Great assortment of German "Notgeld" (emergency money) which was issued due to rising inflation during the early 1920s. What you got there are the so called "Serienscheine" (set issues) which were produced mainly for collectors and not for circulation. Don´t be frustrated on the German poems, e.g. the Paderborn issues were written in dialect which sometimes is even hard to understand for younger Germans. So, there are two types of emergency money, the "real ones" made for circulation and the collector´s items (Serienscheine). That´s what you got. Not worth a fortune, but nice to look at. There are thousands of different types to collect which are listed in specialized catalogues. Greets from GER, U.

This hobby and community is as much about history as it is about gold and silver. Thanks Ben.

Those are very cool notes, I have never seen those before. I have family and heritage in Germany. There is even a town east of Hamburg that my Uncle and I visited several years ago that I share the name with. This town of Poggensee was founded in 1230. The family crest is a frog or a pogg surrounded by water.

Yup, Poggensee is a village east of Hamburg. The meaning of this name is "frog lake". Greets from GER, U.

Have a whole book of these notes. Fascinating stuff and beautiful designs.
Usually paid about a dollar for each. Not a valuable part of my overall collection but great bang for the buck.
Love this stuff and buy it when I see it.

Learn something new every time I watch. I had no idea there were beavers in Europe and Asia: Castor Fiber -- Eurasian beaver.

I noticed references to the Saale and Elbe, two rivers in the eastern part of Germany. Aken is a municipality. My grandfather emigrated shortly after WW1 and brought some of his hyperinflation marks with him. I have a couple of notes in relatively poor condition. One is for 10 million marks. I'm guessing that you didn't get any change back when buying a loaf of bread.

I've got a small collection of emergency issue money, but more focused on the larger denominations (which I believe are called grossgeld). It would be great if sometime down the road you spent an episode talking about those and how people collect them.

As I am from Germany, I have seen quite a lot of these coins, and I have to say that they are really lovely. When I was younger, I got a whole shoe carton of them that one of my relatives found while moving in to a new home, and me and my cousins just couldn’t stop looking at all the different designs. Truly a fun, really cheap area to collect (most notes are 50 cents here i. Germany)

I recently obtained a coin from the city of neuwied. It was a 10 pfennig kriegsgeld or war money issue. For WWI. Very cool history and a very similar story to the notgeld

Wow! They are in remarkably good condition for 100 years old.
I collect hyperinflation currency and have a 100 Trillion mark note from 1923. Amazing times.
