I’m looking to do the same thing and I just thought of this… if you cut a hole in a template board slightly larger than the base plate, attach it to the piece your cutting and router around the inside of the hole it should router out a hole that has a radius of the difference of the radius of the template and the baseplate.
Very simple to make, thank you. However, this can be used only for cutting circles larger than the diameter of the base plate, right? Any suggestions on cutting smaller circles?
im looking for a solution to cut circles smaller than the diameter of the base plate...... i need them cleaner than a hole saw

Why didn't you mention the reason you didn't cut all the way through? Probably because you experience it and ended bad!!
