The car starts rolling and it's running down a steep hill.

the firefighter actually tried to get inside the burning car and try to stop it,but it had gained too much momentum. Hats off to the man for the brilliant try though.

I think he did not try to get inside (that would be insane) but tried to turn the steering wheel.

I thought he was trying to turn the wheel and looking for the handbrake myself.
I think it is more likely he was feeling for a corpse, or perhaps turn the wheel towards the barrier, no way a firefighter would reach into a burning car for a handbrake, they would simply place chocks for the wheels
This is the most exciting thing to ever happen in Norway. The flaming car is going to be on the next 1000 kroner bill.
As a former firefighter of 8-years I can attest that stranger things happen fairly often.

Years ago we flipped a car back onto it's wheels after a collision on the freeway. It took off like a shot...down the road, down the embankment, and across the service road and into a field. Nobody was hurt, and it wasn't on fire, but our faces were about as red as the fire engine!!! We were some very embarrassed boys! Keep safe out there!

Same here, figured it would be some sort of burning magnesium getting douced in water related excitement!
Seems like chocking the wheels would be a good standard operating procedure when dealing with a vehicle fire (using chocks at the end of a pole if necessary for safety distance). Though I wouldn't have thought about that before seeing this video.
Always expect the unexpected. Nice recovery firefighters.

Lars-Petter Hellevik I find the response to be rather llackadaisical actually. No one bothers to run after the car. I would have imagined that to be an OH SHIT emergency situation but it's handled like it doesn't matter at all.

There are several youtube videos that show vehicle fires that turn into rolling fires. I'm sure that the future fire fighting procedures will include wheel chocks as standard operating procedure. Their long poles can be used to place the chocks.
All these people saying the parking brake would have prevented it from moving need to think about the fact that those lines can melt also. The driver should have put the car in park or in gear.

This was approached with 2 mistakes. 1) Even if that car had never started to coast, the presence of woodlands behind it could have been the start of a forest fire, from the effects of hosing the car from the side the fire truck was on. also, since this was notable unlevel ground, for the fire truck or the firefighters to get a vantage point on the opposite side big enough to be able to deploy fire hoses was likely impossible
My idea? Call a water bomber to bomb it, preferably a bit to the backside of the centrerline of the flaming vehicle,, so tending to push the flames towards the road, and away from the woodland and less accessbile area. Then the fire truck would be in a better position to finish the fight.

I suspect the fire burned through the brake hydraulic lines etc and the auto went down the hill. In most of the USA there are fire hydrants in neighborhoods for firefighters to utilize rather than limited amount of vehicle contained water with small diameter hoses that cannot put large quantities of water on a fire to speedily extinguish the flames.

I wouldn’t say it was the firefighters fault, I’d say the fire fighter who tried to stop the car after it started rolling down the hill was a brave guy, to try and enter a vehicle on fire to prevent it rolling away.. it was just a freak accident that would have happened as the car was stopped on a steep hill.. lucky there was a crash barrier at the bottom of the hill or it could have been a lot worse for any neighbours or other property below that could have made the vehicle fire 100x worse.

This could have ended up much worse. Imagine if the road was not straight enough and there was a house in the course of the car? Could have ended up with some property damage or even worse: some human injury.

Of course they all looked similar in the 90s. What was the make and model of that W124 of yours? I think i read somewhere in the comments that this W202 has a molotov thrown in it. Any car can burst into flames and the W202 is not an E-class, so it is not a facelifted W124.
