The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso was first produced in 1931, and its enduring success is of course thanks to the reversible case after which it is named. Taking in the key design details, we compare the Reverso Classic with the more modern Reverso Duoface, and bring in a rather special vintage piece - once owned by General Douglas MacArthur - to highlight one of the Reverso’s key features: the ability to personalise its caseback with any engraving of your choice.

Great video. I just got my new JLC Reverso Classique last week and have been wearing it everyday. The Reverso was definitely one of my grail watches and I love its classic understated look.

Recently bought the Grande Reverso Duo and loved it from the moment I looked at it. Then fitted the newly released blue canvas strap and loved it even more.
Douglas Mcarthurs reverso is beautiful. Truly a legendary and undervalued piece of history.

Absolutely excellent videos - thank you for making this. I’ve seen a definite gap in quality overviews of the Reverso and this fills it perfectly. Do you think you’d ever be willing to do a similar overview of the Cartier Tank? Perhaps even a compare/contrast between the two pieces of similar shape, vintage, and legend?

My grail watch, it will never happen but a man can dream. I often wonder why the polo players didn't just remove their watch during the match 🤔 although I'm glad things worked out the way they did and we have this beauty
I was told that they swap horses or something- guess horses get tired quicker than players, like an equine pit stop😁- so there was/is a genuine need to check the time. Was glad when I was told that as otherwise my watch would been over engineered for me at my desk😂😂😂 (the closest I have ever got to a game of Polo is my Ralph Lauren socks)

Love the reverso. Shame there’s no seconds hand, date and automatic version in the current lineup. Hopefully next years watches and wonders will rectify that.

There's been a Reverso with seconds for a very, very long time. Duoface Moon has a date function, and (almost?) all the duetto models are automatic.

Anything. I have one and it can do everything for any event.
@@jackietomo I have been considering one since I sold my last, that was too small and dressy for me (a steel/gold classique on a bracelet).
My hope is that the slightly larger Reverso on a casa fagliano style strap would be more in keeping with my day to day style (casual). What model do you have? I’m looking at the duo with a brown strap but not sure on medium or large
@@manuel_winde I have a classic medium small seconds on a Fagliano strap - dresses the Reverso down beautifully - just enough to make it right for me anyway - I am rarely smart (jeans and a shirt almost all the time!). This is the 4th Reverso I have had and I always found them just a tad too smart and dressy so I sometimes felt a mismatch between me and the watch - not any more thanks to the strap.

i have a question, the black dial face of the reverso does it have lume in indices and hour and second hands ?
The black face has no second hand, The hands and place of the hours are illuminated
fun fact: at around 3:33 the seconds marker is ticking backwards

Hi Mr Porter, would you suggest me to go for the medium or large Reverso Classic Duoface? I have a 6.6inch wrist so both sits well but i just can't decide which one to go.
I have a similar size wrist and am going for the medium, it just looks right.

@@yewjuan93 I bought the medium classic small seconds. Wrist is 17cm. Fits and looks just right. You need to really try it out in person. Even the large sits fine too. The boutique sales lady told me most buyers choose the large. I went with medium for a more vintage style look. Hard decision really.

I'm so torn between a tank or a medium sized Reverso! Both similar yet sooo different! I find the tank more beautiful to my eye but think the Reverso is a cooler watch especially due to its party trick! Do people ever have both in a collection or would that be weird?

really liked jlc as a brand and for its design until a friend of mine and I bought one for ourselves. the quality/durability is really disappointing. thats why it can never beat PP, VC, Lange or even Blancpain alike

I find this off putting. The nonsense snobism, the posh accent, the whispering, just ridiculous.
While a beautiful watch and ingenious design, its association and origins relating to a shameful chapter in history alone puts me off from ever buying this, especially once you learn of the atrocities in the colonies.
You went to all that trouble of producing an average, but well shot review, saying nothing that hasn’t been told a hundred times before & while having DMcA personal watch! Alas you manage to compound this ridiculous missed opportunity by mispronouncing JLC continually! I refuse to believe you didn’t watch a few other reviews of this watch, especially when it follows the same script, did you not hear how they pronounce it? There’s even a review by the current CEO where he mentions it several times! 😂
