    Suggestions from a local:
    Morning city hike- Lower Macleay Trail or hike up to Council Crest from downtown for a longer hike
    Garden- the Japanese garden is beautiful, but expensive. If you visit in the summer, the Rose garden is free and lovely.
    Coffee- Fehrenbacher Hof in Goose Hollow if you want an old school Portland experience; Deadstock Coffee for something more contemporary
    If you prefer tea, I love Tea Chai Té on NW 23rd, but it is not handicap accessible FYI
    Bookstores other than Powell’s if that would be too overwhelming- Daedalus Books in NW or Mother Foucault’s in SE
    Lastly, if you have access to a car & love a unique old school diner, Skyline Diner is a favorite. For something a bit nicer, Ox or Tusk are both great choices (and both on the East Side).

    If you're at Screen Door or Pine State I'd suggest following it up with a walk or bike ride, maybe along the waterfront or just through the neighborhoods near Hawthorne. Very peaceful, and everyone is so conscientious about taking care of their gardens! Also keeps you from falling over and going into a Chicken and Waffles food coma

    Love this, I just got back from Portland today, I didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a magical city, surrounded by beautiful nature, amazing hikes, there is even a volcano that once you reach the top they have a piano overlooking the city, that you can play. Portland is a quiet, calm, safe and peaceful city; everyone was welcoming, friendly and respectful and everyone seemed peaceful. It’s a clean city and I felt completely safe to walk my friend’s dog, at 2am, in his neighborhood. I spent 4 days there and I was even invited to join board game nights and softball games. I loved it so much that I’m even thinking about moving there after graduation 😍 Thank you Portland for giving me such a warm welcome!

      Did you find there were a lot of homeless people?

    • @grigql
      @grigql ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bellawarburton8529 I did not. My friend, who just moved there, made the itinerary. We hiked, walked around downtown, even walked his dog at 3am a couple of times. I saw probably 5 homeless tents all together, One tent, per park, but not every park had them. I only saw 1 homeless man coming out of a tent, he greeted us (as my friend's dog was being playful) and proceeded to clean his tent and brush his teeth. I was shocked I didn't see any more homeless people. I've seen way more homeless people in Dallas than what I saw in Portland.

    Im glad i found this video, I can recognize some of the spots from when I went to Portland a few years ago. I drove there from Northern California, took like ten hours to get there, but I don't think Ive ever been as happy as I was when I got to the bridges on I5 entering the city.
    Since I literally don't care about my own well-being, i went for a hike in Forest park at night (definitely got lost for a bit), i got some really good photos from a big red drawbridge thats near downtown too. This video makes me want to go again lol

    I had to look at the date you shot this because...this was what Portland used to be...and, hopefully, would be again one day!! You did a great video, though!! It reminded me of when I first moved here years ago. I was amazed at how well you did not showing how downtown really looks right now. The reason it is so quiet... that would be due to the gun violence, mental illness, drug addiction and other issues that brings homelessness (like rent increases, etc). They are trying to clean it up but it will take awhile. It is definitely similar to San Francisco and Oakland's homeless situation.

    • @MythicShot
      @MythicShot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went there last month and while I didn't feel especially unsafe the city is full of homeless camps, and I mean full. They are all over the city centre and lots of people out of it on drugs talking to themselves. It's worse than any place I've ever seen and I've been around. .

    • @ohwellwhateverr
      @ohwellwhateverr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t go there solo, especially if you’re female. Kidnappings and sexual assaults are rife, and human trafficking of minors is done out in the open. The police have their hands tied because of local government policies. The place is a shithole.

    Wow you are an impressive videographer/editor! I’ve worked in Portland my whole life and this video makes Portland look like a quite cute little city which is far from the truth. Portland does have some amazing food and good scenery. Unfortunately it has an extreme homeless issue and the city is in complete disrepair. The fact that you were able to hide that completely is actually pretty remarkable. There is a tent (or 12) on every corner. Trash, needles, and human feces litter the side streets. The most memorable part of Portland is the sweet smell of crack smoke mixed with the cool morning breeze. And the public transportation is mostly just a means of evenly distributing homeless camps and drug dealers throughout the city. Don’t get me wrong Portland definitely has its beauty but it also has far to many beasts to completely ignore. I can’t believe you spent 3 days here, visited all those places, and honestly didn’t see a least a little of the dirty truths of Portland. Great video though, made me wanna go back to a few of the places you went. I do my best to stay away from the city most weekends but there are definitely good restaurants that shouldn’t be forgotten about!

While in coffee shop watched owner physically stop shoplifters. Tents and people begging for money on every block, lots of graffiti, trash and boarded businesses. You edited these out. Washington Park and the Japanese Garden was amazing, plus the northwest district.
