    The core of Castaneda's Don Juan teaching is that we humans and every sentient beings on this earth are perceivers. What we perceive is what is reality for us. And this reality, this perception makes a formidable barrier that imprisons us. The ultimate goal for us men, is to break that barrier of perception and makes the being in us to be free and realise all the possibilities of being alive.

      Interesting. I don't think that's Castaneda's core teaching but you are also right, FREEDOM is his ultimate teaching. See my other comment.

    A person was criticizing me for thinking that there were many realities. He said there was only one reality and that's the one we all see and experience. I referred him to the Carlos books as a way for him to understand other realities. Carlos was scared by the insights he learned. This will happen to all of us. But your ability to transcend that fear is what's important. Are you a warrior or a woose? A warrior will face all of his deepest fears and respond with bravery. It doesn't matter if he is killed or hurt. It's all part of life. Your mind will transcend this life. There are many lives and many realities. It is critical that you gain knowledge during this life in order to progress.

      When I was picking shrooms in a cow field, we were unexpectedly surrounded by a huge herd of cows, with the big bulls in front, asking us what we were doing there.
      They probably thought we were there to feed them, but I had to disappoint them, by telling them we were just picking through their crap, and they did not bother us.
      Still, it was a possibly frightening situation, if we were not able to think with them...

    Casteneda was an anthropology student at UCLA when he wrote the first three books which were based on his anthropology field notes. He was awarded a B.A. and a PhD. in Anthropology based on them. Some people think they are fiction rather than based on actual experiences but in any case they are pretty interesting. I've read about seven of them but I like the first two the best. I thought The Art of Dreaming was pretty weird too, but I read it twice.

    Is this about you or Carlos Castaneda ???? (December 25, 1925[nb 1]-April 27, 1998) was an American author with a Ph.D. in anthropology.
    Starting with The Teachings of Don Juan in 1968, Castaneda wrote a series of books that describe his training in shamanism, particularly with a group whose lineage descended from the Toltecs. The books, narrated in the first person, relate his experiences under the tutelage of a Yaqui "Man of Knowledge" named don Juan Matus. His 12 books have sold more than 28 million copies in 17 languages. Critics have suggested that they are works of fiction; supporters claim the books are either true or at least valuable works of philosophy, and descriptions of practices which lead one to an awareness of energies, beings and other worlds.
    Castaneda withdrew from public view in 1973, living in a large house in Westwood, California, with three colleagues whom he called "Fellow Travellers of Awareness." He founded Cleargreen, an organization that promotes "Tensegrity", which Castaneda described as the modern version of the “magical passes” of the shamans of ancient Mexico.

    Going to his workshops 1996-2015 with him, the 3 witches and his apprentices since his death has certainly convinced me that he was the real deal. Going to his workshops put me into an altered state every day and gave me information that has allowed me to transform myself. Dreaming and stalking oneself are the arts Don Juan taught to transform our view. *wrong here about how he was in his last years. He was fantastic.

    I have read comments that Carlos's book is a rip off of eastern philosophies. Need not be a rip off. There are parallels across cultures. Odiyan of India and Skinwalker of native america has very similar rituals. Both involves a new born or fetus. An ointment is also applied to the ears before shapeshifting. Skinwalker seems to be the more powerful version of the two. Howler Monkey gods of native american lore are very similar to Vanaras of India. Hun Batz and Hun Chowen the twin monkey gods are similar to Vali and Sugriva the twin monkey gods. The guardians of four directions or Maya chacs are similar. The thunderbird and horned serpent fight in Native American myths is similar to the Garuda Naga fight. The underwater horned serpent has a crystal located on its head. The hood of the Naga is decorated by a jewel, a source of light of which illuminates this realm.

    Carlos really gained his ability to "see" [perceive through the pineal gland] through the magic mushroom which saturates your serotonigic system when constantly taken (check out kilindi lyi who takes 30 gram doses) Carlos went delirious in the end messing with datura which is a witchs herb and is used to gain spiritual power at the sacrifice of your own freedom. His first three books are really good tho

    • @daniluchison
      @daniluchison 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm sorry but that's not true. The ONLY book that deals with DMT/Hallucinogens is his first book, The Teachings of Don Juan. In that book, Don Juan CLEARLY TELLS HIM the drugs are only for TEMPORARY use. He intended for Carlos to 'shake out of zombie land' through the use of natural hallucinogens. Once he achieved that, Don Juan moved on to other areas of training or better said: UNTRAINING everything Carlos learned as a normal human being.

      @@daniluchison Carlos never wrote about DMT, only 'shrooms (the little smoke), Peyote (Mesqulito and Datura (Jimson weed a very dangerous plant). And I agree, yes, psychotropic drugs cal lead you to a door, but after you know where it is you don't need a guide every time. On the other hand modern studies show psylocibin acts much like a reset button, clearing out the cobwebs and causing actual increase in the brains plasticity. I gottem growing out in my yard.

    • @hitkid96
      @hitkid96 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daniluchison Carlos changes the narrative about the plants in his books which is what leads me to believe that after the 3rd book, they are mostly fiction or some sort of datura delusion which can be long-lasting. In the first book, the little smoke (psilocybin) and the datura were allies that granted him power, and mescalito (peyote) was a guide who showed how to live and conduct oneself. In the second book 'A Separate Reality' he still uses entheogens though now its mostly the little smoke. It's in the fourth book 'Tales of Power' Don Juan seemingly throws these concepts out the window saying they were only a means to gather up his second attention but that doesn't make sense since Don Juan who presumedly has already gathered his second attention, would take Mescalito and the little smoke frequently in the previous books. Though i do agree the entheogens are a means to an end and not the end all be all, the inconsistentcies in don juans philosophies, concepts, and behaviors make me think that only the first three books are non-fiction.

      @@junglie Done dmt several times but not 5meo. The books only info said the little smoke contained some type of mushroom and "other ingredients"-i suppose the toad could have been one of these other ingredients we will never know. Most forget that these were only used at the beginning of his apprenticeship as an aid to shake loose Carlos' convictions about the nature of the world, after that he did not use them again.
      Imho most readers/fans miss the point of the books and what determines this is our personal proclivities(this is not directed at you-just a general observation): the books are taken in two ways . Either..a)entertainment or b)practical instruction.
      Most miss the point that ALL of this is a only possibility because of Don Juan. He was the conduit of the spirit. Carlos was the ignorant apprentice. Most seem to focus on Carlos' experience(entertainment) rather that Don Juans instructional wisdom. And it is here that i challenge any of the ignorant skeptics to put their money where there mouth is-NOT ONE of these "I'ts all fiction!" windbags has ever attempted any of Don Juan's instructions to actually find out for sure. Not one....lol....but they claim to know anyway. Yeah. Right.
      From personal experience with applying Don Juan's advice/practice so far i can say with certainty that every thing he said was absolutely true. He was an occasional trickster(as in the la Catalina episodes) but as he explained "if we would not be tricked we would never learn". Just one of his brilliant maneuvers that at the time seemed like a lie, but retrospectively part of the necessary teaching.

      I would say that the first thing you should know about the spiritual path is that there are no rules. It's silly and incorrect to say that talking about oneself shouldn't be part of the spiritual journey. I prefaced this video with a minute of talking about discovering the books and their impact on me, then got to answering the question in the video title (I was curious to see what I said myself since this video is four years old, so I'm watching it again myself). However, I will concede that I could have been more to the point and gone more in-depth. Definitely just a surface bit of rambling on the topic.

      @ ga.. : to tell a nonsense like 'there are no rules' on the spiritual way reveals that you have not one spiritual experience; it is not starting with thinking but with the stop of the inner dialogue and it leads you just to diminish oneself. You are full of yourself. So don't speak about the spiritual path and stop it to be so much ignorant of the true spiritual world - you could be easily a victim for the hostile forces; humbleness should be the first.

      @debra powers, the title of the video is not "Carlos Castaneda's teachings explained in a few minutes". The title of the video is "Who was Carlos Castaneda". I was in no way trying to sum up Castaneda's 12 books in a video. I think that's obvious. As for my personal spiritual experiences, beyond reading books, I have many other videos discussing some of those experiences. My videos on these topics are necessarily a surface presentation. No video seeking to put such experiences into linear words can ever come close to capturing the truth and reality of those experiences.

      @Go Govindha, there are physical laws and spiritual laws. But those are different from rules. "Don't talk about yourself" is not a principle I agree with. Of course, talking too much about oneself can by annoying and problematic.

      I haven't seen the documentary, I'd be very curious to watch it and would do so with an open mind. I don't have any sort of allegiance to Carlos Castaneda. But having read almost every Castaneda book, and based on what else I've heard, I really don't think there's anyone on the planet (since Castaneda and Don Juan are both dead) who would be qualified to say one way or another what really did or didn't happen. I would watch that documentary with a very, very perceptive eye to see what the hard evidence was that they were basing their conclusions on. If it's a matter of trying to fit a few scattered puzzle pieces together, then it's pointless. Frankly, I think to completely make those books up would be even more difficult than to have lived those experiences and then written about them, even if he embellished or exaggerated. And it's also worth mentioning that there's a book titled "Don Juan and the Art of Sexual Energy" (which I've also read) which is by a woman who studied with Don Juan apparently sometime after Castaneda. Castaneda even makes an appearance in the book, though the author gives him a different name. So this seems to be further confirmation that Don Juan existed, and that Castaneda was indeed his student. Based on what I know, I'm inclined to believe that there is at least some truth to what Castaneda writes about, even if it isn't the whole, completely pure truth.

      Hi Gabriel, the book to read is "The Sorcerer's Apprentice: My Life with Carlos Castaneda" by Amy Wallace, daughter of writer, Irving Wallace. She spent years with Castaneda and the book seems completely authentic. It's not a pleasant book to read as it is kind of an expose about everything behind the scenes with Carlos and his work. But you can read it and decide for your self.

      The best way to really know Castaneda's works is by reading (free online) his books. Then, once you read ALL his books, judge them. 99% of people never read all the books, some read a chunk and still fail to grasp his concepts. I blame it on Castaneda, he left the CENTRAL MESSAGE of his books on his last book, The Active Side of Infinity.

    • @thisone.

      @@daniluchison I've read them all more than once. I too was enchanted and took his writings to heart until I read more of his back story. The only consolence is that he borrowed from many different world practices and spiritual beliefs to craft his stories. So they were based, on some part, on established real life spiritual beliefs. His writing does make sense but sadly not authentic. Case in point I believe he got the idea of the eagle from Gurdjieff and his moon theory. Castaneda was known to have visited the Gurdjieff Society in San Francisco.

      You seem to be emotional about him because 'he doesn't have any original material'...
      If it is true that is there another world out there, wouldn't you think that many individuals that have accessed such realm may have described it differently? We have a game when kids called 'broken telephone'... all have a description and it changes as it goes through individuals. I'm baffled you are hang up on the descriptions he provided, they are just descriptions. If he said develop INNER SILENCE BY STOPPING THE WORLD, it is the same thing that Christians define as ("Be still and know" Psalm 46:10 or 'the kingdom of God (stillness) is within you' Luke 17:21 or Yogui schools using Patanjali's Sutras (I.2,3 "We achieve Yoga by stopping the mind, then the Seer dwells
      on its own nature.")... you see? They are describing the same thing... Don't get hang up on descriptions of the individuals, it is just a trap of the foreign installation.
      Last but not least, Castaneda's books were FILTERS. Only very few minds, very few, would be PERSEVERANT ENOUGH to follow through with his exercises. Most minds, including mine, are WEAK. They will give up at one point or another. Natural selection, the tougher ones, will make it.
