Rod and Gaby's story (briefly) -- they met in their teens playing in a metal band in Mexico City. They got bored with metal and moved to a coastal resort town in Mexico where they made a living playing acoustic folks songs in hotels and bars and began developing their unique style with Gaby playing percussive guitar. On a whim, they moved to Dublin, Ireland, where they became quite famous busking on Grafton St. The rest is history -- they released their first album in 2004 and it became an international success and they've been going strong ever since.

"developing their unique style with Gaby playing percussive guitar."
Its Rumba... She uses 2 techniques most of the time Abanico aka the fan which is where you use index and thumb to get that fast strumming and ventilador aka ventilator its where you hit a guitar do a triplet and hit a guitar again so its hit, up, down, up, hit, up, down, up etc...
Rumba Flamenca players go even crazier on their guitar such as Gipsy Kings who use double golpe rumba etc...
Gabriela is dope and one of my favorite rhythm guitarists out there and the reason why I started playing Rumba however her percussive style is not unique :)

Hi Jamel! Can't believe you did R&G. Nobody's done them and I follow everybody. These two have been doing this a long time, and the beauty of what they do is it's all acoustic. There's no tube fuzz to obscure any lack of chops. Rodrigo does the melody and Gabriela is a one-person percussion section. When you reach a certain level, you just add the self-percussion, because you CAN. They are so good at rhythmically interesting pieces. Just beautiful.

In the vein of "Similar but completely different," you should check out the Yoshida Brothers! They're a modern take on a classic Japanese instrument, the shamisen (similar to a banjo), often with a very rock/bluegrass sound. Their studio tracks are fully-mixed songs with synths and rhythm sections, and their live performances are often a lot like this, the two of them just rocking out.
Highly recommend "Overland Blues" or "Morricone" (yes, like Ennio Morricone) for a real east-meets-west feel that I think you'd vibe with.

Alright , first off , they are not married. They did date for awhile. Second , they do not play flamenco music. They have said it them selves. Believe it or not they come from metal backgrounds so their sound is driven by heavy groove. Most people say flamenco because they don't what else to call it. Good news is either do Rod & Gab !

I read that they have cut down on their live shows as Gabriella has wrist issues due to how you just saw her beating the crap out of her guitar as she plays.

One of my favorites is Hanuman which has a great video they made for it. They are amazingly talented - Rod is leads and melody, Gab is percussion and rhythm. For another amazing finger-style guitarist, please check out Phil Keaggy - he has a long history in Christian music, but he does a lot of instrumental jazz/new age stuff and he is an absolutely brilliant guitarist.
