Very interesting thank you. I just wish you had explained the actual quantities used of each component and the preparation process for the standard formulas you usually use. Thanks anyway
So, is there any consistency between batches. How do you know developing times. How do you know what the dilutions are. There seems like a lot of variables that could affect the final product. When you look at dilutions like 1:100 Rodinal/water it's still no more expensive than buying the stuff you make it with. It's predictable every time.
Or you could make homemade rodinal with 3 ingredients you could get locally, and then water it down the same. Parodinol made with sodium metabisulphite (can be had from a brewing store), acetaminophen/paracetamol, and Lye (crystal drain cleaner).
Making developers from scratch is safe. There really isnt any health hazards. It is no more dangerous than using normal prepackaged developers. However, there are a few film developing agents like Pyrogallic Acid, Pyrocathechol, and Amidol that are of concern to ones health. The basic developing constituents such as, Hydroquinone, Metol, Phenidone, Sodium Sulfite, Borax, Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Metaborate, and Potassium Bromide are safe to use. Understand that when handling any chemical you should of course read up on their safety. But as I said, homemade developers are safe and fun to use.
@@CraigSheaks Hydroquinone is known to be extremely nasty stuff which is why phenidone is used more now. Metol can also be hazardous to people and you can develop issues with it and no longer tolerate it over time.

My c41 stabillzer started growing shit in it and i dont have more is there eny way to make it at home
isn't stab not needed? i heard from many ppl that it's in the film and you just need to wash it.
Ilford actually owns patents on Phenidone and were the company that created it.
Wasn't that around 1950? It has likely expired.
@@Kitsaplorax nope, it has not expired. Plus it can be renewed. They still legally own it
Nice video, look up the late Barry Thornton on this subject.
is it available in India?
no
I would love doing stuff like this, but any health hazards in long run? seriously I will not drink it & pour in my eyes of course lol.
