    More reviews with Nana please! I love that she and Tom have conversations about why they like or dislike something. And the shared connection about white castle was chefs kiss

    The flower of a butterfly pea plant is a natural dye, and is why the blueish purple color is in the drink.

    • @kimberlyhastings682
      @kimberlyhastings682 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Butterfly pea flower powder in its natural form is blue. Add something acidic and it turns kind of magenta. Add something basic (baking soda) and it turns greenish.

    • @TheFancyHatLadyReads
      @TheFancyHatLadyReads ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Butterfly pea flower beverages seem to be all the rage at trendy tea places and such right now. I guess because they're very instagram-friendly? The color is pH-sensitive and changes from blue to purple when you add lemon, which is probably why it was served separately to add to the lemonande/yuzuade drink on your own (and on camera).

    This was so fun. It was fun to hear Japanese. Tom did a great job nudging Nana to explain her views, and it was fun to watch Nana because she was certain whether she liked or didn’t like.
    Thank you Tom for giving us this expensive review. The sushi boat will be a must on our next trip. It was fun. Reminds me of the fanfare of the kitchen sink at beaches and cream.

  • @pumpkin_faerie

    What’s killing me is that they aren’t really stirring the drinks they are drinking. Sipping the top of the whiskey drink is of course going to taste like whiskey because that’s the last thing they put in the drink. Please, just give your cocktails a very good stir and then try to drink from the middle of the drink with your straw.
    Love Nana’s insight and education of the dishes! More Nana!

    • @WDWNT

    • @pumpkin_faerie
      @pumpkin_faerie ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WDWNT sadly I’ve gotten them from various locations at Disney World. One I remember in particular was at the Yacht Club and I watched as the lady made my mojito and the last thing she put on top after the syrup and seltzer was the alcohol. I think it might be a Disney practice? Ever since I’ve been stirring my cocktails and the taste is night is day. Maybe Disney needs better training? Or perhaps it’s their way of not over pouring.

    Come to Las Vegas!! We have multiple (high quality) All You Can Eat sushi restaurants where, for $35 per person, you can order whatever you want from the entire menu... as much as you want. I've even been to a la carte restaurants where a boat like that wouldn't cost much more than $100. This is way worse than a theme park upcharge. They're trying to double-dip both the fine-dining and theme park upcharges at the same time. They can't have both!

    Good on you Tom for trying Natto. I've lived in Japan for about 7 years now and I don't go anywhere near Natto. Strong smell of sweaty feet, the texture of goo, and the taste of...nothing. It usually ends up being something people really love or really hate, Japanese people included.
    But let me say those prices for the Yaki-udon and Okonomiyaki are outrageous! I thought Americanized Ramen prices were bad but this is taking it to a whole new level. I can get Yaki-udon for 4-6 USD and Okonomiyaki for about 8-10 bucks!

  • @bonnafide2606

    Soy sauce is made from fermented bean curd. What's the big deal?

  • @nish221100
    @nish221100 ปีที่แล้ว

    The crunch on the takoyaki is probably ten-kasu. It's not standard.

  • @nish221100
    @nish221100 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    izakaya is not quite home-style. It's a place for drinking and snacks. So it's kind of like "tapas" style. Usually have various kinds of home style food but much better prepared. Natto Roll is not the cheapest. Kappa Roll (cucumber) is usually the cheapest. Soy Sauce and Miso are more fermented soy bean. Good Natto is slightly sweet and minimal sticky (although some people like the sticky). Bad Natto is positively awful. (Most Natto in the US is ok now; not like 50 years ago when it was not). ( I can get the eye out even with those chopsticks.)

    I was looking forward to this restuarant, but the prices combined with the portion sizes has me not wanting to bother. It had so many things on the menu i always wanted to try out, but i aint going to risk trying out a okonomiyaki for nearly $30 for example.
