Murano glass has been a famous product of the Venetian island of Murano for centuries. Located off the shore of Venice, Italy, Murano was a commercial port as far back as the 7th century. By the 10th century it had become a well-known city of trade. Today Murano remains a destination for tourists and art and jewellery lovers alike.
The process of making Murano glass is rather complex. Most Murano glass art is made using the lampworking technique. The glass is made from silica which becomes liquid at high temperatures. As the glass passes from a liquid to a solid state, there is an interval when the glass is soft before it hardens completely. This is when the glass-master can shape the material.
This guy just says "Let there be horse" and THEN THERE'S HORSE.
Walks away like he didn't just create the coolest thing ever!!!
this is how I imagine some greek god creating life
My mom went to Murano and had one of these glass horses made. While the guy was making the horse he asked her if she wanted a boy or a girl. Being perpetually single and constantly vocal about it, my mom says "Boy!"... Long story short, we've had bright blue horse with a raging hard-on sitting on a shelf for over twenty years.
Wow, such an artist!
Incredible!
The video is awesome - but seeing it live is still better ;-)
During my first visit in Murano I had the chance to watch the creation of such a glass horse. After watching this I just had to have such a thing. I bought one of those glass horses (blue glass) for about 25€ (was in Dezember 2014).
That's how guys like this can continue doing their art. Thank you very much!!!
buongiorno sono italiano
I went to Murano ans watched this in being done in front of us 2 mins it took the maestro to make something very similar with no effort all with a smoke hanging out his mouth.so impressed .some of the glass on that island is out of this world .I'm a glass artist and some of that stuff had racking my brain to how it was done .and the place is beautiful if you get the chance GO
Holy shit that was insane
you are correct
There are two glass horses from Murano in my living room, and they're even better looking than the one made here. Incredible skill!
How much?
Grand master!
Murano, Venice. =D
It is expensive as hell. But, it is easy to see why: every unit is an unique master piece.
When we went to Murano when I was young in 2011 I guess, we watched it live and then went to their stores and buy souvenirs and then the Murano glass maker gave me and my sister glass horses for free and it was touching, never forget the good old times. Hope the Coronavirus will be gone so we can visit again soon
thank you . best regards from murano!
