@@darthtiberius3716 Its because of a million different reasons, we spend more money funding our allies and NATO than we do in international aid to 3rd world countries. The simple fact is that the people in countries capable of funding space programs (the first world) face far too many practical day-to-day problems to care about space colonization, like poverty and medical debt. The only reason we had so many advances in the 50's and 60's is because it was internationally motivated by the cold war, it was more about measuring dicks than actual human curiosity in space. Once the competition was over, we stopped caring. However, the biggest barrier to space exploration is simply the division on our own world. Countries are far too worried about enriching themselves more than their neighbors to focus on space travel, we wont see true progression in space until globalization has finally run its course and we stop looking at ourselves as a collection of nations on the globe and start looking at ourselves as earthlings part of something much greater.

The best spots for initial colonies, the lunar poles, would have sunlight 24/7, except, perhaps, for relatively brief intervals of shade, lasting hours. The lack of any significant atmosphere would mean high powered solar energy reaching the collectors 24/7, as well, and covering the initial colonial buildings with a meter or two of lunar regolith would provide adequate protection, leaving the solar collectors exposed. This would be dramatically less expensive than treating lunar regolith with chemicals to create entire structures, requiring only simple bulldozer-type machines to move the regolith around.

You know you should discuss the effects on the anatomy of a child born on the moon or mars. Would they even be able to handle the gravity of Earth? That would be a great video.
I was thinking about this, I think the first few generations of people on the moon (if we let this happen) will suffer greatly from all kinds of issues with their body. And even if they evolve over an x amound of time to be ok with moon gravity, i think they won't be able to live on earth.

@fjf sjdnx Oh, I completely agree with you. My comment was directly speaking about the absurdity of US defense budget. In 1955, we already had a conceptual design for a rotating wheel shaped space station, and we decided to go in the complete opposite direction. It's very sad, we could have so much more than we have now if we went the right direction.

These types of videos always get me excited and make me get my hopes up. But then I remember I'll probably be dead by the time any Government bothers to do so. This is why I support Space X. The only company looking to actually make this possible in my life time with the BFR.

Good job in noticing that bro 👍 Huge respect really. Irrespective of what they earn from patreon, this act from them shows how much care for their viewers and quality of content
I don't get why people are so obsessed with videos being over the 10 mark. Why does it matter if they make it just past the 10 mark and make money to some people? People act like youtube channels can run on nothing and if they make any sort of money they're instantly considered shit channels.
Because there's a difference between making 10 minutes of content and padding to get there. Some people do it right, some pad a bit which is ok, but some make videos with ~2 minutes of content and pad all the way up to 10 minutes with filler and useless stuff, relying on techniques other than meaningful content to get their views, which in my opinion (and many others') is not ok.
Richard Rivera That is not what is being discussed at all. The "obsession" with the 10 minute mark is simply based on the premise that getting to 10min = more money. Therefore, when you see a video with exactely 10 minutes or a few seconds past 10 minutes it is easy to think that the video was stretched to reach that mark and the creator was just adding meaningless filling to it so he could make more money. This practise is not only expected from creators, it is also accepted. After all, as you said, the channels must make something out their content. What you don't seem to get is that seeing a video with 9:57 such is this one is truly beautiful because it shows that Kurzgesagt made the content for it to last exactely what it lasts and didn't bothered to add not even 3 seconds of filling stuff to make it "long enough for youtube to notice", and had they done it, even if only 3 more seconds of video, it would've ruined the quality of the video in the eyes of those who'd've thought that a video of exactely 10 minutes is a video with useless content added to it to make money. A video with 9:57 is Kurzgesagt nodding their heads to us and telling us that they said exactely what they wanted to say in this video, no more, no less, and it is all thanks to our support that they can do this.
*gets on spaceship* "Here's your pizza Sir" "Wait where's the money?" "Oh forgot it on earth" *both get back on spaceship* "Here it is" "Yeah so umm boss-" "What?" "May I have a raise" "Why" "I just delivered a pizza to a guy on the frigin moon" "Oh ok"
I imagine an old fashion diner, like the ones popular in the fifties. You sit in a booth, and a lady with purple hair and a metallic looking dress comes to take your order. You get a hamburger and fries. While waiting, you turn around, and look out the large, wall expansive window behind you. There, the blue marble is floating out in the distance, behind the horizon of lunar rocks and craters and a cluster of futuristic skyscrapers.
HW sounds great, you’re a good writer ... but Luna civilisation would be all in domes and tunnels underground to protect form the astroids. So maybe that is what you see, a romantic fiction through a high def screen sitting in a nice restaurant. Wondering if the people around you appreciate the theatre and artists’ craft up on the wall or if they are entranced by the illusion to a traditional form of engineering beauty .
Do you think we could develop a technology to change the building architecture so we could go from 50s American style diner to 60s 70s 80s and maybe even themes like Lord of the rings and star wars

NASA’s actually planning to return humans to the moon by 2024, so... we’ll get those moon bases soon...?
@@blankforever5399 2024 has already slipped to 2028 for Artemis. We're now running so far behind schedule of human expansion that wealthy individuals are just doing it themselves instead of waiting for the government.

Good job in noticing that bro 👍
Huge respect really.

"Hard to get government's interest in long term investments for the future of humanity". Very accurate statement.
Looks at American Congress, I must ask, who are they for, the Americans or people in Syria
This is one of the cases where monarchy was actually better than democracy
Scientists/engineers: We can have it built in 20 years!
King: Excellent! It will be a testament to how great a leader I am!
Presidents/Minsters: But won’t somebody else get the credit?
So well-researched and educational plus beautifully animated. Making complex topics accessible and engaging thats Kurzgesagt. Keep up the great work guys! I love this topic and made amars colonization video + will soon make a moon base one. Kurzgesagt inspires me!
at @5:57 there is a chinese character on the yellow cargo, 月 = moon :) nice touch kurzgesagt👍👏
天吉Mark
ye i noticed that too
"Made in space China" xD
Wait aren't you guys not allowed to use TH-cam ?
MrDieNubs A Chinese character is like a symbol, each symbol has a meaning. For example: 火 means fire and 箭 means arrow. A character can have more than one meanings. More than one characters can be combined to form a “word” which can have different meanings. For example: 火箭 can mean rocket or fire arrow, depending on context.
@@f8tal_156 cause chinese people don't exist outside of China right
I need this to happen in my lifetime. It _should_ but we all know how these things go. Can you imagine looking up at the crescent moon and seeing the shaded side partially illuminated by streetlamps? Like flying over a city at night, in a plane here on Earth.
That would be AWESOME!!!
I doubt that they would put it on the side of the moon that faces the earth.. astronomers would get so pissed
It's still possible. Orion mission is starting soon so that's a start.
I hope that saying "in our lifetime" will soon be meaningless, due to life extension technology :)
2049?
Person: Hey! I found petroleum on the moon
USA: *HEAVY BREATHING* FREEDOOOOOOOOMMMM!
We gotta go back
They are called "hydrocarbons" aka methane
Petroleum in the moon.
USA: the moon is mine, is mine, my precious
"Hey I found oil on the moon!"
"The moon needs to be liberated from the space terrorists"
Ussr: I WILL GET IT FIRST
Lmao imagine the first extra terrestrial kid getting roasted at school
Carpet salesman I can imagine a kid with very weak bones who can't go back to earth because his epigenetics adapted to a much lower gravity..
Won't be good but if he'll stay in the moon forever that's another thing
@Matthew Hohenbrink Actually gene modification is becoming increasingly cheaper, you could probably do some basic stuff with very little cash. By the next century I'm pretty sure that It will become affordable to litteraly everyone.
tbh if all the actual physical body problems are taken cared of maybe in the future that kid could fuckin roast everyone else by saying he was the first child to be born from another place away from earth
like how can that not be cool?
(well... atleast how can it not be cool if it werent for the biological problems)
Yeah, i mean, a mutt skinned kid from the moon, like wtf, he would be literally an alien.
imagine him having an elongated skull from the low gravity and his name is elon they will call him elong tusk
Imagine your self telling your school friends "I’m going to earth for holidays" 😂 would’ve been awesome 😂
Mikoyan-Gourevitch That’d be so funny 😂😂😂😂
I would be like ok I don’t even Talk to you why are u telling me I know u want attention and shit but it’s the earth are ancestors came to the Fucking moon to get away from earth and it’s horrible creations like Florida and Justin Bieber
whoa that's so weird to think about :O
when he gets to Earth he realizes he needs to be in a suit just to stand up because gravity is way stronger on Earth
Insta im_boredforever Because why not periods. USE THEM.
