- With passenger demand expected to soar at the Toronto Pearson International Airport in the coming years, the GTAA has begun a decade-long infrastructure renewal and expansion program. Nick Westoll has more.
My right ear enjoyed this video
Thought it was just me!
Replace or modernize ageing Terminal 3. I dislike flying from it.
yes
terminal 3 parking lot looked like it was about to collapse from the inside lol
Stop flying
Terminal 1 is miles better than Terminal 3 at the moment. Fully agree
The plan through to 2037 is to double the capacity of terminal 1. Due to space constraints, expanding terminal 3 would be difficult. Hopefully, Terminal 1 would become a shared terminal like terminal 3.
I'm 64. Toronto Pearson has been under expansion/construction almost every year I've been alive.
They built terminal 1, then 2, then 3, then tore 1 down. Built a new terminal. Then tore 2 down.
In between all of this they've changed the roadway numerous times. They've built, tore down and rebuilt numerous parking garages. This must be the most expensive airport in the world.
Exactly!
@@mmcer Actually, Pearson charges the highest landing fees in North America. The travel taxes that Canadians have to pay on top of the initial airline fees are so high that sometimes they are higher than the actual flight costs a well. Bad state of affairs.
Most airports are constantly expanding. It’s a sign of booming economy
@@Plane_beaveryyz In most countries yes. Not in Canada. There have been two attempts to build an international airport in Pickering. Both failed due to provincial and Federal bickering. In 1972 the federal government expropriated farmland and booted out the land owners. The Province refused to build roads in order to get the airport cancelled so Pearson slugged along inefficiently while all those farms were seized for nothing.
There is endless embattlement over the airport on Toronto island whether to build a bridge to the airport and whether to allow jets. A bridge was decided, contracts were developed and as soon as the new mayor was elected he cancelled the project and the contractor sued the city and won. So we spent countless millions and got no bridge. City council is once again discussing a bridge. We'll finally have one just in time to own flying cars.
Why would you build 3 airport terminals, tear down two of them and build a forth all in one lifetime. How can an airport terminal be built to obsolescence barely before it's completed? Nothing gets done in Canada because of the bureaucracy.
Well Terminal 1 and 2 were supposed to be temporary terminals until the real airport was supposed to be built in Pickering. That land is still there. Then the government changed their mind and made Pearson permanent which led to demolishing T1 and T2 to make the larger new T1.
Only Pearson has like three stalls for each restroom. In the US each restroom has like 20+ stalls and urinals. Braindead designers made Pearson pathetic.
How about we renovate your Audio Equipment, City News?
One of the most expensive airports in the world, but lacks charm and services of many airports. It like people who run it have blinders on.
Why don't extend the runway at Billy Bishop's let jets fly in and out? Why don't build Pickering Airport as 2nd international airport? Comparable city like Sydney's 2nd international airport construction is way ahead. Pierre Poilievre is right, there are too many gate keepers like Trudeau in this country
Get ready Canadians - we are about to get shafted with more charges. I’ve switched to Buffalo. Cheaper parking and by going thru to New York, I have a greater choice of flights at less cost. The GTAA is not for profit!? So where are all the fees and taxes going?
to there pocket
YYZ fees are already highest in the world. Now they go higher
Too many flights are routed through Toronto. If Transport Canada invested more funds into other Airports the requirement to expand TO Airport wouldn't be so much.
Your idea is good but Transport Canada is a regulator and has zero control over funds.
Why wasnt this done during covid when passenger load was down?
Nobody was working during covid.
@@anthonymorris5084 construction was still operating during covid. It was seen as an essential service. La guardia airport managed to get its entire renovations done during covid simply cuz passenger load was down. If gtaa or the govt was too incompetent, say so.
@@mattl4802 agreed.
@@mattl4802companies paid much higher rates for the use of those workers during the time
A fantastic question, partial answer? Our politicians were asleep.
Still waiting for that Pickering airport that I he government said we were going to get years ago
this was announced in the late 90's; perhaps finish Terminal 1 in the process?
You are talking about the runways? They built them.
There was supposed to be a 6th run way and an expansion connecting terminal 1 and 3 into 1
@@AtharAfzalyes, add that to the long list of “plans” from years ago.
Hopefully they will also hire some more competent workers while they’re at it. So many rude entitled power tripping jackholes working there now.
Another life time long project, guess it will be completed in 2074?
We’ll be using the same airport for the next 500 years
Wow so efficient decade to expansion one airport. In some countries three airports can be build in one decade.
Why is the thumbnail not a Canadian flag? This is Canada.
I've been hearing this ever since the late 90s about the upgrades that they seem to be extraordinarily slow mired in cost overruns. Doubt this will happen. News is only when it happens but when planning!
Pearson needs to rebuild terminal 2 since they want to add 10 new airlines coming to YYZ.
Canada is so behind its actually insane 😂
What people want is Trudeau gone !!
Why not rebuild terminal 2, then rebuild terminal 3, then terminal 1?
Don't forget Terminal 3!
Worst airport on earth
Agreed 👍 even third world countries have better airports
Literally 3rd world countries are more organized than lazy pearson
Why, who will be able to afford to fly
Western World must come out from 60,70s if they want to stay relevant in this world.
Canada should be ashamed,. Turkey has one of the nice airports.
I think you meant century long?
I wonder how much people working at gtaa makes
The CEO of GTAA has raked in $2M+ annual salary since 2021.
Who is this lame reporter? 😂
Why is there a pride flag in the thumbnail of this video?
The thumbnail shows you just landed in a whyte country
Please remove that pride flag
Is there more room for transvestite?
your brain has been melted
@@12evan89 I am offended.
Hopefully is not GTAA anymore. Not "Go To Another Airport" anymore. 😅😅😅
