    On the subject of costumes, I agree with not having a cheap Party City wig, but the costume I started out with (my current ice dress) is actually pretty good quality for something from Party City and so was my Anna costume. I wore the ice dress out to a theme park last year for Halloween along with a better quality wig and I had multitudes of children believing I was the real honest to goodness Elsa and crowding around me. So there are instances where a Halloween costume can be acceptable, as long as it's not one of those super shiny ones that's obviously a costume. If the kids believe in you, that's all that matters.

      Yeah, it's a balance. You just have to constantly push yourself to upgrade and improve, be the best performer you can for the kids ;)

    I remember when I was looking all over TH-cam for princess TH-camrs. I felt like I watched every single one multiple times after a while. Haha.
    Hopefully you can enjoy the princess videos on my channel. I try to keep them consistent.
    I think in this business you have to find a balance between what you can reasonably spend and still uphold the highest quality magic you can. I think maybe the standards for "starter" costumes should be higher to begin with. So a person saves and gets the highest quality they can right off the bat. But you build from there you know? I think the problem is some people are starting companies "for the money" (not knowing this job doesn't make a ton early on) or to just be a princess without too much regard for quality. However it should be about the kids and the magic.

    • @NatalieEverAfter
      @NatalieEverAfter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, kids are the priority. The costumes are just there to make that magic, but who's wearing them is what counts ;) I felt so overwhelmed at the beginning, trying to add all the characters I could, but I've come to realize it's quality over quantity when it comes to building up.
      I do love your channel though, your videos are some of the ones I play on repeat. Although you have a new task: find me a princess-tuber that I don't already know about and I will love you forever. Ready, set,,,,, and ,,,,,,,, GO!

    Hi Nat. As a South African Princess I have had major issues buying costumes because well they don't ship to my country. I have tried my very best to make costumes but my first few dresses were (if I look back now) were terrible. I started investing in high quality wigs really early on but I mean it's so expensive! I say go for it be brave and if your costume isn't "the best" make your personality and characterisation on point it helps with the believability a lot

    • @NatalieEverAfter
      @NatalieEverAfter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right! I think the way you carry yourself is the most important thing about being a princess *performer*. Make sure the kids have so much fun that they never even bother questioning anything. Ad I also strongly believe wigs are more important than costumes :)

    Can you make a video of how the parties go down?! I’m very interested in starting my own where I live but I don’t know how to start the parties once I’m there.

    • @NatalieEverAfter
      @NatalieEverAfter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s definitely something I’d consider doing, but I don’t want you to feel like it’s all that complicated. Once you get there the kids kind of take control, they tell you what they want and in what order, and sometimes they just want to ask a whole lot of questions. The best thing you can do to prepare for a party and get to know your role and understanding how to improv all the answers. The rest of it is just pulling out crafts or make up materials. If you want to study up on how it goes down at a party, I’d suggest looking at a few different companies websites, they usually have a list of activities that come with each package so you can get an idea of what gets done in that time frame. For me if it’s a 60 minute party, I’ll usually just do a crown decorating craft and storytime as my two guaranteed activities - - that’s only because a lot of parents want to pay an hour price for 30 kids and we can’t get through much. If it’s a smaller party, you usually have time to do a whole lot more. In all of my quote requests I tell the parents that the package is just the minimum we will get through in the timeframe, we keep it very simple so that we get to do what the kids are interested in. And sometimes the parents will tell you specifically they want you to bring bubbles or teach their kids a dance or maybe have a tea party. Parents are usually very vocal about what they want to happen at the party. I guess what I’m saying is; the only common denominator is knowing your character enough to give the kids a feeling that they’re really in the presence of a princess! I really hope that helps, and thanks for the idea of the future video - can’t say that it will happen very soon, but it will probably happen on this channel at some point 😊🎉✨💖!!!

    Whaaat? I can’t believe they posted that. The career is about being a roll model and how they handled that wasn’t kind. It is about the kids that’s why everyone loves doing this. But it’s also business. If someone can be more successful on their own and enjoys being an entrepreneur why work for someone? Would you tell the kids as they grow up to never dream of working for themselves or of starting a business? Also that’s like T-mobile telling cricket to stop stealing customers and giving bad service. Then saying they should do the right thing and apply to a big company like theirs. It just doesn’t make sense in the business world. Saying don’t give a bad reputation is completely fair but be specific. Don’t just target all entrepreneur party princesses. Also people get what they pay for so if they are providing a more lavish experience then they should market that and charge more.
    Loved how you touched on what their beauty standards might be. If I have a daughter and she doesn’t get accepted into something I would definitely encourage her to build something of her own. This kind of just goes into the topic of women empowerment for me.

    • @NatalieEverAfter
      @NatalieEverAfter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm right there with you. There's a lot that goes into this business, just like any other. The major difference is that entertainment, especially in the princess division, relies heavily on superficial standards sometimes. It's a hard moral area to navigate and I constantly wrestle with myself because I'd never want business to interfere with doing the right thing.

      Well, I'll take that as a compliment. :) I see both sides to the argument of 'quality versus affordability,' and I will concede that there are times where the effort just isn't there.
      As for a Patreon? I don't have one as of yet, I think that'll be for a little later down the road. • @dreamprincessbirthdays1984
    @dreamprincessbirthdays1984 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well see. About the whole costume thing, to me there is a big quality difference to party city costumes and eBay, aliexpress, and some amazon cosplays. Anything marketed like cheesy costumes like Disguise or Rubies stay away from. But some other brands make ones that are more cosplay style and they actually are not that much more expensive. Those who get part city costumes are just going the lazy path because they are the ones you can buy at a party store and generally pop up first on amazon. My Rapunzel dress, for example, came from aliexpress and cost $37 bucks. The wig was from amazon and cost $31. And to be fair, for costing roughly $70 for the whole outfit, it isn’t bad. Just do a little research, look closely at pictures, reviews, and fabrics used to make the costume. The key is quality but cheep.

    • @NatalieEverAfter
      @NatalieEverAfter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree! Buying cheap or affordable stuff isn't always the problem, it's about the effort. Like yes, we both bought $30 Rapunzel wigs off Amazon, but then we styled them. We added on the flowers and took care in making everything look good. We spent hours and days looking for just the right costume to buy. That's part of the passion that keeps the magic alive for the kids.

    TBH I don't think kids care if the costumes are exactly like the movie or the parks. I was at an event playing a random mermaid and kids AND parents thought I was Ariel... while I was wearing a blue and green dress and a brown wig. I think the focus should be on the performance and presenting yourself well. Whether the dress and wig matches Disney exactly shouldn't matter as long as the kids know who you are (and is actually legally advisable due to copyright).

    • @NatalieEverAfter
      @NatalieEverAfter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, yup! Selling the illusion is so much more than being a pretty girl in a pretty dress. Really getting involved with kids and stimulating their imagination is the whole point, so sometimes it's frustrating to see people just relying on the presentation of their looks to be enough. If you were "Mermaid Princess" and you didn't tell the kids a story about your underwater adventures with a few ocean puns--were you even "Mermaid Princess"??? Glad to see you got the right idea though :)

    Totally agree with you, about the dresses and (most important)character integrity. But also, the parents choose what they want, if they do care about the costumes, then they will hire by a other company. I think it’s more important what you do at the parties, then how good looking you are. (But you should not look sloppy of course).
    Also I don’t have the money to buy those expensive dresses, even I’m doing princessing for almost 5 years. I had to re-order so many dresses because off stains, and ripped fabric. I can’t imagine if that does happen with an expensive dress. (60 dollar per dress is our maximum) And I’m supporting using your own hair, only if it’s identical of course. Children are very smart and noticing everything, using your own hair is most realistic.
    I think there are two sides, one side there are the bad “party city” companies and by the other side the overpriced companies(but with the expensive dresses and wigs).. and I think if you’re in the middle, you’re doing it well. As long as you do it with passion and love!

    • @NatalieEverAfter
      @NatalieEverAfter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Character integrity is for the kids, to keep the magic alive. And while my brain is exploding trying to think about how you could get a costume for less than $60 -- I do agree that parents will hire what they're willing to pay and accept as far as quality. It just sucks that there will literally be companies charging $400+ for their services and using the cheapest possible costumes. Sometimes the princess community is out here doing some messed up stuff....

    • @ch01x2
      @ch01x2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Natalie Ever After Yes, exactly! We don’t ask much for party’s because we love doing it, that’s also the big difference. You should not do this for the money.( And It cost you even more then you will earn.)And it makes me angry if there are companies who doesn’t think that character integrity is important. You can absolutely ruin everything.
      I buy the dresses on Aliexpress, you can get really nice costumes, not all of them are pretty. the cheap ones are also cheaplooking. But if you search for dresses around 60$ you can find some good quality costumes!
      What also a huge difference is, here in the Netherlands we don’t live near Disneyland/world so the most children do not know what the princesses look like in the parks. (Most children doesn’t even go to Disneyland) so we doesn’t have to make sure we look exactly as the parks.. We are more dressing up like the movies, not like the dresses from the parks.

      @@NatalieEverAfter it seems impossible unless you take the time to diy a costume but honestly the presence of the princess is very important. I hate when I see sloppy looking wigs or princesses that don't interact. I got roped into playing Elsa at a festival last year and after so many good reviews, the local princess party company called to offer me a job being Elsa. I had a cheaper Elsa dress and a wig (I restyled) from Amazon. I took the time to mimic the makeup to be exact as I have 4 children of my own and it is important. So while I am trying to add more characters and upgrade, I think performance is definitely the most important thing. Btw, thanks so much for the videos. I love watching. I am making the Ariel bra tonight!

    Ok sorry for this but I need to say this I understand that party city stuff is not good but they also wanna be a princess so what that said is u can’t be a princess because ur store bought like uh hello so what they want to save up for it or they don’t want to buy the actual thing so they can experience it and become who they really wanna be like us furries we start off basic store bought stuff tell we get enough money for an actual thing and cosplay they start with closet items like normal dress random gloves and call it who ever but don’t judge from there appearance sorry that I’m saying this I love ur content your amazing and keep up the work and Ik that are passions are a lot different p.s ur not a princess your a queen

      Absolutely no disrespect, but I'm very confused by your comment. Maybe it makes sense when you say it out loud, but reading it, I'm getting lost very easily. Since I don't understand it, I don't want to respond and make guesses about what you meant.
      The only thing I can confidently refute is that I never said "u can’t be a princess because ur store bought". I have bought a lot of my costumes and made a few of them myself, both are valid ways to source dresses for a princess co.
      The only issue I have with starter costumes is when it is very apparent that no effort went into the final product. So if all you can afford at the moment is something off of amazon, okay. But it costs nothing to brush out the wig you bought or steam out the wrinkles in the dress. Buying cheaper items means more work, but someone who's truly passionate about the job shouldn't have a problem with that.

    Your socioeconomic status should not even define whether or not you could be an actor or actress in general.
