  • This is a brief introduction to awards for registered adult leaders (or "Scouters") in the Boy Scouts of America. We will be covering individual scouter awards in future videos. This is an overview with helpful information for where "knot patches" should be on the adult uniform.

I have a couple rows at this point as Cubmaster. One thing I keep in mind and express to other leaders and kids. It's not as important to you as a Scouter (other than confirmation that you're doing the minimum of the volunteer position), but showing the kids that goal setting and completing those goals is just as important as an adult. You do so because you care about them. Remember, we are modeling behavior as much encouraging their growth

I use awards like this meet goals and add to the program. Kids come first for sure, but the requirements of the awards do add to the experience by helping leaders accomplish things that are good for them in training and the troop/pack's organization.

      How many is too many?

That's a shame. Recognition is important. Even if you resemble a Mexican general 😂. Just remind other scouters that even if they don't wear the knots, they should try and fullfill requirements as an indication that they are doing more than the bare minimum. The kids deserve at least that.
