Hybrid Software/Hardware Euclidean Sequencer with HY-RPE2 and Midi Fighter Twister

  • I love the VSTs from HY-Plugins (hy-plugins.com/), especially the sequencers. A while back I started mapping the Euclidean sequencer from HY-MPE2 to my Push 2 in order to get hands-on control. Then when I discovered the Midi Fighter Twister (store.djtechtools.com/product..., I knew that these two tools were destined to work together.
    Here I harness the Twister to provide live hands-on control of the sequencer, turning it into a playable instrument. I haven't been using it that long yet, and I'm looking forward to exploring it in more depth and producing some music with it.
    My focus is primarily on Berlin-school inspired, sequencer driven ambient music. In the past I focused more on abstract beatless ambient, so I'm excited about this new direction.

      @synchysis-synth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@synthseeker Exactly. A lot like what you do with your sequences of different lengths. And I love that sound, how there's definitely repetition, but it moves around and flows. What I like about this, again, is the ability to really play it in real time and arrange it as you go.

    • @synchysis-synth

      Well, not as much improv as you'd think. For technical reasons this was the 3rd or 4th go around. So I definitely got some rehearsal in. (Plus, I do teach public speaking, so I better be able to do this....)

      I think they're really underrated. I think the interfaces can be a bit complex and so they seem intimidating. But they have some amazingly rich features. They can also be a bit pricey. May want to wait for a sale/discount.

    This might be something perfect for me. I have been wanting to have a way to control a sequencer with hardware. I am wondering if it would work with a regular step sequencer from HY-Plugins like the HY-Step32?

    I see you are using ableton, do you have to configure it for the first time. I mean exposing the parameters you want to control to ableton and then midi assign to Midi Fighter. Or is it like automap in novation, where you kinda have maps for most vsts and you part from there.

    • @synchysis-synth
      @synchysis-synth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did configure it myself originally. I'm working on some other methods of mapping it. I'm exploring using Control Surface Studio to build a mapping. But then I've also been working with Soundmanufacture's Instant Twister (www.soundmanufacture.net/devices/instant-twister).
      I also have created some HY-RPE2 presets that have it set up in ways that I like. I can create presets where I set up the default key/scale, step divisions of the various lanes, as well as how they generate notes (single notes, random range, sequence, etc.).
      It's a rig that takes a while to set up at first, but then I find it allows me to compose/create live with it in a way that is satisfying.
