This is great, I really enjoyed both performances. Someone needs to blend the two together, the refined pipes and drums with the deep primal rhythm and song.
The rapid succession of notes with empathic draws were probably supposed to boost morale of those around them and lower those hearing its melodious tones drift towards them as shot and steel rang to see a comrade die as a sad song played or one that induced panic by fast rpms and inf combined advances that can cause morale shocks to defenders or attackers I imagine but yeah if we talking musicians vs Maori warriors doing Haka come on that’s not even a comparison lol they are warriors I’m sure highland or cold stream pipers could still wield Sabre’s though in real military as well
Its not about fear, its about drowning the battlefield in sound so our enemies couldn't coordinate. The Scots were not very well led and the pipes brought our enemies down to our level in that regard. Also they sound a hell of a lot different when echoing off of the highlands.
Actually, in War, the Bagpipes were not meant to Scare, they were meant to ENCOURAGE! And when the Bagpipes are played the opposition knew that the British were not Scared and they were coming, they were full of the courage. That's the meaning of the Bagpipes in War. But yes, the Haka is meant to Scare the opposition. Big difference!
Hahaha! What the hell was that? Though I love my Scottish heritedge, the fat, half naked guys rock. Whatever it was they were singing, it sounded kind of Klingonish. lol
It's called the haka, The haka is a type of ancient Māori war dance traditionally used on the battlefield, as well as when groups came together in peace. Hakaare a fierce display of a tribe's pride, strength and unity. Actions include violent foot-stamping, tongue protrusions and rhythmic body slapping to accompany a loud chant.
The Blackwatch, the British Regiment that plays the Bagpipes is one of the most feared regiments in war history. It is not the pipes that are scary! It is what follows them.
In a war situation it would go something like this: In response to Bagpipes: "Oh shit the Bagpipes, the British are coming down the hill, get your rifles, prepare for war" In response to the Haka: "should we wait til they finish their dance before we shoot them, or can we shoot them now while they have their tongues out and their spears are on the floor?"
+kraw1989 The Blackwatch will and still are some of the most feared me in History, and back when Napoleon was fighting the Brits, even his elite Old Guard trembled to the sound of Bagpipes from Highland Regiments.
goedendag in ya face That’s not a valid reason as there’s no proof or material to sustain your argument. Something valid could be the Spanish Tercios (Old Tercios of Naples for example) singlehanded the entire European continent for 150 years. Now that’s a forced to be reckoned and not the Black Watch. Less marketing, more sticking to the facts!
Your a jackass, read a real book. The Hakka terrified “captain cook” you are a puppet of colonial bullshit. I’m Scottish and Cree native, narrow minded twats like you is exactly what’s wrong with the world. I hope the wifi gets cut off in the RV park you live in.
They are both intimidating in their own ways in my opinion

HAKA* is how it is spelt. Definitely more intimidating than the bagpipes. Bagpipes don't scare anyone. They did sound good though
Them pipes are normally accompanied by shot and steel

HAKA is so old hat....Pipes Rule Timless in their appeal.
I love them both :)
Joe Trimble shut up
there are much more intimidating tunes than Scotland the brave...

The Pipe and Drum Corp is much more intimidating, because what historically follows the appearance of such a group :D
Canundrum Sixnine nothing happened. Stop watching Braveheart

Awesome
Maori used intimidate, it was very effective
I like both competitor teams
Are the kilts Anderson?
That's the McBeth Tartan :)
Scotland the Brave!
Grattata
This has a criminally low view count
that's the dance they do when told no more chicken nuggets.
But we have guns they just have spears
you have pipes, not guns
@@mischievousone3421 in war the guns always followed the pipes.
@@drrd4127 what do the pipes follow
Bagpipes FTW! Other guys are just slapping themselves and grunting, look's like the lineup at a local all you can eat.
