Frank, I think this is excellent advice, This morning as I was practicing almost fifty very short pieces, on the more difficult ones I was having repeated mistakes, and I was not smiling about it. In this situation it seems like I fell into a rut or in other words I continued to repeat the same mistake over and over. I think that by applying your advice and slowing down a bit more to clearly identify the exact point where my wrong memory is keeping me from making the correct new memory will be quite helpful.
Thanks for sharing! Fifty? that's huge! What are all these pieces? I am curious now ;) Give it a bit of time and you will benefit from new/stronger neuron connections to help you play better :) Let me know how it goes!
@@frankelda9403 It is the first fifty pieces in an online beginners piano course from the Nikolaev's Russian School of Piano Playing, Book 1 Part 1. They're not very difficult or very long. :-)
The examples of psychology theory you discuss are proven in science to be sound solid. You describe it in such a friendly tone and I hope people find your video and the fields of behaviour science (as is one of my biggest interests, longside music). When it comes to coaching it is similar to the pseudo science field of NLP, neurolinguistic programming, which takes what works for some and applies it to others. Mental strategies taught to and used by top athletes or experts are not exactly applicable, but still not useless for the masses. The fix lies in how we perceive things, like the "fail faster" theory that recently started to crop up.
Thanks so much for your kind and insightful comment! I try to be very pragmatic with my advice. It comes from the knowledge I have (being myself fascinated by the human mind and behaviour) and my own experience. I try to analyze my own struggle and understand why it happens and how to overcome it.
