ANOTHER WAR FOUGHTFOR NOTTHING
as a vet....THANK YOU for caring about the lads n lasses
A cheery tune for a song and video that always leaves me feeling absolutely gutted and crying.
Megan Keith this without a tear in the eye .Great tune.
jim cockram cant listen to
I wouldn't keep listening to something that left me feeling gutted and crying. I love this song but not watched this vid before.
Obviously 3 recruiting sergeants did'nt like the tune....
Great Interpretation of one of my favourite Folksongs.
Well done Levellers!
people would be surprised how well the levellers are liked in the forces...well the army anyway
That's ironic considering levellers dont really like them
riley jenkins how do you know? Maybe it’s the neo liberal governments sending them to pointless wars they don’t like...
@@oakashthorn5714 this. I served 22 years...including two Afghanistan tours. Love the levellers and you can tell by the lyrics that it isn't the forces they have a problem with. It's the government's that send them to these places.
@@Greenkiller100 absolutely & now Biden has got in I’d expect military will be heading off to bomb the Middle East as the globalist neo liberals always seem to do..
@@oakashthorn5714 they do?? George h bush (republican)sent troops to Iraq. George w Bush sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq. Tony Blair was more right wing than Thatcher...Trump wanted to nuke Iran recently. Pretty sure wars and who fights them is not limited to either left or right wing politics. Money talks...
The problem with this video is that I can't watch the end bit without bursting into tears.
And then of course I listen to the album version, and I think about the final scene of the video, and I burst into tears again.
And then I see them playing it live, and I still think about that scene where she puts the scan on the war memorial, and I burst into tears again.
With a few tweaks, this could easily be about the Anglo-Afghan Wars in the 19th century instead of the current War on Terror.
Midnight Blue The original (Twa' Recruitin' Sergeants) was actually about the Napoleonic Wars. The lyrics can be updated to fit any war since they're really all just as pointless
Pixels Mossman It was more related to the '45 than to the Napoleonic Wars. Twa Recruiting Sergeants was a satirical song of Highland soldiers joining up for the British Army.
@@pixelsthered Pointless? tell that to the school children in Afghan who are regularly murdered by the Taliban for just going to school.. Or for that matter the Jews who's relations died in concentration camps.. I don't think they will say it was pointless...
@@pixelsthered War is pointless to all of us until we open our front door and see it in our city or town
T. Balkan wars
It's over the mountains, and over the main. Through Gibraltar to France and Spain, get a feather tae your bonnet, and a kilt abeen your knee. An'list bonnie laddie an' come awa wi me.
correct, but this is clearly thier version of the song
For it's over the mountain and over the sea, come brave Newfoundlanders and join the Blue Putees! We'll fight the Hun in Flanders and at Gallipoli, enlist you Newfoundlanders and come follow me!
Dave Tommo The Patriots Prayer is a must listen!!. Levellers grew out of Dave's band The Jam Jah Tree. x
One of the best tunes ever and the lyrics are incredible, think this is my second comment, seems to happen everytime I listen to this tune :)
One of my new favorite songs
Come on, I quite like the clean version.
The song is really no less powerful for it; and if it means it gets played on the wireless before nine, that's got to be a good thing, surely:
Any chance you have a link to the not so clean version you care to share. I don't know what I would be looking for to find it. I got this as a recommended link while watching "TWA RECRUITING SERGEANTS" By The Corries. EDIT: Just found it. Thanks.
The two are not different, just a couple of words changed

Which video did he use this in ?
@@Conscript_Nerf he didn't use it, someone reccomended it on "the soundtrack wasn't as good this time"
That video is one of the best I have ever seen. You guys are amazing, emotional as.......
Hope to see you guys live again soon :)
All the Best
We need home boy that fight for the family kids community. Hum
Divokej Bill are a folk-rock band from the Czech Republic who toured with the Levellers a couple of years ago and did additional instruments and vocals on the Levellers' original recording of this song.
Hugely poinient and a well-crafted song.
I think the lyrics were changed and the "contraband" obscured to make the song/vid more mainstream and suitable for all. But none the less, a great song.
Congrats lads - very well done.
yeah the album version has drug references...
love this song
Love you Levellers!! Chills and goosebumps. Peace to all!
three of my mates in one video! nice work everyone! Rx
What can I say....wonderful song! So emotive.
Love this track, just a shame they had change so many of the original lyrics for the sensors!! Buy the album and listen to it as it was recorded. Brilliant album!!
Strong message!

What changed? I lost good friends and for what. 2 Iraq wars and 1 Afghan involving us when they pulled out it just went back to being the same old.
Pointless waste of lives over oil and religion.
well done lads
Aaaaaaaaand.... I like the dog walking into scene at 2:25 :-)
Her name is Kelly Evans.

Over the mountains and over the sea...
Makes a point in an unusual way but love the song despite the sentiment 😔
i like song that make you think
First time I heard this I thought it was the Pogues.
i have mate twice this song stiks the hairs up on the back of neck
Is this not taken from twa recruiting sergeant? About 300 years old
it’s almost as if it was for nothing!
It wàs for nothing! Herds of r*gheads are stil flocking to Western Europe !!!!!!
Also, when did Willie Nelson join the Levellers? :-)
I imagined my bf to come back from Iraq thrilled to see me, but it changed him. That and the death dart.

my family have been in the forces too war is wrong the lyrics are about the way the underprivileged r recruited
Nice one. I am not sure... but if they really mean fight the Afghani (which is the Afghan currency, NOT the people) then great double meaning, because that war is all about the money (pipeline, resources and the geographic strategical position of Afghanistan).

Thank you Levelllers!
could be that, I'd say it's more likely that they're just using the singular to mean the plural, a figure of speech that's fairly common in the kind of ballads they're trying to sound like ('fight the Turk' is the other phrase that I could think of)
but I keep getting the words wrong!
What's new?
Boris Johnson providing the British Armed Forces with manpower in his youth.
Grange Hill
Trust me the army lov the levellers alright!
Anybody able to send this to Tony Blair? In fairness though, he’ll be too busy on his Vaccine agenda to watch. God bless everyone who’s died or been injured (physically/mentally) fighting in any corporate war x

"To set the Afghan free" jesus to think young guys died having bought that utter shit.
It's "To fight the Afghanee"
sounds like a pogues tune
i like it, we need more anti war songs
0:27 he remembers his copy of Game of Thrones
Naa meen😂
Now Ukraine?
If you like this check out ferocious dog 😀
:o)
I know this is meant to be a song against war but jesus I want to sign up when listening to this....
yeah, it gave me the same urge like "yeah, America, time to go blow up some tarorists" and then someone told me it was an anti war song and I was like "can we still blow up some Tarorists?"
Your soldiers behave like teenage girls on combat breaks😂😂😂
Great song, but can you really not say "bloody Kandahar" in a music video? Oh, and Divokej Bill were definitely better backing vocalists.
Blimey that's a bit poignant.
fix your in ???? bollox, censorship, no swearing, bollox
I like your songs let I do not agree with there message. I agree with the afghan war and hope one day like my father to join up and serve my country.
Lad, you wrote this three years ago; I hope you've gained a bit of wisdom. I have nothing against serving your country, but killing Afghans isn't protecting your country. As Fred Small says, wars nowadays mostly benefit "Armchair heroes / Set to settle some old score / ... profiteers and pushers / Primed to send young men once more / To blow themselves to glory / On some godforsaken shore."
Rob Berra Afghanistan was a country controlled by a brutal Islamic extremist group the taliban. Not only where they horrifically brutal to the afghan people, they allowed terriost groups such as alqieda to safely train there. The invasion was completely justified.
@@harryb8945 "a brutal Islamic extremist group" yes, and one created and funded by the Yanks. And the Taliban are still there, still undefeated.
@@glynrhys68 yes it was founded bu the yanks because, they where blinded by the cold war and couldn't understand the concept that just because someone is the enemy of your enemy. It doesn't make them a friend. Also the talbian is in control because, once again America. Because, they kept bombing the shit out of every nock and crany in the county. Instead of actually trying to win over the locals as we did.
@Hackney Glyn I said I agreed with the war. Not necessarily how it started and how it was fought by some.
This is so wrong. I love you Levellers but.......the British army were not fighting the Afghans. We were sent in to defeat the Taliban which is not the same. The Afghan nation was taken over by the USSR then liberated by the Taliban who the people at the time thought were their religious saviours. Until recently there was a very western culture but the Taliban stopped this. I have many friends who are Afghan and who have fled the wars.
Alice Smart the Afghany is Afghanistan currency
The mujahadeen and Taliban are slightly different i think im not sure how excactly though
my family have been in the forces too war is wrong the lyrics are about the way the underprivileged r recruited
