One other setting to change is to set the auto power off temperature to "High" in the settings under Setup 9 "Power Setting Option". This raises the temperature limit at which the camera will automatically stop recording video. It's set to "Standard" by default, which limits record time, especially shooting outside. Changing to "High" will maximize your 4K runtime. (It won't run indefinitely, but it will run much longer.)
I’m so surprised how much this setting is not talked about. I although had a very strange experience where mine overheated pretty fresh out the box. Barely an hr in and I was just simply playing around with the settings. Placed it down to review a video like this I was watching and when I went back to it, I noticed it was off. After turning it back on it turned off a min later due to overheating. To me that didn’t seem normal so I’m getting a new one from Amazon to be safe. But this setting is not much talked about!
7:42 - since newest versions of lightroom support raw file formats from a7 iv aswell, it automatically imports only raw files directly from the card.. idk why or when would you choose each file secifically, skipping the jpg in the card...also if you need to do that, you can just type in search 'jpg' or 'arw' and it will only find you specific format that you just Ctrl+A select and import 🤷🏻♀️ 🙂
It's also worth noting that the "lowest quality" option for video recording, as it's referred to here -- HEVC 4K -- is a High Efficiency Video Codec file. It is essentially the video equivalent of the HEIC photo setting mentioned earlier in the video and can bring the same playback issues on non-optimized computers/systems that you can have when trying to view HEIC photos. It also requires the most work by a computer, if it can read the file, to "unpack" the mp4 file while you're editing your media, which can make your editing software and/or computer run slowly. I think Jerad's assessment is spot on: XAVC S 4K is a happy medium between the ultimate in file quality (and editing flexibility) and not having files that are outrageously huge. The bottom line in our work with both the A7iv and the FX3 has been that everything is usually on XAVC S, and sometimes on S-I depending on the situation. It's less about perceived visual quality and more about the intended use of the footage, since all three record options produce good visuals. Plenty of instructive content out there on when to shoot LongGOP vs All-Intra, if you're working in professional settings where you think that S-I might be useful.
YES! This is what I needed.. Thank you so much. Very Informative. I am planning to get the Sony A7 IV. I was wondering if there is a particular adapter I can use to attach Canon Lenses to the Sony. I have the following Canon Lenses: Canon 100-400 Canon 24-105 Canon EF 75-300mm Canon Macro28mm Samyang 2,8 100mm Macro Rokinon 2.8/14mm 7 Artisans 10mm 1:2.8 fisheye
I just got my first FF camera, the A7IV + kit lens yesterday (very exciting). I haven't turn it ON yet, battery is charging on the charger... so your advice came in right on time. Thank you Jerad. I'm appreciated your time. 👍
Thanks for this great video. And thanks for your wonderful spelling. I'm from France, my english is not perfect but I understood all what you said. Cheers !
Excelente informacion, Thanks. But tell me why the lens do not move automatically, like another DSLR Cameras? Why does the sound is not listen? I see the green small squares But I hear nothing. For taking photos inside of the museums which are the best settings?
It would be great to have the option of recording images to slot 1 and slot 2 alternating. This way, you have fast write speed and in case one card dies, it's somewhat likely you have a similar photo on the other card still.
Very nice video, I am going through various setup tutorials now that I have had my A7IV for a while, to see if I can better optimize it. I found a couple of jewels here, thanks!
I was thinking Sony is hard to use I bought it 2 days ago and dunno how to use just leave canon . But your video and the way how you teach is helping beginners like me . Thank you so much sir and respect from Kuwait 🌹🌹
Nice video. I guess that you have not used a green screen. However, you look well separated from the background. What was the focal length that you used for this? If I were to guess, it was 50mm at F2.0 as F1.4 would separate you even more from the background.
No thank u sir, just got the a7iv yesterday...being unable to change the iso using the wheel was something that threw me off when I got the a7iv coming from the a7iii but I was like damn,id have to get over it, but am glad you showed that theres a way to make it changeable by scrolling as opposed to pressing it thanks.
This is awesome & super informative! May I know which LUT are you using for S-Cinetone and if you change any of the settings for that picture profile? Thanks!
@@jeradcamera the 50 f/1.8 was the cheapest Sony FE lens. Today (Oct 2024) get the good cheap viltrox 40 f/2.5 for 1/3 the price of the Sony 40 f/2.5 G lens.
Interesting focus settings. Mark Galer would probably strongly disagree ;-) ISO is on auto all the time for me. No need to adjust it nowadays. But cheers for your tutorial, good settings overall.
If you problem to select raw and JPEG images then just sort them by type or group them by type. You will get raw and JPEG images seperately in your pc, no need to select each image
I’ve only used Sony cameras for years and always had two SD slots for all of my cameras so why have Sony introduced compact flash now, it’s a backwards step and makes no sense at all, if anyone could explain please, I’d be happy to hear any reasons?
Hi, thanks to share your interesting video. I have to buy a new camera, maybe the Sony A7 IV. . I will have to use Sony A7 IV enough often in Africa to shoot 4K documentaries in remote areas. Do you think the Sony A7 IV will be sturdy enough to withstand the heat, dust and humidity? Thank you
Hello. I just got my A7IV and I can not figure out how to have the EVF information show horizontal when shooting vertical mode like my R6. I would like the screen info to rotate in the EVF but it doesn't. Would you know the setting to make this happen. It silly to see the info sideways where shooting vertical.
Unfortunately, this is not a feature on Sony mirrorless cameras even after the new menu system update. When I first shot with the Nikon Z6, the rotation of the menu following the rotation of the camera was a game changer. This is something Sony should have done a long time ago.
@@jeradcamera thank you. I also have another dilemma. Seems the bracketing and the delay timer is in the same options. How can i continuous bracket with a delay timer. My Canon has this. This for me is huge. I let the camera settle with the timer and then I take 3 bracketed continuous photos. Since I need to re align these photos I cant have movement when i release the shutter on the first photo.
I realize this is an older video you have made, but I felt I must add one comment. If you read matters terms of service, anytime you post a picture on one of their platforms you are giving it to them to do with it as they wish.
You was talking about not having to click every other file when separating raw vs jpeg. But you are giving up a back up of your photos doing that. When you could just use list view, then use file type filters which will cause windows to show only the .arw files. Usually I believe it gets reset back to the normal way after you close the window so it won’t cause issues with not finding files later on as well. That way you can do a shift click on all .arw files.
Why do all these setup tips made by these channels cover the same obvious items that most Sony users that buy this type of camera already know. There are many more unusual items that hardly ever get covered. Not every Sony user is a wedding photographer ..
guys.. 9 out of 10 of us/you won't know the difference. unless you print posters for Times Square - there is no need for uncompressed. if you wanna show off, have lot of money for hard drives etc - shoot uncompressed, so you can talk about it. 90% of us - guys, just compress it, save space... i know the option is there for a reason, but it's not for shooting your wedding or portraits.. any closeup. it doesn't matter
weird video. we buy camera for $3200 because of its amazing quality in video and pictures and then u suggest us to use some compressed file types and not the best video quality video files. like what dude
I paid only the full list price of $2500, I do not RAW & just video in PP11. I've been shooting chromes & then lots of other films w/ SLR's (later also m-rangefinders) since 9th grade many decades ago. I stopped darkroom printing in Dec 1993 ; & I could do v.large C-prints w/o benefit of a color analyzer. I bet most people could not do that in their film days, yet everybody is suddenly so busy RAWing. Is it because they have computers ? I have 3 i-7 core laptops here & a new 7-Ultra Yoga from last week . (Just did the partitions 2 nights ago & still have to find time to finish a ok setup. Hate new machines as always.) I don't waste time on raw; just try get it right in camera w/ jpg. A meaningful content in a photo is more than mere raw. Better off spending more time shooting ! By the way, I'm not a real "photographer".
ir really makes everyone who has sense cringe when you declare that some color profile is better than the other. profiles are different, not better or worse. check you script twice next time.
Thanks!

Your video is perhaps the best available on TH-cam.... Very very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
By far the most helpful setup video for the A7iv that I’ve seen. The dual SD cards and picture profile info is appreciated!

Is there a way to save the focus area also when switching hybrid, or do you have to set a customized switch?

I have three lossless compressed raws. L-raw, M-raw, S-raw... Which one should I choose?
Depends on how big of an image you need.

This was helpful especially the SD card info
There’s an import setting in LrC that ignores the partnered jpeg, so just uploads the RAW file to library.
In Lightroom Classic yes, but not in Lightroom CC unfortunately.
I wondering if you use any Camp skin on the A7iv.. Do you know something about this Camos? By the way, I ll buy your course! Amazing video

I have in the past. For years I used one in all of my videos. I’m currently at about 55mm at f/4.
@@jeradcamera i was close enough 😅
The looks is natural compared to 35mm or 85mm. I liked 55mm and now is utilised less and less after i got 50mm F1.2
Hey great video! Just curious as to why you shoot JPG instead of RAW as a backup to the 2nd card.
Thanks. That was really useful.

Once the dual SD card slot is created, can it be undone?
Yes. It’s not like setting up a RAID on a computer. Just change the settings back.
Hi! do you have a coupon for your course? I'm interested, greetings from Mexico!

Useful stuff...getting to separate recording on the two card slots was driving me nuts!
Hi...Which budget Prime lens is most suitable for Sony A7IV???
It depends on the focal length you want. I would get a 35mm or 50mm as my first prime lens.

Did you leave your auto power off temp at standard?
I have been testing in standard so far with no issues but have not recorded for longer than 15 minutes.
Does this camera use two micro SD cards?
Not micro SD cards but regular SD cards yes.
