Getting use to the humidity, is the toughest part. Beautiful place to live. I was stationed at Camp Foster (no air conditioning) back in August 74 to Sep 75. Looks like a lot of changes in the last 45 years. A lot to do and see on Okinawa. Stay safe and greetings from Charleston, West Virginia.
wow, no AC! idk if I could survive! but yes there's so much to do! hoping to see it all before we have to leave this beautiful island. Stay safe in WV 😊
My family and I were stationed at Kadena from 1983-87. We spent the first 6 months living in a hotel waiting for off base housing to open up. We then lived for a year in Sunabe Housing (nothing but a concrete box where we froze during the winter months!) until finally moving into a nice four-plex on Kadena. Many fond memories of Okinawa and especially the people - miss it still. Thank you for a look into how Okinawa has changed over the years, it's good to see how much it has improved.
Hey @gary , it is a great island with great people. I know you like the improvements from the mid 80’s till now but, you should’ve seen it in the mid 60’s through the mid 70’s before the landfill they did in Sunabe. I’m kind of bias, I liked it better back then. My grandfather’s house was 2 blocks from the beach, a lot more small town feeling and a lot less populated. Yes, my grandparents an old Okinawan clay roof, tatami floor, raised house with an out house and even a separate bathing room outside, lol. And when we would stay there, we did sleep on the floor on futons(not with a frame). We lived on Kadena and in Yomitan. I think I’m just old souled and miss the good old days. ✌🏽 Have a good day.
Thanks for the insight on Okinawa housing! I am PCSing to Kadena in about 3-4 months and was wondering if there are any apartment recommendations you have?
that's super exciting! We live near the seawall and highly recommend anywhere around that area. Your best bet is to contact multiple housing agencies & tell them your parameters and they will find you the best fit! it's different than in the states where you can just look at a specific building. vacancies open at various times. I hope that helps! lmk if you have any other questions
We foster animals for a local rescue organization. If we decide to adopt, the pet will of course travel with us to our next duty station! Pets are family members for life ❤

Wow! It's great to hear what a wonderful chapter experiencing Okinawa is for so many others

Thank you for this video! I haven’t been able to see a video of Sunabe and this helps! We will be there in March :)
Yay! That is super exciting! You will love it 😀

How much is the monthly rent for those modern apartments? $1000?
estimated $1600 for the first one, $2300 for the 2nd one
If you don't mind, what housing agency were you using for these 2 units?
Hi! We were using Joy Housing! They were great!
what happens to the pet when the 2 years is over
