I’ve had trouble clarifying the skewer and the X-ray from each other, despite several mentions on tactics lesson. I have used them both, but it’s more difficult to use a tactic you can’t fully define, and this brief video has definitely helped illuminate its application in the game. Thanks Andras.

I think Daniel Naroditsky and a few others use the term differently. For Danya it seems to mean any alignment between a friendly piece and an enemy piece--like a discovered attack waiting to be discovered, or simply two (usually heavy) pieces sharing a file with other pieces/pawns in the way. Nonetheless, this kind of X-ray is a very useful motif that can be very hard to see. Thanks for a great video--those were some mindblowing mates!

I agree with you, but I think Danya is definitely in the minority here. Andras' definition is the generally accepted usage of x-ray

Yes, that's exactly what I refer to as the "commonly misused way to use the name". It sounds cool, but in reality, it is inaccurate ( I did not want to say "wrong").

Very nice tactical ideas throughout the video. I liked the queen sac that led to the checkmate with the bishop and knight

4:08: I was wondering why Rf8+ doesn't work right away. The aswer is that the queen on c5 x-rays the f8 square!

    Great Stuff...
Maybe a series on different motifs and complexity levels graduating to multiple motifs in a single game...
    As always enjoyed the video...

It’s cool but I definitely need to work on seeing it. Big brain tactics there

My favorite variation of the Spanish as white was the Qe2 Spanish. After 0-0 white brings the king’s rook to d1 to spy the black queen. The opening is loaded with traps based on center pawn play. Often known as the Worall or English attack. Posted for the algorithm.

Hi coach Andras! What is your opinion on the trompowsky attack? Is it a valid sharp opening or just a lemon variation?

Hey Andras, I'm working through your chessable courses, e4 for white and e5 for black ,really enjoy them but my opponents are constantly playing d4 and I'm a bit lost! When is your d4 for black coming?

In the second example, promoting to a queen is excessive. Promoting to a rook is much nicer!
