Well think about it. In order to get from the realm of light to the realm of darkness you have to travel there. And what better way to travel than by car and riku now has the key for that car. Easier traveling between realms confirmed.

It would've been a good nod to the fact that The original Kingdom Key once belonged to him.
Marlon Uchiha thing is...i don't think think Kingdom Key is really Sora or Riku's true keyblade. Every other wielded has a keyblade materialize that represent their personality. If Mickey had to go find the Kingdom Key D (darkness), it makes since that Kingdom Key L (light) would've just been laying around also. It was likely safe within Destiny Island's heart then Riku opened the way for darkness so the keyblade was free and sought the nearest champion to stop the darkness (Sora). Riku's new keyblade could likely be his true keyblade. Or it could just hint that Pixar's Cars is a world in the game. Starseeker belonged to Yen Sid so even though it's synonymous with Mickey also, it's not his true blade. Of all Keyblades that have appeared in the games so far, Oathkeeper is the one that matches Sora the most (though he'd likely end up with something brand new if Kingdom Key isn't his true blade).
The Reaper's Shadow youre right tbh. Back in the keyblade war time, people created keyblades in likeness to the x-blade, the true key. And as a result, none of them had the exact likeness but rather a personal version. I agree that kingdom key and its counterpart are literally the realm of light and darknesses keyblades. Kind of makes me wish the original x-blade had kingdom key d rather thsn just two kingdom keys. Would have made a lot more sense.
Well i alway tink that what make the kingdom keys important is the fact that they are a failsafe in case the balance betwen the realms are in danger and we dont have wielders enougth to prevent disater these 2 keys would chose suitable user to try to save that version of existence.
The Reaper's Shadow I fully agree but mostly but his key having a Micky on it tells me it may not be his true one either. The reason is that maybe important ones like thst choose someone when they need to in order to protect their realm but otherwise have no true master.

Really good theory! But I don't think it's the kingdom key of the realm between. There are three types of keyblade light, dark and heart. I believe its the kingdom key of heart, the heart has its own realm The Realm Of Station plus riku just learnt in ddd how to step into peoples hearts BUT we havent seen anyone go to a worlds heart which me know riku can now do... plus its shaped like a car key because all three keys fuse together to make the real x-blade and surely the really x-blade should have all types of keyblade light dark and heart. Don't say that in kh 1 there was a heart keyblade that wasnt a kingdom key
Makes sense but I don't fully agree. I feel like giving Riku the Keyblade of the between makes more sense because it perfectly represents Riku's character. Honestly I feel like all the keyblades that have the eyes on them are keyblades of heart. I feel like if there is a keyblade for the realm between, it would make sense for us to not know about it.

This would make sense because Riku lived in the realm of light (Destiny island) but was trapped in darkness by ansem. He would later be free.
His new key kinda looks like the light blade portion of the x-blade. That's what it reminds me of anyway.

The Kingdom Key X: Keyblade for the Realm Between
The Nobody's who join the Organization get their name anagramed with the letter "x" thrown in (Roxas = Sora x, Xemnas = Ansem x, ect). Nobody's are rejected by both the light and the dark and are forced to exist in between. Thus, giving the keyblade of the Realm Between the "X" would make sense. They could call it Kingdom Key B (B for Between like the D for Darkness with Micky's blade) to avoid confusion with the χ-blade (which did influence the "x" being added to the Organization's names in the first place), but lets be fair; this series can be confusing as is at times so what's one more minor thing? Plus I think Kingdom Key X sounds cooler than Kingdom Key B.
That's a pretty good theory! And it would definitely make sense considering the Keychain.
I kinda feel like you might be overlooking some details, though. Someone posted on Tumblr that this Keyblade is not a car key, but rather a dimple key (or Keso key, as the post writer refers to them), since it has "dimples" rather than teeth (compared to the other modern-looking Keyblade Fenrir). I dunno if this is 100% accurate, but the transition from skeleton keys to something more modern could mean something very important for Riku, and maybe the connection to the Realm Between (perhaps a modern Keyblade indicates that the Realm Between was never solidly connected to the other Realms, but now it is, and so it's Keyblade took the form of a more sophisticated, higher-tech-looking key?).

I don't understand why people hate on the keyblade design. Like, isn't the whole idea of "KEYBLADES" fucking ridiculous in and of itself?? We've had a ton of keyblades that were designed in an old-school style. Why can't we have a key that looks actually more like a modern security key than a car key but ok. Let's say it looks like a car key. Sora's keyblade looks like a key for fucking shed!! What the fuck is the problem with a car key looking keyblade? Doesn't KH require this sort of suspension of disbelief in the first place? Everyone I've ever showed this game to always comments on the fucking keyblade and how ridiculous it is. And it is. But then wtf is the problem with Riku's key all of a sudden while we could all accept Sora's big-ass keyblade???
Okey first off I agree it must be the key of "In between".
And I've never seen a laser cut car key that looks like that but what can I say I have a 2010 Kia Forte Koup while my parents have a laser cut key for their 2014 Kia Sorento.
But I have seen a key like Riku's once when I was eight years old and it was a Hotell Key for Circus Circus in Reno Nevada.
Theory suggestion I had an idea that maybe we visit the worlds like twice through the game and maybe each first run of the worlds is just a fake reality and the second run of worlds is the real version but maybe the real versions of the worlds are dark and destroyed because Xehanort maybe trying to cover up the damage by fabricating a fake reality to cover up the damage he has done

I mean we got to see the ability for keyblades to evolve in unchained X (if you have played it i play it often) so why not bring that to the main game and we cant deny Unchained X is also a major part of the franchise since its the very beginning

I was thinking about this earlier yesterday but what if youre not wrong at all? Each keyblade has a special ability and such kinda like in bleach with their blades take for example young master xehanort in dream drop distance his keyblade has the ability reverse time

So, if we treat them as such and, say, have the two Keys of Light & Dark cross-over this new In-Between Key in aesthetic fashion, what design do they resemble? ;)

There are other realms besides light, dark, and in between though. For instance, there's the dream realm where Riku earned his Master status. There's also the Unchained realm, which may play a part of KH3, considering KHX has evolved from a Facebook side story game to getting full CG Cutscenes.
It's also possible that the playart figure is just a prototype and the final version will have a different keychain. I can easily imagine Mickey's symbol being used as a placeholder.
I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THAT MICKEYS KEYCHAIN IS A PLACEHOLDER. Nomura has said on more than one occasion there's no coincidences especially at this stage in the game..
Didn't they also state that the later worlds haven't even begun development yet? There is still time to alter things.
There's also the chance that the image was altered for spoiler reasons. As another example, the Avengers: Infinity War trailer shown at SDCC altered Thor's face to avoid spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok, which hadn't been released at the time. Nomura may have done something similar here.

So in the E3 trailer, aqua picked up a keyblade that has a mickey chain as well, and it looks more like the other two. What do you think this means? What does the mickey chain represent if not the keyblade of the 3 realms or would it be an additional keyblade?

What about Roxas? Wouldn't he be a better wielder of the keyblade of the world in between? His whole thing is that he is twilight, light and darkness. Also I'm not sure I believe your theory for one reason: count the circular indentations on this new keyblade. 9. If it was truly the keyblade of the world in between, wouldn't it have 10, the number in between the 7 seekers of light and 13 seekers of darkness? And lastly, just something I want to bring up, why does this new keyblade have nothing sticking out of its edge? Aside from Fenrir, and a few others, this doesn't really happen. Is it a link to Terra, who also has a double edged keyblade, or maybe a connection to Cloud, or something else?

I personally like Riku’s New Keyblade, it’s uniqueness did gave me a hint of something related to the Kingdom Key and the Kingdom Key D.
Good theory! Although... Mickey's gonna be replaced by someone else in weilding the Kingdom Key of Darkness. Yang is the male side that represents light (Sora) and Yin is the female side that represents darkness. It'll be a girl weilding the key in the end. Xion gonna be revived as a human and weild it probably. It'll complete the 2 guys and 1 girl theme that's prevalent with the main trios.
That would actually make since. Considering, at this point in the story of Kingdom Hearts, Riku us no longer struggling with Darkness in his heart and has accepted the fact that his heart is made up of both Light and Darkness. So, him having the Keyblade of the Realm in Between us perfect.
So a I've got a question to ask? How did riku's keyblade break if a keyblade cannot be broken? At least a true and real keyblade that is. As stated in recoded if the key blade is fake it can be broken or shattered. Or if it's not a true keyblade it can be broken or shattered just like we saw with sora's keyblade in recoded or the X blade in Birth by Sleep. So why is it that riku's keyblade was broken if it's a legit Keyblade? Can someone please help me answer this?

One thing that helps it make even more sense, since Mickey wields darkness, and sora light, it would make sense that Riku wields the keyboard from the realm between as he uses both light and darkness

Car key?
Here's a thought. Riku's new keyblade is not for the realm between, it is THE Kingdom Key of the realm of light, it is Sora's Kingdom Key that was always meant to be Riku's. We know keyblades can evolve, so it's certainly possible that the Kingdom Key looks different depending on who wields it. If it was from the Realm Between, I believe it would've had a different colored keychain to differentiate it from the Kingdom Key L. So if Riku get's the Kingdom Key L, what does Sora get now? It's obvious they would never get rid of Sora's iconic keyblade, so all they have to do is switch the keychain but keep the same keyblade design. And the most obvious keychain would be to use Sora's crown necklace. I'm betting my ass on all this.
CampingforCool41 I don't think that kingdom keys can evolve we have learnt almost all keyblades are man made and they can evolve but I think kingdom keys are natural keyblades that just can't evolve.
MultiLife There is nothing to say that they can’t change form. Hell, we already know that keyblade transformations are a mechanic in kh3, so what’s there to say that a magical object like the kingdom key couldn’t change in appearance to suit its fated wielder?
They are not literally manmade, they arw forged by the heart itself, like if it's a manifestation of the heart...if a heart change, so does the keyblade... (I mean, the dark sword Riku had became a fng keyblade just because he accepted th3 darkness and controled it)

Rikus keyblade has always been the one of the realm between. In the first game his was the only one that could unlock a persons heart, thats why Sora stabbed himself to unlock Kairis heart. Riku also used it to unlock Malifecents heart to pure darkness.
In Birth By Sleep you learn that type of keyblade is only created when 7 lights are brought together, and what was Riku trying to do in KH1? Bring Malificent the 7 lights
This isnt a revelation, just as soras keyblades always represents the light, Rikus always represents the realm between light and dark. Its not new.
