- Here's a video of the Alive Black Edition, Defender 90 2.4 HT. Also known as the 'Prindiville' edition.
Built entirely by Lincolnshire based, Alive Tuning, as the ideal 'Tow car for your race car', and was unveiled at the 2012 Autosport International show, where Prindiville first saw our creation. The car has been featured in many magazines, and across the internet, as well as appearing at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and again at the 2013 Autosport International show.
Although this Defender was lavished with a tremendous amount of attention, we valued the finished car at £42,000, with £23,000 of that being for the cost of the base vehicle, and the rest of course on the parts and man hours put in to bring it all together. The £52k price quoted on the feature, was incorrect.

To appeal to Defender fans you can make it more uncomfortable, louder and mess up the ergonomics a bit more it won't matter, just so long as you make it even more tough, reliable and awesome ;)

She just doesn't understand. A Landrover Defender is a manly vehicle for manly men. (and women too) it's designed to be used on farms, it's purely bred for off road, a few screw heads, banging your arm on the door is all part of the Landrover experience and charm!

Would be nice with the Discovery 3 litre diesel engine in it and an automatic gearbox option, now that would be something I'd be interested in, more of a proper G-Wagen rival then !!!

I'd want a lot more for my £52K than that, the wrong car to try an "Overfinch" style upgrade really. Vicky Butler Henderson still looks good for her age though!

always wanted a defender, im trying to save up for one but at the monent £7000 will just buy you one thats 25 years old and in poor condition, i wonder how much a decent 2nd hand one will cost

left school went to work for a land rover dealer in staffordshire as an apprentice.had lots of land rovers. and 2 new ones first one diff broke replaced defender second broke down on the M6 electrical problem. i am 51 years old now and yes i drive a LHD landcruiser 70 series i got from germany. go check out other youtube videos of unhappy owners.

the question is: why would you buy a Defender to drive well on tarmac? A Defender is meant to be driven on rough surfaces...if you want a fast car for paved roads, please don't buy the BEST 4X4XFAR

fucking hell its not a van, and that would never get up a muddy hill i mean look at those shitty road tyres and land rovers where made to be cheap easy to work on 4x4s that had the cappelbiliaty to be a fire engien or a power source for a industreal saw,so what they need to do is to give it a 2inch lift and some real mud tyres or alrounders!

She is not reviewing a 'defender' she is reviewing one that has been tarted up by a tuning company who claim its a drivers car. Clearly it is not which is why she doesn't rate it. If you ask her to review a normal defender for the purpose its made for I'm sure it would be a different story.

We all love a land rover.. correct! but this is totally not worth 52K, what you have here is a pointless Chelsea Tracktor that would be completely useless off road anywhere, okay it can do a small scale river crossing, but thats its limit! not a land rover at all!
Hi Ben! If you read the comments above, it explains the price issue. We put far too much time and attention into the finer details of this car, modifying parts to perfection, even though nobody would probably ever see them! The suspension was completely stripped, powder coated (this was a brand new car remember!), and rebuilt using our own geometry settings with custom SuperPro bushings, custom Bilstein dampers, and our own springs and anti roll bars. The sound deadening made it as quiet inside as my own Range Rover Sport, and only the noisy 2.4L puma engine let it down. Had we gone to this level with a newer 2.2 Defender, then it would have been even more spectacular! Okay, so it was on road tyres in the feature, but shortly afterwards we put the car on all terrain tyres. The restriction for off road use is of course the axle, and that was no lower to the ground than a factory spec Defender. Only the body was lowered 1 1/2" to improve its dynamics on the road.
Alive Tuning Have you ever considered using Chevy crate engines?
Yes, we looked into this in 2010. LS3 crated engines are for nothing, but we considered it to be not worth the investment because very few people would actually buy the conversion.
What's that clean defender doing on the road? Get it off into some mud, christ.
this updated version of Defender is look allot similar to Mercedes G wagon....why buy a remodeled more expensive defender than a luxury but off-road capable G wagon, besides I wish the host was man so i could put more attention to a car than her.
