Despite your fascination with Corvo Island, I believe it is important to consider the courage of this extraordinary Corvo community. Even what you conceive as unthinkable (such as the absence of a hospital or any other facility), the quality of life is impeccable, and you can't even imagine the efforts made by the Regional Government of the Azores to meet the needs of this community, otherwise it would be a deserted island. Tribute to the people of Corvo and their resilience!
more more please.
show the world Portugal, our history, our culture and customs. once in the past Great and great we continue with our history. look at the simplicity of people. Tell me if it's not the best wealth in the world?
@user-ep4rk5iv8m no we don’t. As you can see in the video many locals depend on tourism.
@user-ep4rk5iv8m I understand your point of view, everything has a price in life. and if by chance it is destroyed, it's our fault português government, we leave it that way.
I am heading to Corvo soon, and loved your video. I believe it is the best video ever made about Corvo. Such incredible views, but most important the extraordinary human picture of Corvo people. Thank you so much.
This video is not a video, it's a film. The music, the cinematography, the narration, is all incredible. Just breath taking! You guys are amazing storytellers.
Thanks so much!! 🥰
100% agreed!
I’m azorean, i know Corvo. But still i was glued to this vídeo!
If you want to visit Faial, in can be your guide ;)
Despite being so small, Corvo is still more than twice the size of Gibraltar and 4 times larger than Monaco.
Didn't know Gibraltar was so tiny!

I don’t usually comment on a TH-cam video, but when I do, it's because I found something absolutely amazing! As a Portuguese, let me give you my true respect for what you have been doing, showing our country to the world! This video is a masterpiece: the image, the music, the construction... congratulations! I'm following your channel for some time, as a Madeira lover, but this is another level! Absolutely amazing!
Corvo is something else. What strikes me about this island (even more than others) is how they managed to organize as a small closed comunity, and they have everything necessary there! There is school, medical care, airport, police, firemen, harbor, church, municipality, shops, restaurant and bar, gas station, farming, fishing, they got it all covered. Each adult person has several jobs, and just does what's needs to be done. It's amazing. And such a nice genuine good people.
Yep it’s a very curious and impressive way of life, but do keep in mind they heavily rely on government funded shipments. They aren’t financing all that themselves.
@@stayclassyvlog a bit like an airplane carrier would be state funded. My taxes well spent! They export beef, milk and cheese, and tourist accommodation, all 46 of them.
If there is an emergency, the air force will go and pick you up and take to the hospital.
Sometimes the weather gets bad for weeks, so they start to airlift there essential goods.
They are not alone!
Awesome video. Dad was a lighthouse keeper originally from Faial and was transferred to Santa Maria where he met my mom. His dad (my grandpa) was a lighthouse keeper on Faial, he ran the Capelinhos lighthouse that was covered by the volcanic eruption in 1957. John F Kennedy who was then a Massachusetts senator, passed the Azorean relief act that allowed the victims of that volcanic eruption to move to the US which is one of the reasons why the majority of Portuguese in the US are Azorean. I wish you guys would do a video on the lighthouses in the Azores. If you google Santa Maria lighthouse you will see where I lived for 7 years before moving to the US.
- I’m another note, I like how you guys interact with the locals on this video. Very easy and natural. And you guys have really picked up a lot of Portuguese. Very impressive.
This is so interesting, thank you for sharing. My parents were born on São Miguel and emigrated to Canada. I had never heard of the Faial volcanic eruption or the Azorean refugee act - now I know more about how the Portuguese communities in the eastern US came to be. www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/BILLS-110hres1401ih/html/BILLS-110hres1401ih.htm
Uau I'm from Santa Maria island and I love that lighthouse, for me its one of the most beautiful lighthouses! You should definetly come to Santa MAria one day! I'm a guide tour so I can help you schedule everything! We have the most beautiful bays of the Azores with white sand beaches. Also Santa MAria was the first island do emerge and because of that it was many singularities. You can see marine fossil 300m above sea level because the island was totally under water two time since its formation! The Azores have a lot to offer and each island is very different so it has a lot to experience! Nice videos, you are not tourists you are visitors with a purpose!
Just been in Santa Maria with 18 friends. We went to Vigia da Baleia and watch the Gonçalo Velho lighthouse incredible beautiful landscape, and down at the shore, the old whaling station. Amazing Santa Maria. One jewel still to be discovered.
@@ttwistedlogic " I had never heard of the Faial volcanic eruption or the Azorean refugee act" why you people have no interest in your own history?
Azorean portugeuse also were whalers who settled in coastal Massachusetts in 1800s .many became farmers.
I can tell you I’m actually from this beautiful piece of island! We never get that island fever you talked about, because we are so close to each other and always find solutions to face our problems! I loved the video, you are obviously more than welcome to come back in the summer, the best time to visit it, and I’ll try to give you even a better tour! Thanks for giving the people the “respect” for our island!
My great grandfather emigrated from the Azores to the big island of Hawaii, where he married a very young woman whose family emigrated from Madeira to the Big Island of Hawaii…there were, at least 13 children. One, of those children joined the gold rush to Alaska….my grandfather…he struck gold and brought my grandmother to washington..my mother remembers some big chunk of gold around the house..he then single handed logged off the old growth trees for their farm in centralia, then carnation….my mother had 13 brothers and sisters🌸
Thx for sharing your story. Very interesting and yes there were a lot of Portuguese involved with the gold rush.

Last November i went to Corvo Island but coudn't see the Caldeira, ah no problem. I met Senhor Fernando the owner of Corvo Tours. He made us visit a little bit the place and even wanted to show us his outdoor discotheque that he was building! He played acordeon for us and i have fond memories of him to this day. Incredible guy. I even asked him if he was receiving money from the goverment. he told me "What the government gives you with one hand, he takes from you with two". Clever guy! ;)
Amazing story. Corvo is truly a place of special and resilient humans!
Wonderful video! I am a Canadian-Portuguese based in Porto with Azorean roots. I appreciated how you highlighted some of your observations regarding the food and self-sustainability on the island. I actually studied food insecurity in the Azores and investigated the contextual factors which influence the regional challenge. Happy to speak more to you on the topic if you ever want to deep dive! (Have to laugh as well as you captured a conversation with one of my cousin's in the Corvo airport! Small world.)
I'm very interested in this topic-- food in/security of various places such as Azores, Madeira, Canarias. Is there any online access to any of your studies?

I'm happy to see your video today! WoW that island 🏝.
I'm saving money to leave the mainland and live permanently on the island of Corvo. I've always lived in Porto, a big city in the North of Portugal, but I'm exhausted from this life. I need tranquility and peace even though life is complicated in this small island. When the Portuguese discovered the island of Corvo, they also found evidence that there had already been a population there. It's a fascinating subject!

All islands are different and special. They have different history and culture aspects, but with the common feeling described as the writer Vitorino Nemésio as "açorianiedade". It's Portugal in its purest form, but also in many ways very different from the portuguese mainland.
One of the few places of Portugal I've never been. Hey, congratulations: your Portuguese is improving. Even old ladies in Azores were able to perfectly understand you! 👏

People on this islands are so genuine, very different from the big city’s, it was very interesting to see how they survive there and enjoy their humble life there. From Azores I only know Faial island, i was hoping you guys would vlog over there, it has a beautiful marina.
So true!
I'm from São Miguel, Açores, I lived there from 2017-2019, as my parents went there to work, the cultural impact was big in me, because it looked liked a small village, it was so small but still you could see that everyone there was a family, I sure felt security in there, I remember that in the summer I slept with the door open because no one would evade it
My full name is Amelia, so I am appreciating my name more lately. It sounds beautiful when I hear it from people in Spain or Portugal.

5:03 small correction: the youngest of the 9 islands is actually Pico, Corvo is the second youngest ^^
Greetings from São Miguel!
Saying that there is no food or hospital in Corvo is a lie!
As a Portuguese who lived in the Azores, I leave here my opinion: In Corvo there is food and there is a health center (which is like a small hospital) and, when someone needs extra medical care, there is a helicopter that takes them to Terceira Island or São Miguel... if it is more serious. Food arrives by boat. People cultivate their gardens. There is a great film about the island of Corvo "É na Terra, não é na Lua" that it means "It's on earth, not on the moon". The island is habitated by around 300 people who have a huge sense of community.
The best islands to visit in the Azores are São Miguel, Pico and Flores.
Seldom does every national TV shows something about Corvo or any other Islands except São Miguel. Thanks to you, I'm seeing images of this Island for the first time.
Amazing place, amazing footage, amazing soundtrack. Well done guys!
I love that you take the dog with you EVERYWHERE ❤️
I have been there in june and it's a one time experience, it's a village in the middle of the ocean with great people!
Guys! One of your best videos to date! Amazing shots. Also the music! Moby & Sigur Ros ❤
The only part of Portugal I never been, Azores, all I know about it, is by watching this kind of vlogs/videos, and I totally agree with you, Corvo is phenomenal, that proves that less is more, small but well formed, isolated but yet close in human and nature warmth, what else does a "man" needs to be happy?
What an amazing video! You managed to capture the essence, beauty and serenity of Corvo magnificently. We stayed in Corvo August 2022 at Joe & Vera's and they were wonderful hosts. Naturally we also visited all the sites you mentioned but unfortunately we were unable to see the crater due the foggy weather. Your video brought back so many wonderful memories and made me feel like I was there again, thank you so much for creating/sharing it! I will definitely follow you guys and speak of you whenever the opportunity presents itself. 🙌

As a resident of one of the 9 islands of the Azores, it's very upsetting hearing São Miguel is "the main island of the Azores arquipelago".
Capital island/main island. Like lisbon is the main city of Portugal.
@@stayclassyvlogNope that isn't the way the archipelago is set up. There is no capital. The Azorean people specifically designed it so no one island would be the main island.
@@ComplexityUnveiled I know it's not actually the capital, but it's the island you are generally referred to when you hear about the Azores. It's where you generally fly to. It's not meant as if it's the superior island of the Azores. Obviously, that would be a tiny brain statement :D
I understand that's probably how it looks from the outside. I hope you get to visit more of the islands and talk with some of the older people.
