In with you! I have a good friend who is as "literate" in music, much younger than me... he's a drummer. His taste is so wide spanning and I pitted him against my older musical genius friend, who's a DJand has typed with some big names like Ladytron. Initially there was tension, but very quickly the respect built and built. To have that musical literacy as well as being able to play multiple instruments is so rare. To convey all you love about music, and all your influences, and all your love and emotion is really special. I haven't seen it much. I don't know why he reminds me of bowie. Other than that bowie had the same joy in performing that only came across when live.
"Ren, what music do you like,? Yes, I love music." He surpasses all time and space when it comes to his music. Medieval to EDM, the music flows through him, unapologetically.
A perspective I have yet to hear from anyone is how Ren’s ADHD creates these types of mash up performances. Being able to change up constantly through a song allows him to remain engaged and through that keeps the audience engaged.
He's an entertainer. I keep thinking of the old style guys who sang, danced, acted. They would focus every ounce of their talent into entertaining their audience. Never a dull moment. I would have said he comes out of that stable but of course there's near a two generation gap between them and Ren.
I thought you might be interested in this: "Yo guys! Ren here. I'm gonna answer it coz on videos like this it always kills me that i dont know how to get the sound haha. Line inputs running from each of the busking amps into a H4N recorder. Then the H4N condenser mic placed infront of the amps to capture the ambience of the street, then another iphone mic recording the drums (just set on voice recorder), then mix all that together in post on logic with some light compression and EQ to make everything pop, and viola!"
I have watched many reactions to this particular video of The Big Push feat Ren and I have enjoyed the vast majority, Each one provding a different perspective and some providing acute insights, but yours, sir, is the absolute best so far. Thank you. You have a new subscriber.
I think Ren is a “musical shapeshifter” just listen to that Patois! Also, other guitar player is Romain Axisa and he’s 🔥 Please do “War Pigs” cover they did from same live performance. Thx!
Fantastic. Thanks, and happy Rensday! There are maybe 25-30 random TH-cam posts I've found of Ren performing on the street, and each one is fantastic and unique. Last night I watched him play a couple of challenging Nirvana numbers (Heart Shaped Box and Lithium) on his own with just his Telecaster and it was truly stunning. I know you're in it for the long haul, but might I suggest you switch it up with some rap/hip-hop at some point soon as that's a big part of his armory too. I'd suggest "The Hunger" or his brilliant and hilarious ode to the Beastie Boys: "What You Want." But as I'm sure you know by now, you really can't go wrong, whether you pick a street performance, a bardcore original, a speed-rapping clinic, or a Jeff Buckley-style emotional crooner. Cheers!
Haven't seen that yet, but I did see his Foo Fighters one-take retake that was pretty intense. And then I saw him in a Twitch performance playing a crooner's version of Fly Me to the Moon, then beat-boxing to it! I find it ironic that he said, "We must not forget that we are human beings," when in fact he's proving to being an ALIEN being from some musical planet in a distant galaxy. 👽
@Gerald H True! The reality is that most of us don't reach our full human potential. Ren seems to be unusual in that he's willing and able to extend himself as a human being. I was just kind of joking and using "alien" as a metaphor..
Imagine seeing this Live on a street corner - for Free! Got this crowd in the palm of his hand. Now - Imagine this in a huge stadium... ... 'cause that's where this mega-talent belongs. So versatile. He's a true all round artist, from playing multi-instruments to multi-genre- to acting, directing - The Works! Ren's star is on the rise!
The Big Push were just a great band the harmonies and the joy . Ren is a fantastic performer but all respect to Romain, Gordan and Glenn are a magic combo. That kind of chemistry is rare
If you’re curious why the sound in The Big Push's busking videos is really good, here’s some info. Ren does the sound mixing and he explained the process in the comments of one of their videos: _“Line inputs running from each of the busking amps into a H4N recorder. Then the H4N condenser mic placed in front of the amps to capture the ambience of the street, then another iPhone mic recording the drums (just set on voice recorder), then mix all that together in post on logic with some light compression and EQ to make everything pop, and voila! The reason I can get a decent sounding mix from a live session is because I have spent a lot of time working on getting a decent sounding mix from a live session.”_
Absolutely enjoyed this performance and your insight into what on the surface seems like a simple street performance but is so much more. They were tight but made it look loose and lively-just a wonderful combination to watch and hear.
Love the way you do your reactions, very little interruption, just taking it all in and commenting at the end. Some reactors have to say something, with every word, bar or guitar note. Thank you
You're quickly becoming my favourite reaction channel; I really love that you don't pause in order to enjoy the uninterrupted performance. I get that other channels feel the need to stop and comment as they go along but I often feel that they must lose out somewhat on the overall experience. It does help that you have excellent taste / judgement in when to interject without missing anything though! Really cool and intelligent analysis too. 10/10! In terms of Ren, I genuinely think he could be the most important thing to happen to music in decades. His whole approach, talent, attitude, creativity, independence, live performance abilities, not to mention the songwriting, the list goes on. Crazy good and so inspirational. If you're keen for more recommendations I'll give just a few of mine (that I don't think you've done yet), 'How to be Me (Live)' is a song that I honestly wish I could hear for the first time again, so profoundly did it hit me. 'Ocean', 'Humble' and 'Dominoes' are all brilliant and varied shorter tunes. For more Big Push, I absolutely love the 'War Pigs / Paranoid / Crazy Train / RATM' video (shot at the same time as this one). And 'Losing It' and 'Money Game II' I think are my favourite rap tracks of his. 👍
Yes. And i must agree! I get why ppl have to pause a lot, but I appreciate your understanding of how that can interfere with the impact of the first impression u get.. :)
I love how Ren and Romain feel the music! Proper guitarist faces 😂 Also how good they are at bouncing off each other and looking out for nods and hand gestures for cues 🖤
Hey Jeff! Along with a million or so other new fans of Ren, I am loving everything he does as I come across it & wondering where the heck have I been? I have promised myself, I won't continue to binge-watch every Ren reaction all at once (after I initially overdosed on "Hi Ren" reactions for several days & ended up trapped in my own flashback existential crisis, lol 😬). So henceforth I am declaring this kinder, gentler, organic musical discovery period of my life where I take things as they come, my own personal RENaissance, with Ren leading the way (like the freakin' Pied Piper, except with altruistic rather than sinister motives, ha!). His music certainly is immersive & mesmerising! Thanks for your reaction! Also: I'm all in on the idea of being a counterweight to negativity. Finally! My brain's expertise in sabotaging my weight loss efforts for decades becomes meaningful! Win Win! 😂
The other guitar player that you noticed is Romain Axisa, he has his own channel and has been releasing steadily over the last few months as well, check him out on his own.
Awesome reaction as always! I love how Ren throws in jazz style scatting with his vocals. Alot of reactors don't know what he's doing and they think he's actually singing words and they try to figure it out but they never can because it's just him using his voice as an instrument and singing nonsensical syllables and sounds almost like a vocal solo. It's so different and it works whenever he does it. On The Big Push cover of "Wade in the water - Nina Simone - Trouble so hard" He's playing bass on that one and plays it like a lead guitar. But he also does the vocal scatting and it sounds so damn good!
Interesting review. Check out their original The Big Push - Watch Out (live busking). This was just 4 days after they dropped the song and the crowd was already knowledgeable about it and they were really into it! The song gained a lot of traction. It heavily features the guitars.
Check out "Hold On"! It's one of his older releases so tends to be overlooked but it's an absolute masterpiece! It's amongst his absolute best! It's my personal favourite Ren song. Definitely give 'Hold On' a listen. You won't be disappointed. :)
Excellent reaction, I really love that you point out stuff which I have not heard from other reactors to this video - and I've watched many of them since I absolutely love this performance.
Brighton push boys really bring passionate energy to their live show with their own innovative sound. And I get from this song some The Police vibes.! Lots of fun 😂
@Stratele Studios, things I notice! Look at those generic speakers and how good they sound? No Auto Tune there! Same with Ren's voice, it's raw and it's awesome, no Auto Tune. And all of them can play their instruments live!
Love what you do! You strike the perfect balance between simple reaction and analysis/education and your format is perfect (including not pausing much if at all during the video).
even though I don't play music myself, I can tell that Ren is a once in a generation artist. At least one that millions of people are becoming aware of. Your analysis resonates with me and is spot on imo. keep it up
Have yet to see someone point out what I am about to say. He reminds me a bit of Art Garfunkel who was very articulet with his mouth. Ren is doing the same thing all the time, and its just another amazing thing about this man.
Might as well play "watch out" after that then finish off with "paint it black", that's what they did on the day and the crowd were bouncing at the end
I’m working my way through these in the order you watched them, so I don’t know if you’ve made it to his rap videos yet. But you mentioned his fast rap at the and I can’t help but giggle!! If you haven’t heard them yet, you’ll be AMAZED when you do! This fast rap is NOTHING compared to what he’s capable of!

Love your RENsdays! I’ve watched a few reactions to this performance and yours is one of the best. It’s readily apparent that you would have loved to have been there as I would. Ren is a gem and I’ll be here every Wednesday for your reaction. Cheers!
You hit it so well, putting to words what my emotions and intuition were saying about Ren's and The Big Push's performances! I'd seen this performance 832 times (give or take), but have only come to enjoy it more with each viewing.
Thank you for your insights into this performance , I enjoyed hearing the breakdown on how he is engaging the crowd. I've seen a lot and none have approached in this way . Thanks again
Excellent Reaction! The Big Push is impressive, very tight band, they obvious Jam alot together, It would be so cool to wander down a street and hear this vibe. Reminds me a lovely walk in Virginia Beach boardwalk in the 90's and just enjoy a beach town..Peace
In one of the Ren interviews here on TH-cam, Ren mentions that when he was 12 years old he carried his with him everywhere and its very obvious that there's very little that the man can't do on a guitar. Romain is a wonder with a guitar but Ren.... Ren is a generation entertainer, and people are just drawn to him.
For amazing musicians in one group, perfection. This is so wonderful in so many ways love it and so happy you did this one! I would HIGHLY recommend Swansong by then it is touching and beautiful.
Always enjoy your reactions and appreciate your insight! Will you be reacting next week to his song releasing on the 8th? Happy Rensday, and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week!
Totally agree with everything you say about all the changes he makes in one piece making it so captivating and at each stage leaves you wanting more and why we all can't help but keep going back. A great reaction! Thank you
Amazingly well thought out and knowledgeable reaction to this medley by these guys. Although they have split for the time being with Ren undergoing treatment in Canada to attempt to reverse some of the damage done to his brain by his many years of wrongly diagnosed Lyme disease, they have not dismissed the possibility of reconnecting at some time in the future. Romain Axisa has done a number of covers (notably Ray Charles's "Georgia On My Mind", "Blue Moon" by Elvis, "Knocking On Heavens Door" Bob Dylan. Originals he wrote are #1 - "Love Without Feelings"(LIVE!!!!!!!). PLEASE do one from each category; after that I think you'll be hooked, lol.
@@StrateleStudios Having re-read my comment, I realised that I must have been interrupted while writing and I obviously did not finish, given that I only gave the one option for his own songs. So, added to "Love Without Feelings", include "Goodbye Good Days" or "Don't Let Go". All are worth the few minutes it takes to listen, so any will please you I feel.
Ren IS Music!!! Seriously! In my 55 years I've never seen someone like him! Sooo versatile!!! Such a Performer!!! Wow!!!
I'm with you. 59 years old and I've NEVER encountered anyone like Ren. Both as a performer and as a human being.
@staticcentrehalf7166 Agree with Both points!
In with you! I have a good friend who is as "literate" in music, much younger than me... he's a drummer.

I don't know why he reminds me of bowie. Other than that bowie had the same joy in performing that only came across when live.
I'm 60 yrs old and this kid and this whole band really bring that excitement back to music, long time coming ! Stay true to the music guys
"Ren, what music do you like,? Yes, I love music." He surpasses all time and space when it comes to his music. Medieval to EDM, the music flows through him, unapologetically.
Awesome reaction! Glad you commented on the drummer because I think he gets missed a lot👍🔥
Thank you! :) :) :)
As a drummer I second that.
Try bongo bong on the roof

As a GenXer myself,,i honestly LOVE watching GenXers react to Ren......❤
Old guys rule! hahaha than you V! 🤍
Ren looks happy!
I'm in this Ren rabbit hole for a few months. I LOVE him. I shall be back next Rensday x
I can't explain it. Once in a generation or so we are visited by a phenomenon like Ren.
I couldn't agree with you more. This was my favorite by The Big Push. Their performance was so tight. It's interesting to hear your comments.
Hard to choose best with this and War Pigs and also Bongo bong, depends on mood
@@9madness9 A new favorite every day. I wake up with them in earworm version!

His choice of band is what I expected. It's not a band-it's a bunch of artists doing art. Shamelessly.
This is the most informed reaction to this performance that I’ve seen.

Totally agree with everything you say about all the changes he makes in one piece making it so captivating and at each stage leaves you wanting more and why we all can't help but keep going back. A great reaction! Thank you
Thank you Sally! 🤍
Great Stuff J how about some Caroline Polachek?
Great reaction! Love your channel, especially Rensdays! Thanks for supporting Ren and associates. ☮️❤️😎
Thank you so much Terrie! 🤗
Thank you so much! Ya, I need to check this guy out.
Sweety, I remembered this morning it was your 'Rensday', and I felt my heart ship a beat with anticipation.!!! Xx lots of love from 🇬🇧
