    Great to see that the Machado bros are so open minded, they don´t hate, they try and learn and above all they respect other styles, this talks so well about them, pure class. Respect.

      They should respect other styles but not support nonsense teaching, that stupidity,not open mindedness.

    To Bobby Bello, i am 64 now and started training in Kykoshinkai karate at 17. This is one of the harder styles of Karate with full contact kicks in competition. however after getting my black belt i began To see the weakness in the system. I then started to train in Thai boxing in the Hartford mill in Oldham England, i trained with Tody and woody, Thai names Thosaphon Sitiwatjana and Chinawut Sirisompan, these two Thai boxers were the first to really bring Thai boxing to the western world in the 1970s. i trained with them for about 10years. I then trained with woodys brother Krinsak Sirisompan who i shared a house with for a few years.we both worked as bouncers at Baileys night club in Oldham. this is where my understanding of real violence began. i was lucky enough to never to be attacked with a knife, i did however see many people attacked with knifes ,beer glasses and bottles, this made me think that Thai boxing did not really address being attacked by weapons. so i started doing Escrima, the striking aspect with stick or knife works just fine however the disarming of a knife or stick were just as bad as in the above video, absolutely no realism whatsoever. And so with like minded people we took to hard no holds bared contact sparing with wooden training knifes and sticks. Through over 20 years of doing this with all kinds of martial artists ,the conclusion is yes you can eventually get a knife of somebody if you don't give up, unfortunately you will be stabbed and ripped to ribbons before this happens. There is, i repeat, no sure way to disarm a knife without getting badly injured or killed against ether someone committed or someone who knows how to slash and stab from any angle who again is committed. I'm not a knife fighter, don't know any knife fighters, never met one in my 40 years in martial arts, there are many people who play at knife fighting especially in escrima and obviously in Systema. I was also taught Krav Maga back in the mid 1980s by a retired Israeli solder who i was training in Thai Boxing, this was long before the spate of fake Krav maga schools started.
    I keep asking for somebody to post a fast violent attack on martin, no holds barred, from any distance ,stabbing and slashing as fast and hard and repeatedly . now that would be something to watch, I don't claim to be able to beat anyone, what i do claim is a real understanding of real violence. most knife attacks are assassinations, you wont even see the knife. Mr wheeler is about the same age as me, he looks very fit, he probably could whip my ass in an unarmed fight . but if he is unarmed and i have a stick he wont take it away without enduring a lot of pain. Again if you try this stuff against a real knife attack make sure your will is in order. Anybody who wants to experiment defending against committed knife attacks is welcome at my humble training facility in the Philippines.

      no idea if these guys are any good at unarmed combat, however someone who just stands still and lets themselves get hit proves nothing, anybody from any style of martial art could hit somebody who lets them, and hurt them, i have seen that kind of demo in many martial arts, a street punk could hurt you bad if you just stood there and let him hit you. However my opinion on the knife and stick defence us still the same ,its absolutely stupid, go to any street combat escima class and see the speed and ferocity. that a stick or knife moves at. when you can disarm someone moving at that speed and ferocity let me know and i will sign up for Systema classes

      @@mikegarner8580 A lot of what Systema teaches you regarding the knife are drills that allow you to relax so that you have clarity of mind in order to see openings and recognise your own freedom of movement. No Systema instructor is saying that you wont get cut, remember its not the martial art that will save you but your ability to act when required. Im a Systema practitioner and personally if I was up against somebody with a knife Id be unleashing all my fury on his face first even if it meant taking one in the ribs, but then thats just my modus operandi.

    How come there is not one full contact sparring video for systema...the only way u know if what u study works is if u put into a competrtive environment and sparring is as close as it gets.

      play acting ,no understanding of real violence whatsoever, makes me cringe to think of all the money this man is making teaching people to die on the end of a knife, you will never see this stuff done with speed, commitment and intent on the part of the attacker, why is that? simple because it does not work., Reality check , if you want to survive a violent attack armed or unarmed you had better be at least as committed and violent as your attacker, why is it so many people train in this kind of thing, because its easy. Boxing, mixed martial arts ufc ,street combatives, Thai boxing, these training methods work up a sweat, make you tired, you get hurt, you find out how hard it is to actually fight another person who is not cooperating

      @@mikegarner8580 What are your Credentials??? Ive been Training Martial Arts over 20yrs, been in Numerous Street Fights, a Cpl Amateur Mma Fights/Challenge Matches. I attended a few of Vladimir Vasiliev's Seminars thinking it was Bs, so i asked him to do some Sparring he almost Broke both my Arms off a Jab/Cross Combo I threw at him. Its a good thing i didnt throw the Combination any Faster, the Wrapping motion he countered it with wouldve broke both my Arms. U should just go to one of their Training Facilities and have a go with the Instructors, just their Punching method alone is unreal

    How can you as a Bjj blackbelt, endorse such a fraud that teaches people that nonsense?

    • @johnmachado1
      @johnmachado1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      You are entitled to your opinion but I will give you a reason why for you to think about it. I have been long enough in Martial Arts to see the "Good aspects," in other styles. I look for things to strength my knowledge to get out of the BJJ "Box" and to push my brain into new areas. If you look into my channel I talk about other styles, like my experience in Capoeira and I give some examples on how that helped me develop different "movements" and ideas. Also I talk about Filipino Kali/Escrima and how that helps "movement", self-defense and weapon disarming so this is not new to me , I've been doing it all my life. Back in 80's in Brazil my cousin Rickson Gracie started doing " Ginastica Natural" to improve breathing and movement and we all followed him and started doing it also and it was great. Now days you can see Conor McGregor doing Ido Portal Movement Training?? The point here is about improving your "movement" and getting new Ideas than you bring that back into your fighting game. Systema trains you on how to flow, move and breathing so you learn that and bring that new game into your Bjj .

      My advice to you is put your money where your month is and train with Martin Wheeler for just once. I was there in that time and trained with him. Ask Wheeler to give you a strike when you actually meet him.in person for the first time. Martin Wheeler is one of the most gifted martial art instructor that I ever trained with.

    • @StopMoColorado

      @@craigculver2427 - I second that sentiment. Nobody who's worked with Martin talks trash about Systema. You think Dan Inosanto knows less than you about what works and what doesn't, kid? 🤣
      I've worked with Vlad and Martin both. Both are insanely talented, and Vlad probably a little scarier (his brother, Valentin, perhaps even moreso, they're both remarkable, hit like a literal sledgehammer...I boxed at fighting weights of between 225-240, I've been hit by a lot of big guys, but none of them came close to Martin or Vlad, bit even close), but English is Martin's native tongue, he's very intelligent, and just a damn good teacher, I preferred him as an Instructor.
      Systema is a toolkit for un-/reprogramming your nervous system and your psyche, the Combat and self defense aspects naturally grow out of that, united with the physical attributes the exercises develop. But, please, don't try it for yourself, continue judging it based on clips you've seen on TH-cam, never having made it through a single class. That's really gonna hurt Martin's and Vlad's feelings 😂
