Bob Diepold that will always be the most stupid stunt the tony awards will have ever done. They acted like children when they awarded it to kinky boots.
I imagine seeing it in London helped you understand what was bein said . I saw it on tour in San Francisco and the British accents (imo) seemed more forced here in the states.
Greenleaf Productions thanks for your reply but i'm not living in the US. but i do hope in the future when i get to visit my sister there, it'll be back on broadway, or at least on tour. Congrats to the whole team! I love this musical so much.
I saw this musical about 6 years ago. I’m glad it was the first musical I ever saw and I got to go with my grandma who recently passed away. It’s a lovely memory of mine
What a sunning performance! As an actor myself, I know the sad, heartbreaking feeling of the final curtain call. Good job young actors. And great footage.
It's a big show to produce so it can't play in every market, but it will be around. Our same team is opening a new musical this spring on Broadway. Groundhog Day. We think it's pretty special.
You can always catch the national tour. When that's done, local stage companies will start producing it too. In some cases, I'm glad to see shows follow a natural progression. After a few years, the theatre should be made available to another production (to keep it fresh), and the show should then go on the road for a year or two. Once that is done, local rights should be released and community and professional regional theatres should have a shot at it. Ultimately, this gives the show the widest possible audience. As great as Broadway and West End are, only a very small fraction of people who want to see the show can ever make it there.
Love this so much. I’m playing the percussion for Matilda and it’s so fun (but a lot of counting!) my only complaint is I can’t actually see the show, but thanks to videos like these I can sort of. I do wish they brought the band out so we could see them though
This musical is the best ever. Sad to see that they already closed on Broadway. I hope someday that they will bring back again this musical on Broadway.
I just got done watching the looks not books series... its so amazing that they invited lesli back for the last 4 to 5 months. I've never been on a long running show liek this, but 2 years ago I was in an amazing show with an amazing cast, and I am still crying missing the cast. REVIVAL NOW PLEASE!!!
Musical Girl sort of. the reason why shows close on Broadway has everything to do with venue owners, and while most of the time, the show's performance is the big decider, other times they're offered more money for their venue. I think it might have had something to do with that.
@@GreenleafPro yep, it's opening back in September of this year until February of next year hopefully I go and see it there sometime #bringbackmatildabroadway
So sad! I've only seen Matilda in Toronto and tomorrow's the last performance, hopefully I'll be able to catch in again when they do a revival, and I certainly can't wait for the film!
Ending that musical with Bows and taking a bow at the curtain call and hearing a big applause and then you pat and clap for the kids did a good job performing the musical.
The awards attention, plus the favorable reviews from New York critics, helped “Matilda” become a regular member of the millionaires’ club at the Broadway box office, consistently topping $1 million in gross sales per week for most of its first year on the boards. After the show recouped its $16 million capitalization costs in 2014, box office has gradually slowed, although the title frequently sees its numbers spike in high-tourism weeks. The show’s weekly grosses have fluctuated considerably over time; last week, it grossed $807,649 and played to 86 percent capacity audiences, but it has had many weeks over $1 million, and many under $600,000. Broadway is quite competitive right now, with several shows appealing to families, and another musical adapted from a Roald Dahl book, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” is planning to open on Broadway in the spring of 2017.
If you look very closely (between 2:06- 2:08) you can actually see the actress playing Matilda going from the Matilda pose to the regular standing position, just before the spotlight comes back up. You normally wouldn't see this in a regular performance, but because there were so many phones filming the event, this was an exception. Please reply to this comment if you find it interesting.
That's weird I have not really watched this since 2018 or 2019 I didn't even know if it was the final performance of matilda so I wasn't sad anyways, I also didn't know that Willow McCarthy was just standing there after her matilda pose but thanks I will remember that!
It had to close just as I got tall enough to play matilda!Lol.I saw the show in new York in December and I couldn't believe how amazing it was and that it was closing so soon!
Tori NEVER grew out of Matilda. That’s why she replaced one girl from the 2015 tour. She was in the Broadway cast in 2013 or 2014 originally. And made the final cast of Broadway AGAIN! Wow she stayed short a long time.
Recently watched a bootleg of the show with Sophia gennusa. This show is beautiful. It makes you laugh and cry. Shame it closed. #bringbackmatildabroadway
Doing the jr version at school soon. I’m playing Rudolpho! Sadly school said that we can’t do it on scooters. But still my favourite song in the whole show! I remember seeing this a few years ago and thinking I wish I could do that. Now I can! This is such a great show!
