- The Junkies discuss the recent story about minority owner Mitchell Rales reportedly saying that he is not a fan of the name Commanders and put some money down on whether they think the franchise will have a new name by Week 1 of the 2027 Season.

I never bought anything with the stupid Football Team name on it and won't buy anything with Commanders on it until they announce whether the name is permanent or if they're changing it once again.
WFT and Commanders will always be associated to the disastrous Dan Snyder era. No one wants to wear anything connected to that. Wait for the rebrand.
I'm convinced this ownership group is changing the nickname sooner rather than later. The top investors are lifelong Redskins fans and hate the rebrand as much as the vast majority of what's left of the fanbase. By bringing back the gold pants they are acknowledging the need to embrace the team's history as one of the legacy franchises of the league.
If they're not going to bring back the redskins name then they should at least bring back the Native logo and jersey

Why would anyone buy Commanders merchandise if it's a no-brainer that the name will change. I know I won't.
I agree and can't understand why anyone is buying it. Once the name changes, Commanders merchandise will be solely remembered and associated with the disastrous Dan Snyder era. The worst times in the history of this franchise. Who would want to be seen wearing that?
Fred Smoot said it best: Just call them the Burgundy and Gold. We can keep some of our identity without offending anyone and without adopting a new mascot.

What about the "Washington Hogs"? It's new and it harkens back to the glory years of the franchise. The 70's burgundy and mustard uniforms, with the new "W"helmets. Some of the old , sprinkled in some of the new...why not? Our franchise will be named after the most popular, dominant and most efficienct cast of offensive lineman ever assembled in NFL history. That would be so cool.
The Hogs were the offensive lines of the 80's thru early 90's. They never had anything to do with "the team" There's only one name the older fans will eventually all accept which is "The Burgundy & Gold" It's been our unofficial nickname for 70 freakin years. We keep all our history, tradition and trophy legitimacy. Be the most unique name in the NFL. In the same tradition as "The Crimson Tide" "The Fighting Irish" etc. No brainer.

Winning doesn't matter if no one is buying the gear. These guys have completely lost their minds as to why it matters so much to the brass besides just disliking the name. It's a massive renue stream. Duh
I'm betting they will change their name after their last game at Fed-Ex and when the new stadium is about to open after construction is done.

Red Wolves was the absolute best option and the choice the majority of fans wanted. If they could get the rights to use it from ASU they'd sell a ton of merchandise.

The majority of the fans hate the name and they know if they don't buy the merchandise, they will get a quality rebrand and a name they like. Commanders days are numbered. Doesn't matter how many games they win, most fans and even the owners don't want to be Commanders fans. It will take as long as a typical rebrand takes which is about two years or so, maybe a bit longer if they have to negotiate naming rights but it'll happen.
I have NEVER liked the new name! I don't have anything with the new name maybe just the W!
If they want fans to buy in they have to do 1 of 2 things either win and win big and often with this terrible name or change it to what the majority of fans actually want making your customers angry is a horrible business strategy though I’ll never buy accept anything free that’s commanders brand or go to any games (unless they win) and there’s plenty of fans out here that are doing the same
They could win a ton of games and multiple SB's and I still wouldn't buy the merchandise or support this awful name. I'll root for the team but I'll never support the Commanders brand. Snyder gave us a name as lame as he was and we deserve better.

We will never change the name! Why don’t y’all get that. Move on!! Jeezus. Just y’all care.. (y’all who keep talking about it). No one else cares about the name. Just the wins. Doors not open. The name won’t change for another 45 years. Focus on ballplay guys. Focus on the team. Season needs to go ahead and start so this crap can be behind us.
That's not what the polls are saying. All of the surveys have a vast majority of people wanting the name changed. Even the owners have said they don't like it or will not commit and say they're staying with the current name. Merchandise sales have tanked, I believe I saw somewhere they had dropped like 80% after the initial rebrand. No one wants merch or a brand that's associated with Snyder and the worst era of this franchise. A rebrand is most likely going to happen, we just have to put up with the complaining until it does.

But still you can’t have selective hearing. They are focused on making the name commanders mean something. No name is good until it means something.
