- Seydel Fiddle Tuning Harmonica Review
In this video I review a new alternative harmonica tuning by Seydel, a variation on the Paddy Richter tuning that makes it easier for playing Irish and bluegrass fiddle tunes.
Harmonica for the Soul is the channel of Nick Jackman, a harmonica player, multi-instrumentalist and one-man-band from New Zealand. I bought the Seydel Fiddle D harp when they first came out (2022 ?)... I learned Cary Moskovitz song "Sal's Got Mud Between Her Toes by breaking it down using Audacity... great & fun song to play !
I really haven't played any other song with the Fiddle tuning, except for some noodling around to see what I could come up with, like "Shortnin' Bread", but I can do those very well on a regular richter-tuned harp, but I still like exploring the Fiddle tuning !
I do love the Paddy Richter tuning--great for all kinds of songs, like "Tarantella Napoletana ", and a bunch of Celtic/Irish tunes... it is also great for playing minor songs in 4th position... like the theme from "A Fistful of Dollars", and "Ghost Riders in the Sky".
I also love the Easy 3rd tuning, and the Melody Maker tuning !
Alternative tunings are so good for so many tunes.
This sounds like a harmonica I could use, I usually use a Lee Oscar Melody Maker .It usually works but once in a while
there is a song which needs a couple more low notes like in Seamus O'Brien in G.
Chur .
😸👍
yo compre una 1847 o algo asi y es muy dura de lenguetas agujerosmuy grandes y esta fuera de 440 hz una caca por el precio
I'm thinking about getting this. I was thinking a normal D paddy tuned richter was a bit too high for my liking, but I didn't feel like tuning my own Low D to paddy richter myself. This fiddle tuned harp seems to be a happy medium by giving me access to a couple notes lower than the standard D paddy would offer.
It's always good to try different harps to see if they are good for you. I don't think you have to tune a low D to Paddy tuning for most tunes unless you want to go an octave lower. It already has a full scale.
@@HarmonicaForTheSoul Honestly, I just really want to play a tune called "The hut on staffin island", by phil cunningham, which is in D, but starts on the low A (same A that this fiddle tuned harp starts on). If I played it on a normal D paddy harp, It would be up an octave and the majority of the tune would be in the much higher register of the already high D harp, and that just doesn't suit me. So I think I need to either get this paddy tuned harp, or just bite the bullet and tune a Low D to paddy tuning. It is kind of annoying because I really only want to play that tune, but I don't want a new harp for it. I'll figure something out lol.
@@fuckbored4724 If you can play the melody on a high D just play it an octave lower on the Low D. You won't need to retune it.
@@HarmonicaForTheSoul I can play it on a high D Paddy tuned harp, which is why I mentioned tuning the low D to paddy as well.
