I remember playing this game due to a friend's recommendation many moons ago. He said, and I quote, "There's a girl in this game with her cheeks out and the RPG stuff is kinda cool I guess". Did not regret playing this one.
Glad to see some Sudeki love, very underrated gem. Also shoutout to the person who wrote the dialogues/interactions in this game. In the port town cemetery there is grave that reads: “Here lies Maomao (iirc), our cat. He wasn’t as elastic as we thought.” Or something along those lines. It always made child me laugh lol
OH MY GOD. This game is my childhood. I've always wanted someone to fully appraise this game. Yes, the game is chock-full of tonal whiplash but quite honestly it gives it such a surreal charm... The Developers, Climax Studios, are still around and their most recent big release was Returnal - So they have the resources they can throw around if they really wanted to make the game they wanted to make all the way back when... I'm part of the audience that yearns for the aesthetic of this game fifty times over and I'd buy a copy of a Sudeki Remaster or Sudeki "Remake" (a la something Fable Anniversary) for myself and all my friends. This is a secret gem that way more people need to know about, I want more games that play like Sudeki but with more fleshed out systems... ones that mean you don't have to funnel all the best statboosting items to Tal just to make the final boss go smoother, to start with.
Well this is a blast of nostalgia. I vaguely remember this game, mostly the character designs but the story as a whole escapes me. Thank you for reminding me of this game!
I did that whole thing where you have 400 games in your Steam Library but "nothing" to play, just endlessly scrolling the list till I came across Sudeki. I must have gotten it in a bundle over on fanatical or humble so I decided to give it s try. I played it for 4 hours straight, I really, really enjoyed it. I was playong all characters rotationally every fight, it kept things fresh. I haven't played it since (2019 I think) but I still have fond memories of it. I took an exact screenshot like the one you showed. It really is a beautiful game.
Sudeki was certainly unique. I would love a remaster of this. And Shadow Hearts series. (I bought Covenant just from the resplendent redhead on the cover, so our younger selves were definitely similar.)
@@gregoryclutter5990 Shadow Hearts is never coming back. Universal Entertainment Corp (former Azure) is a bank/casino now. They also don't seem interested in selling the Shadow Hearts IP either. So unless another corporation like Microsoft decides to buy them, that is one franchise we will never see again.
I couldn't afford a Gameboy "something" and Kingdom Hearts "whatever it was on there" with my Christmas money so I ended up buying SH Covenant instead. Absolutely no regrets. Definitely would love a remaster of a lot of old early 2000s games.
Jurgen and Hambos arguing if furries are better than scalies, or vice versa. Still relevant to this very day! Seriously though, thanks for the nostalgia trip.
I love this game, honestly I haven't seen a game quite like this ever since. The ambience, the vibe, the switching between the characters and the real-time fighting. Had this not been rushed I know it would have been stacking up well compared to the other big RPGs.
I remember Sudeki well. Playing it on my Xbox back then without a care in the world. Sudeki was a great game for the time. But falls short in comparison to FFX.
This game has a neat place in my mind in that even though it's mid, you can tell it's a developer's pet project. One of the guys that worked on the game even posted the cut additional 5 seconds of the ending for some actual satisfaction.
I still remember getting rekt by the difficulty spike of the shadow realm, both my melee characters downed with no healing supplies, and for the first time other than the tutorial swapped to Ailish in desperation, and absolutely decimated everyone with the magic rail-gun of absolute destruction. I always kept her and Buki equipped with the best ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Honestly Sudeki was and still is one of my favorite games of all times and well Buki was one of these characters that influenced my taste in the fairer gender a lot as a teenager. Also my favorite track of the game is the Akloria theme and Brightwater is the second place, great to sleep to honestly :)
The one thing that I will always come to mind when I remember the game is the butchered cat that was cut into 3 different parts by the bad guys when they invaded. I kinda found it strange how detailed all the murdered villagers were in that part, but the cat really took the cake.
The main memory i have of this is losing my absolute mind about the color coded puzzles! Being colorblind in a time when the internet was a luxury I would take me hours to brute force those damn puzzles!
I'm quite fond of Sudeki. Thought it was just me being as dumb kid but when it released on GOG i found myself really enjoying it for what it is. Combat is varied and unique. Art style is pleasant and holds up surprisingly well. Even the story as goofy and inconsistent as it is i still found interesting for the most part. Shame the last 2 hours are rushed to hell with an awful ending otherwise I'd call it a forgotten classic. Instead its a very unpolished gem especially for the PC port as you pointed out. Still nice to someone else enjoying it for what it is. A mostly mid, fun time that had potential to be something really great.
I don't remember any of those grisly details from the start of the game. Maybe they did remove some stuff for the German 12+ version. Everything still exploded into blood and fleshy giblets, though.
Maaan I remember playing the demo for this on one of the old official Xbox magazines demo discs and picking it up the week it came out. Beat it in a single weekend and loved it back then. When it popped on steam one day many years later I picked it up and replayed through it for nostalgia sake. It definitely was a very much of it's time in the feeling of it but in a good way. Still one of my favorite rpgs of that era.
I wish they made a remake the way the game was intended to be, without rushed ending and with finished plotlines. Also, New Brightwater and Crystal Reef themes slap. I still listen to them on occasion.
I remember playing this on Xbox when it came out. It's not a bad game and it is woefully overlooked. I had no idea that Tom Baker was the voice of the narrator.
I didn’t even know it existed and yet it’s everything I thought it be. Completely out there anime game when anime could be absolute anything no tropes/down to tie it down.
I remember my dad bringing this home at one point the intro cutscene's visuals seared into my mind almost immediately but in a good way but neither he nor I really played it much at all he basically started the tutorial and that was it. Is it worth tracking down? I do have a certain curiousity that demands satisfaction.
Dang, i was just revisiting this game off steam. still hoping to find an xbox copy again, after renting it as a kid from the local Video Exchange. Thanks for the video!
i remember back then when i first seen this game on a Gaming TV Show and was so eager to play it until it was revealed it was only on OG Xbox and PC and got so disappointed since i only have a ps2 at that time, then i saw the graphics and learned why it isn't on the ps2
This is one of those games where the developers were overly confident in their vision only to fall blindly fall for not seeing the big picture. The early 2000's were an era of high fantasy and stylized cartoon aesthetic, and I only recall most of them being a failure and some being actually bad- like Vex. Not everything could be Jak and Daxter
I remember hating it because i was playing at PC and haven't got a gamepad yet, on PC you could get it for super cheap $5 by buying Cd-action magazine 9/2005 (same as Bad Day LA). Maybe i should revisit it now.
Oh man, I have a Steam cloud save somewhere in the middle of this game, I got to some city of smiths or mechanics or whatever and lost interest while exploring it. I need to get back to it someday, but I don't remember the interface/controls, or the story... Even when I was playing it I never got a hang of the melee controls, the AI NPCs were much better than me at that, so i just stuck with the ranged attack guy, doing pew pews while my nakamas were throwing combos all over the place.
The most baffling thing I got from this is that Baten Kaitos got a remaster, like what?? Also, this was my first Xbox game, pretty fun, kinda janky, but still fun.
I remember really wanting this game... but I had to buy KOTOR Don't think Sudeki had enough great reviews to justify me spending my money on it. Had to maximize hours of play to money spent back then... lol and then I foolishly purchased the first Fable game...
The intro? Yes, that is just the standard 2000 games, filled with gore, stupid female armor, and more importantly, filled with love of the developers, beck wen the only thing to be worried was to make as little bugs as possible and not focus on checkmarks, and timelins. I played it when I was like 12 or something. Sadly, it was too short.
I remember playing this game due to a friend's recommendation many moons ago. He said, and I quote, "There's a girl in this game with her cheeks out and the RPG stuff is kinda cool I guess". Did not regret playing this one.

That's... that's not funny. :(
or the one that sayd "I told you. I was sick" hahah thats my favorite
I remember Sudeki being recommended on the Xbox because there were so few RPG's on the console. I had an Xbox at the time and remember liking it.
As the head of a tiny studio, I love watching these types of videos. Helps give me perspective.

Indie devs are the ones keeping gaming alive.
What studio, I’d love to take a look at your products.
@@planexshifter We’re still working on our current title’s Steam page. Once it’s done I can comment again and let you know.

Watching this video was like unlocking memories that I had totally forgotten.
"Hey, I... remember that... why do I remember that?!"
Well this is a blast of nostalgia. I vaguely remember this game, mostly the character designs but the story as a whole escapes me. Thank you for reminding me of this game!
I'm actually happy someone finally reviewed this game. i really, really loved it.
"Im sure the next video will be shorter than 30 minutes" He said in ignorance like the silly rat he is
You silly rat! You only blew it by one minute fifty nine seconds!
What kind of review do you think this, DQ? 😂
PS: Love you, glad I rung the bell ❤
Double it and pass it on
PLEASE STOP MAKING LAME JOKES AND JUST TALK ABOUT THE DAMN GAME!!! AND TOP CENSORING
Don't you know? You need to put out an 8 hour retrospective on morrowind.

BRO sudeki is a crazy recommendation in 2024. I been thinking about that game since it introduced me to that fcknn dark level that I couldn't pass it
Jurgen and Hambos arguing if furries are better than scalies, or vice versa. Still relevant to this very day! Seriously though, thanks for the nostalgia trip.

It looks like the kind of game you'd see in the background of a TV show.
So true 😂
Now that does look pretty interesting. I have zero experience with RPGs on the og Xbox so this was very informative!
This game looks gorgeous for the OG Xbox. Great framerate, beautiful and rich colors, and solid art direction.
This and secret of mana were among the few real time combat JRPG games that I like.
I remember Sudeki well. Playing it on my Xbox back then without a care in the world. Sudeki was a great game for the time. But falls short in comparison to FFX.
I find amusing that "Kamo" 鴨 in Japanese just means "Duck". They didn't try too hard coming up with the names :D
This was preemptive revenge for Japan giving everything bad German names in their pop media.
This game has a neat place in my mind in that even though it's mid, you can tell it's a developer's pet project. One of the guys that worked on the game even posted the cut additional 5 seconds of the ending for some actual satisfaction.
That Spellforce art though… daaaaaaammmmmmmmn
I’m entirely convinced this game never got to finish a proper production, but what we got…
Perfection.
Sudeki was a game I saw so much of when I was a kid but no one I knew actually played it. Great video!
Your comedic timing is improving loads with each video
I still remember getting rekt by the difficulty spike of the shadow realm, both my melee characters downed with no healing supplies, and for the first time other than the tutorial swapped to Ailish in desperation, and absolutely decimated everyone with the magic rail-gun of absolute destruction. Oh, I had no idea the sequel for Sudoku ever existed!
Woah... people still remember this game in 2024.
Wow, that music section was great. I sometimes glaze over that bit in video essays on games, but it was really striking
You know it's a good video when Legend of Mana music is playing in the background. This was a neat dive into a game I've never heard of. Nice work!
Hope this makes dealing with the thumbnail worth it.
My fav game of all time, thank you for the review friendo! Nassarias grotto is my favourite track in the game, so glad it's one of your favs too!

This animation cutscene are hilarious like wtf
This game sure deserves a remake or remaster with more finished content
The main memory i have of this is losing my absolute mind about the color coded puzzles! Being colorblind in a time when the internet was a luxury I would take me hours to brute force those damn puzzles!
I'm so glad I clicked on this review just for the fact that you informed me of a Bate. Kaitos remaster!!! I never finished it back in the day
I'm quite fond of Sudeki. Thought it was just me being as dumb kid but when it released on GOG i found myself really enjoying it for what it is. Combat is varied and unique. 26:13 Love the Music Choice 😂 good ol' DW never misses.
Just bought it for the asses and
The combat is surprisingly fun

I loved this game. I wish this game could have gotten more love
SOMETHING WORTH MENTIONING IS THE INTRO ON MENU TO RISEN 3 IS POP OUTS BUT NOT SHADOW PUPPETS BUT IT'S STILL VERY UNIQUE.
As this was my very first M for Mature game i love it to this day
Dude SpellForce is hot stuff from all aspects 😏
I didn’t even know it existed and yet it’s everything I thought it be. Completely out there anime game when anime could be absolute anything no tropes/down to tie it down.
Looking forward to some new nightmares! (the old ones have gotten stale) 😋
Monster Sanctuary was mentioned! Great taste!
When you speak of the combat with Elco and Ailish... is that T.R.A.G/Hard Edge soundtrack music i'm hearing?
I love this game. I hope they remake it. We keep getting remakes of games that are less than 10 years old.
God I remember playing this on my windows xp pc that's hardly suited for gaming back in hs. good times!
Maaan the nostalgia hits like a truck with this one ❤
I remember my dad bringing this home at one point the intro cutscene's visuals seared into my mind almost immediately but in a good way but neither he nor I really played it much at all he basically started the tutorial and that was it. I remember the wolverine claw girl and especially her shadow counterpart awakening something in me.
Wow. Thats a trip down memory lane.
rat ❤️🐀
Wow a new Mandolore Gaming video!
its nice to see forgotten sudeki
Dang, i was just revisiting this game off steam. still hoping to find an xbox copy again, after renting it as a kid from the local Video Exchange.
Thanks for the video!
Now thats a blast from a past. 14 years old me played the shit out of this.
i remember back then when i first seen this game on a Gaming TV Show and was so eager to play it until it was revealed it was only on OG Xbox and PC and got so disappointed since i only have a ps2 at that time, then i saw the graphics and learned why it isn't on the ps2
Points for BOF3 music!!
I remember getting stuck in the later levels because they didn't give you enough experience and things would kill you very easily.
Sudeki would have been a great game if it wasnt rushed as fuck at the end.
So sad.
"Prizes & Surprises!" - still hear it, dood...... still love it, Dood! ⁉🐒
what is the sound effect from the softlock song? been looking for it forever!
I remember hating it because i was playing at PC and haven't got a gamepad yet, on PC you could get it for super cheap $5 by buying Cd-action magazine 9/2005 (same as Bad Day LA). Maybe i should revisit it now.
This is one of those odd games that you forget... But remember when you see it.
Though for some it is for better or for worse.
It is kinda of funny how you can switch between a hack-and-slash and an FPS, that's like what if Devil May Cry had a Doom mode.
Oh man, I have a Steam cloud save somewhere in the middle of this game, I got to some city of smiths or mechanics or whatever and lost interest while exploring it. I need to get back to it someday, but I don't remember the interface/controls, or the story... I play it 15 years ago and i love it, 1 month ago i trait to play it and buy it on Steam but the game have problems with modern systems :(
Love this video.
I feel like I saw this in passing once when I was younger, and you scratched a very fuzzy but somewhat familiar memory.
Did they make any other games?
Loved this game
The most baffling thing I got from this is that Baten Kaitos got a remaster, like what??
Also, this was my first Xbox game, pretty fun, kinda janky, but still fun.
One of those tracks you presented for the soundtrack sounded very much like Would by Alice in Chains 😊
I would like to see this game in one of those ai vid2vid thingies, and not just because of the scantily clad women, just mostly
I got this on PC and it worked fine!
SUDEKI MENTIONED
Pls does someone know who voiced Buki?❤❤❤
Crash of the Titans had Shadow puppets. Or maybe it was mind over mutant, but probably the former.
Well, I wish this was made backwards compatible on Xbox!
Maaaan... I had this on demo disk. Played tf out of it.
The cheeks pulls men of culture lol
Every day is ignorant rat day.
I approve of this fellow rodent. Here's a subscribe and bell icon.
Edit: hey, what do you mean "we as humans"...?
I would have thought the female character was the lead given she’s front and center on the box art.
I remember this game from an XBox magazine I got in 2002 the same issue that covered the RARE buyout with Microsoft.
I remember really wanting this game... but I had to buy KOTOR
Don't think Sudeki had enough great reviews to justify me spending my money on it. Had to maximize hours of play to money spent back then... lol and then I foolishly purchased the first Fable game...
Nice
Dude those tracks sound like genuine bangers. Unfortunate how atonal they can be to any given areas. Perhaps that's why you felt they were unmemorable
remember when games were made by people that dont hate you ?
yeah. its been a while...
Gamers created the corpo landscape they live in now. They deserve it.
