7900xtx has ROCm which can help it’s efficiency in “workstation” workflows. My only gripe with my 7900xtx is that it hogs power. Besides that, it’s a beastly card. Also amd driver suck sometimes.

@@bp8__163You just explained why I won't buy AMD again. The rx580 oc was supposed to be a great card, just not when I experienced it. I spent most of my time rolling back drivers than playing games because my games constantly crashed. Look up just cause and AMD oc cards. The issue never got fixed to this day. Since going Nvidia, I haven't had to roll back a single driver. AMD fanboys say drivers aren't an issue these days but you aren't the first person I seen talking about their modern drivers. Me personally, I won't put myself through that again even if the chance of it happening is slim. I'd rather pay more money for better support so I have less to no trouble shooting to deal with.

    • @anonymousx6651

Bad pricing makes a card bad. If it can't compete in price/performance, then it literally failed the one thing it was supposed to do. Sure, there's also better RT performance and DLSS, but in case of dlss instead of paying a premium to hide the lack of performance from your card, maybe just buy a faster one for the same price.

    • @TheLoneWandererGuy
      @TheLoneWandererGuy 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

For that reason alone it makes Nvidia and their cards pointless. They make 5× the profit on many of their cards and continue to keep their prices higher than what they are worth, especially when it comes to price to performance. Most people who are gaming etc want to maximise their pc performance whilst keeping the performance of their components in line with the cost. Whilst the 4090 is currently very good with the performance the price is absolutely absurd, especially when some cost in excess of $2000. Personally I prefer AMD for their mostly excellent selection of good price to performance cards but intel looks to be a promising option later down the line.

I have a ASrock 7900 xtx and in all reality the EVGA 3080ti I had before it performed better!
So a 4 year old card I purchased refurbished off Amazon 2.5 years ago created a better over all experience then a top of the line 7900 xtx AMD card.
Now I'm using my PC for simulation racing which most people don't do! Most people just play your average FPS or other role play games that don't require the CPU and GPU to make both physics and graphics adjustments by the millions per split second. So under normal game play conditions maybe the 7900 xtx works well but under heavy load conditions the 3080ti still out performed it! Not only that but the videos I made the 3080ti looked way better.
I shouldn't have to overclock a 7900 xtx for it to perform ALMOST as good as the Nvidia 3080ti.
In all reality, I'd say buying a used 3080ti or 3090 is still a way better option over the AMD cards. Buying a 40 Series card probably destroys the AMD cards when it comes to high stress gameplay.
In all reality frame rates are about the same too. It's completely and totally possible the sim I play just suits Nvidia drivers better but I honestly expected the 7900 xtx to be better.
It's a massive struggle to get the title to look good and I constantly get frame jumps/Skips with the AMD card while the Nvidia was as smooth as a babys bottom lol

I wish AMD would have better support for literally anything other than gaming because 90% of creative software uses some sort of function that either only works with Nvidia cards, or works far better with Nvidia. At least Intel seems to be showing some interest in markets other than gaming so hopefully 2 or 3 generations down the line they'll be the Nvidia competitor that AMD refuses to be.

Also, I am ready to dip my toes into RT performance and do not mind AI frame creations when necessary as I play Jedi and Cyberpunk but also want Counter Strike and other First Person Shooters to run above 120 FPS.

The best card I ever bought was my EVGA Geforce GTX 1060 6GB. So far it has played every game I have ever tried playing. When Fallout 4 came out I had to buy a new card and I bought a card that would fit the low end of the requirements which was an Nvidia Geforce 750ti 2 GB. I'm not sure why I bought the 1060. I can't remember but I found it on eBay as a refurbished that was like 6 or 7 years ago. I just took that card out and gave it a deep clean and new paste. Having 32 GB of 1600mgz of RAM has likely helped it but I'm fairly sure that there are some games coming down the pipeline to which I may have to upgrade my entire system or just not play those games. I own something like 500 games that play on this system thanks to Epic Games. I have no shortage of games to try and play so I'm not too worried about upgrading. This means I can sit and wait for everyone to upgrade and sell or refurbish their used systems. Hopefully, I will be able to find some decent used gear that I can buy 1 part every couple of months until I can build a new rig but this system is decent for me right now. It's an Asus MB with an Intel I7 4770k 32GB of RAM and a 6GB 1060. I'm a retired PC tech. I passed at the top of my class and I apprenticed with a computer tech after I finished my course. Computers were much easier to repair back then compared to now but most people don't actually repair computers all they do is clean and swap parts around and then call themselves a computer tech. I have this MB that worked before it was shipped I have tried almost everything to fix it. I just spent 2 hours micro-scoping the board looking for signs of damage with no luck. I did find a few bent CPU pins so I fixed them but doubt that will fix it. There is a lot of redundancy in those pins so it doesn't matter if 1 or 2 are out of order. I will now order a diagnostics card because I seem to have lost mine I have one for a laptop but it won't work on a desktop. No one really fixes a motherboard issue they just buy a new one or replace it if a ram stick goes we don't fix it we buy a new one If a video card goes you buy a new one. There are people that are fixing their GPUs now and that's good to see. Usually, though you don't repair a part you simply replace it. How can you call your self a tech if all you do is replace parts?

It comes down to cost per hour. You can't justify spending an entire day, or more, to find a broken trace on a board when you are trying to run a business. If he can throw a new piece of hardware at it and get 5 jobs done in a day that's what pays the bills. Spending all that same time on one job is not an effective use of his time as a business. If it's some super rare or ungodly expensive piece of hardware then maybe, but the customer needs to charged accordingly. Most people want the fix done as quickly and cheaply as possible. On your own personal hardware that's a different story you can burn all the time you want on it.

    1. Most importantly, Thunderbolt 4 with dGPU pass through. I power: either 2x 5K displays or 1 6K display, a 16 channel mixer, 3 mirrorless camera, a lighting rig, various accessories off of ONE cable.
    2. Mini ITX.
    3. Either a 10GB Ethernet or a second TB4 port for Ethernet
Mini ITX forced a z690i board: there is only one mini board that has TB4 dGPU pass through. From there, I just had to pick components. I analyzed where my workloads were bound: they are largely GPU bound workloads. That meant that a 13900K was going to be wasted - which is actually great, because I need to mitigate heat; I can’t fit a full size CPU cooler. I grabbed a 13600K. Then, I analyzed linux support for both Nvidia and AMD. I chose AMD, and then I just picked their top of line card that I could fit into my case: Pulse 7900 XTX. Ram was easy: 2 6800 speed DDR5 sticks at 48GB each.
And for the case, it’s a custom case that I can’t disclose the manufacturer of, or Apple will shut them down - but it’s a miniature replica of a cheese grater Mac Pro. Just barely large enough to fit these components and an SFX PSU.
The plus side: maybe I’ll install windows on one of my 3 M.2 drives (4TB) and load up Steam. I haven’t used windows since Vista, so it’ll be interesting to say the least.

The 4080 super was a little cheaper than the 7900xtx where I live, so that made the choice pretty easy for me

If you included dlss in the price per performance it'd be closer since fsr isn't quite as good, but it's close enough that I'll stick with amd

Yeah ngl my 13600kf + XFX 7900XTX were worth it. Brutal performance for so much less than getting a 4090 or a less powerful 4080. (I don't use RT and I don't do streaming/content creating so benefits of Nvidia don't matter to me)

DLSS 3.5 is kicking ass, huge fps boost, with almost no quality loss. The FPS/dollar ratio switches..

Want ONLY GAMING go for AMD, everything else like Content Creation, 3D work, AI Computing, etc it's all Nvidia.
Not to mention even in Gaming Nvidia beats AMD but still AMD will suffice most people's needs.

Used cards are tough to choose from, 3070's are cheaper than even used 6700 xt's, and perform better in 1440p which is my monitor resolution, but 6700xt's got more vram, so not sure which to go with, coming from a 1070 ti and 2600x
