reviewed studies which convincingly establish causality through multivariate analysis with survey statistics extending well before and after snakehead introduction, along with surveys of the snakehead population to show their numerical weight, then I’ll take them seriously.
If instead they are simply unpublished surveys which show a decline in yellow perch and/or smallmouth bass in some areas, without a detailed account of the data influencing their conclusions, I’ll give them very little weight.
MD is very quick to dismiss pollution, habitat destruction, overharvest, and water quality degradation and blame Snakehead for our issues because the Snakehead don’t have a voting constituency that blocks the needed reforms to improve our waterways and fisheries.
Love the vids. Im really learning a lot. Caught my first couple of snakeheads last week and definitely have the bug now. Beautiful species and great game fish. Keep it up!

Wish we could make some time to get to the east side, but it's not in the cards right now. We are going to try and catch a few on a lake next time we head out crappie fishing though. We know they're in there, we've seen them along the shore, and the muddy cove we fish for crappie in might be just the ticket to catch one coming up from it's winter in the mud bottom!

@@KambotroutFishing Will do. It will turn into a video either way though. LOL. We hope it's better than our trip yesterday, We were fishing a reliable spot, and all we got were tiny males, seems like the water in the lakes here is still a bit cold for the slabs to be coming up yet.

Thanks brother. The color variation in this species can be incredible. White highlights around the brown and black patterns, nearly jet black specimens, just a wild variety.

The Chester very much has snakehead now. So does the Corsica. The Choptank does as well but they’re not as well established there from what I’ve heard. Tuckahoe below the spillway also has them though I don’t think they’ve reached peak numbers yet.

I use 30-50 pound suffix braid. I’ve never used a leader and never had an issue, but I do have some friends who use a 50lb leader when they’re using 30-40 pound line.

is there a reason why you took off the skirt of the live target mouse ? better for walking ? great video 💯
Much of this video was actually shot with another mouse which has since been discontinued and is no longer in production. I later used the live target mouse though with good results and I kept it in tact 👍
@@KambotroutFishing ahhh i see, is there a particular reason why you chose to use to mouse instead of the snakehead charmer ?
@@bobdmt4320 the snakehead bite really seems to vary from area to area in terms of the presentations they like.
Up in NJ and DE, they like a moving bait like a slow rolled charmer, rather then the very slowly worked topwater hollow bodies down here in MD. For the latter, I refer the mouse, but the charmers also have a V2 now which can be worker very slowly as well.
The mouse though has a more slender profile and tail wave that seems to really drive them crazy down here, perhaps because it imitates a baitfish so well.
In sum then, I think lure choice varies a bit by region. I own both and throw both, but that slender mouse often (but not always) outperforms for me down here. Jesse James is working on a model similar to it though and I’m very excited to try it 👍

Can you target them with any consistency far up the bay?
They’re in good numbers and size in the upper bay, but this year, the bite is still just starting to develop. Cooler water temps have kept the bite depressed on the northern bay this spring

The bowfin not so much. Snakehead are arguably the best eating in freshwater 👍

The snakehead bite is so damn fickle from day to day lol. One day can be fire and the next they have lockjaw.
On this day, I nailed 20+ fish in the AM and then they shutdown in the PM (only had 4 bites from 4-7 PM).
@@KambotroutFishing truth. Bite was turning on as we were leaving around 1. Wish we could have stayed longer... never enough time to fish.
