Concerning the PHASE knob adjustment, you have mentioned in most cases it doesn't matter. You may be right. In some cases makes the world of a difference. I think some amp designers have gone through specific experiences then decide it was actually crucial to put such a knob on every amp they would make. I think in every industry where quality is crucial, there have been are and always be small details which make collosal difference in that particular experience, details understood only by few who have had the pure luck to get it. One of my last experiences in car audio was with the grounds in a car audio system. On the internet there are different opinions on how to ground but never a general idea, you always find different pole opinions. Until you try it yourself. Having a common ground point for all your audio equipment in your car would enable you to enjoy your system how you were supposed to.
Grounds can absolutely make a huge difference. The phase thing is more common to see a difference in mids/highs than in subs. That can absolutely be a huge thing in the upper end of response.

I am surprised you did not mention the tweeter trick when setting the gain. Set up a test tone that is well below a tweeter's high pass crossover. Then hook up the tweeter in parallel with the speakers. Turn up the gain until you hear distortion from the main speakers, or anything at all from the tweeter. This works because the signal will not have any content in the tweeter's pass band, but when clipping occurs anywhere, there will be output from the tweeter. This will smoke out distortion even in head unit line out signals - really handy when doing factory radio upgrades... You can even do this for tweeters. Just get a high sensitivity tweeter and make a 12Db/octive high pass at about 15khz and keep your test tones below 10k. Putting a led in parallel with the tweeter can work too, esp if you can't hear tweeters anymore.
my gains are set to max in every way shape and form on the amplifiers side, however my bass gain on my unit is only set to +2db and it sounds fine up to volume 25-31 (depending on the song) people don't understand that you can turn gains up but run your eq on the radio as you see fit. i do not play into distortion and should i ever smell a speaker (again, certain songs hit that "moar power" spot) i dial it back a bit. i turn my tweeters up as high as possible to compensate but i do need an amp just for them. Great video and deserved 'like'! My previous deck had perfect bass, and now my new more $$ deck has such low bass with the same settings on deck. Should I adjust on amp end?
@@EMFAudio THanks EMF...so if Im using the AMP, i just disable the crossover on the deck in the deck settings, but if im using it at the deck, what should I set the AMP to?
Awesome vid as usually. Question, im trying to tune my rockford 801s. I have it bridged but there is a left and right gain. Which side/gain do i use to adjust the amp. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and keep up the great work
Quick question. I just repaired my Rockford 801s and I'm a little lost as to when it's bridged and should I adjust both gain knobs or simply one of them thanks
The owners manual should tell you, but one way to tell is to bridge it then adjust 1 knob, then the other knob. If nothing changes when you turn one of them then no it wont' matter. If it changes when you do both, then yes, you do need to adjust both.
Passive means nothing is changed from input to output, that is literally the definition of passive, passing signal. If there was nothing come out, there would be no reason to have it, because it would do nothing.
That should also cause the fuse to blow, hopefully quicker than the protection on the amp. That kind of short usually kills a power supply before protect can do anything.
so could I use the bass boost to help a sag in a bandpass? like say it's tuned to peak at 35hz and 55hz, but the sag was in the middle, could you technically get rid or at least midigate the drop (within reason of mechanical limits of course)?
If there was a quality unit (similar to the deh-80prs) putting out 6-9 volts could this voltage being clean produce more power?I know the amp can. Put out rated at 0.2-6 volt input but if u have a clean 7-8 volt input would the amp distort it just because of the input voltage being so hi?
The only way it could actually be producing more than 6v is if it was balanced outputs, which few are, and the amp would have to be balanced in as well. If you go over 6v you can fry the preamp on the amp. It doesn't just turn into a bad signal, it's like sending too much voltage into the power supply, it fails. That being said, a clean signal in, be it 0.2v or 6v does not produce more power. The setting is to match the signal to achieve maximum power output capability.
@@EMFAudio ty for the response, I have never seen a radio with a balanced output before seen the plugs on some amps but never seen any be interested to c the pros and cons
@@1-Six-dee I haven't seen any modern units with balanced outputs, I've seen some processors that do though. The only projected potential advantage is reduction of noise. With how RCA's have changed that isn't really an issue, which is probably why you don't see it anymore.
Impedance is dynamic, that changes in a magnetic field. I think you're thinking of resistance. To answer your question, resistance difference isn't what will effect performance. CCA can't handle the current OFC can. So, as long as you aren't exceeding the current capabilities of the CCA wire, you won't see a difference. If you exceed it's limitations, yes, you will see a difference.

Gain matching and phase matching of multiple amps on an oscilloscope with no load and then with subs wired video? Possible termlab scores for comparison. Test A: Gain matched only with no load Test B: Gain and Phase matched no load Leave gain and phase settings as is and wire subs. Test C: adjust gains if necessary with amps under load. Test D: adjust phase if necessary with amps under load.
The tricky part to that is having a vehicle with multiples of the same amps and multiple subs to benefit from phasing. I don't personally own anything that would be able to properly demonstrate that.
Yes and no. Yes you could do it, up until the maximum voltage of the amp. So in the case of these amps having a maximum of 6v, you could use the speaker level made into an RCA jack as long as you didn't exceed 6v. Over that could/would damage the amp.
@@FLYGUYFOX Nooooooo don't wire batteries in series. That will add voltage to each one you do. So unless you're replacing 2 batteries in an RV that runs on 24v, don't do that. Parallel only.
@@FLYGUYFOX Putting two 12v batteries in series will have the capacity of 1 battery but increase voltage to 24+v which you can't charge and will likely blow up your amp instantly.

Alphasonik makes better car audio products than EMF and Alphasonik just recently got their business back up and going again after being closed for several years. Think about that when you can't sleep tonight.... Alphasonik is far superior to EMF, FACTS.
Good day sir, wish you nothing but the best.
Great explanation or better yet education!
Is it ok that Im watching this on Saturday? 🤔
My amp gain only goes to 5v, my dsp puts out 6v. Is that going to work right?
Great video and deserved 'like'! What Im trying to understand is.....do you set the crossover on the amp, THEN set the decks crossover to 'match' the amp with a slight overlap or do you let the amp frequencies fully flow through and fine tune at the deck?
My previous deck had perfect bass, and now my new more $$ deck has such low bass with the same settings on deck. Should I adjust on amp end?
You should use one or the other, not both.
@@EMFAudio THanks EMF...so if Im using the AMP, i just disable the crossover on the deck in the deck settings, but if im using it at the deck, what should I set the AMP to?
@@PhatDimes If there was a "set the amp to this" answer, there wouldn't be settings to change on the amp to start with.
I have Sony amp 1200w, 2 speakers 120w rms (each) and 1 sup 380w rms..
How to tune the right voltage with multimeter please
Awesome vid as usually.
Question, im trying to tune my rockford 801s. I have it bridged but there is a left and right gain. Which side/gain do i use to adjust the amp.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks and keep up the great work
I found those to be odd, I used one once. Move the gain knobs and see if one or both does something. That should answer it.
@@EMFAudio both work but one more than the other.
Weird right. .
I get mixed messages in fakebook but you know how that goes😕😕🥑
@@heathentheheretic4909 I rely little on what people tell me and all on what I test myself.
On the 4 channel amp,. Channes 1,2,3,and 4,. Correspond to which speakers location on the car?.
Whatever you choose them to be. They just need to match your signal input.
They are not passive, they are low powered signal. Passive means there are no electricity coming out of them.
Passive means nothing is changed from input to output, that is literally the definition of passive, passing signal. If there was nothing come out, there would be no reason to have it, because it would do nothing.
@@EMFAudio you are righ I was thinking instruments and live sound speakers.
If the power and ground wires touch each other and short out the power and ground cause a car amplifier protection led to turn on
That should also cause the fuse to blow, hopefully quicker than the protection on the amp.
Presuming your bass boost was 45 hz and you had an actual peak at 35 and 55, yes. Just because it's tuned there doesn't mean it WILL have peaks there.
But can bass bost introduce cliping at such given, frequency??
@@brookeleimgruber860 It absolutely can. That's one of the reasons you should never use it more than a couple dB boost if ever.
I was wondering if using ofc for power to your amplifier and cca for ground would cause a issue?Or would it cause to much impedance change?
Impedance is dynamic, that changes in a magnetic field. I think you're thinking of resistance. To answer your question, resistance difference isn't what will effect performance. CCA can't handle the current OFC can. So, as long as you aren't exceeding the current capabilities of the CCA wire, you won't see a difference. If you exceed it's limitations, yes, you will see a difference.
Yes you are right I was thinking of residences . so with 4 runs of power 1/0 cca and 4 runs of ground 1/0 cca,I should be okay on a American Bass VFL COMP 5k?
@@joebelton2146 2 runs of 1/0, what the amp actually takes in, would be sufficient. It's a 5k amp, not a 10k amp.
If you were to remove the fuses on the car amplifier itself will the car amplifier still work or does it need the fuses for it to work
It wouldn't work.
I thought ya use the subsonic only for inverted lol I keep it turned down always mmhh
Inverted or not makes no difference on how the sub behaves other than inverted you have a small amount more box volume.
I think your thinking of phase
Probably just out of phase but turned down as in the lowest hz won't hurt any, actually maybe save your sub from damage
Subsonic should around 20..
Do you still adjust the subsonic filter in say a sealed enclosure?
If you wanted to you could.
Quick question can dirt liquids and debris ruin the paint job and the finish on the car amplifier itself
Amps typically aren't painted, they're anodized. Anything abrasive or corrosive will.
Isn't subsonic switch for if you are using ported enclosures
No. What if you were tuned to say, 20 hz? That subsonic filter could potentially filter above your tuning.
My mid and high amp start at 120Hz to 3kHz. My subwoofer amp is set to 80Hz. Where should my mid and high be set at ?
You can only high pass starting at 120 hz? That is not optimal. Does your headunit have crossovers in it?

Gain matching and phase matching of multiple amps on an oscilloscope with no load and then with subs wired video? Possible termlab scores for comparison.
Test A: Gain matched only with no load
Test B: Gain and Phase matched no load
Leave gain and phase settings as is and wire subs.
Is it dangerous to pass speaker level input through rca inputs of an amp if it cant allow high level input
Yes and no. Yes you could do it, up until the maximum voltage of the amp. So in the case of these amps having a maximum of 6v, you could use the speaker level made into an RCA jack as long as you didn't exceed 6v. Over that could/would damage the amp.
Curious...if I have 4 12's that are 100 ems each would the 4ch be a good choice for them??
Yes, that would actually work out pretty well. I've got 2 in stock I can ship immediately.
Quick question can you mix AMG batteries meaning different sizes amp hours if so how can I hook it up
Yes, Ah doesn't mean anything in terms of battery compatibility.
@@EMFAudio so I will still hook it up the same parallel and series
@@FLYGUYFOX Nooooooo don't wire batteries in series. That will add voltage to each one you do. So unless you're replacing 2 batteries in an RV that runs on 24v, don't do that. Parallel only.
@@EMFAudio it's for my car amplifier I have to hook up a parallel & series wanted to ask you more increase the voltage
@@FLYGUYFOX Putting two 12v batteries in series will have the capacity of 1 battery but increase voltage to 24+v which you can't charge and will likely blow up your amp instantly.
So I heard you can damage a car amplifier by mounting it to a subwoofer enclosure is this true if so how does the car amplifier get damaged and what happens to the car amplifier when it gets damaged from being mounted to a subwoofer enclosure
It is possible. Solder joints can break which can cause larger failures. Board traces can fail too.

Why do some people use a car amplifier to power car door speakers
..... in a car?
Will Subsonic filter cancel out the low pass because its lower hz
If you set it wrong, yes. Remember, subsonic is a high pass so if you set it to 20 hz and the low pass to 80 hz, that will be full signal from 20-80 hz. Now if you set the subsonic to 50 hz and the low pass to 50 hz, yes, it would absolutely kill the signal.
Think of the subsonic filter as a saftey limit on how low your subwoofer will play.
@@EMFAudio thanks for quickly responding love tec Tuesday keep up the good work
It's a cut off point to where the sub or any other speaker won't play below that range. Like a high pass but for low end of spectrum
Does anyone know what the displacement is in cubic feet for the banhammer 15?
0.2
