My mother in law has dementia and type1 diabetes and lives with us at home. Keeping close track of her blood sugar is literally life and death. Her diabetes monitor only has a max range of 20 feet. When she walks out of range, it take half an hour to reconnect the devices. This can be pretty risky if she has a sudden drop or spike in blood glucose levels. So my family is constantly chasing her around the house with the monitor. It would be a huge peace of mind if this little guy could follow her around the house with the monitor strapped to it. It would also be awesome to help monitor her in case of an emergency.
Imagine a future where Astro, ADT(or Ring for that matter) and Amazon come together to become a home assistant, add arms and legs and uhhh, are we in the future?

I'm surprised at its lack of better than Alexa conversation. I would have thought that making a robot that's virtually conversational would be a much desired feature. Especially for the current price of it.

I got mine to help keep my grandma company and add some entertainment to her routines especially when I am at work. I can tell you now though, the features at this point are not worth more than intro price. Also the early buyers are practically tester to improve it. We can, just not at a consumer price. For example, Spot from Boston Dynamics can do everything you just asked for Astro to do... for about 12,000-20,000 dollars depending on what else you get with it.
My comment on the Astro reveal from 6 months ago: In 5 years will we have robots in our homes? Amazon: yes everyone: why? Amazon: because we want to build a robot and its going to take 5 years to find a reason when big companies have endless budgets they don't need to worry about product-market fit, so they don't. A lot of useless stuff ensues.

For $1,000, the least it should have is a vacuum and automatic emptying at the charging station. A new product needs to be able to replace an old one, so you shouldn't need both this and a vacuuming robot rolling around your house, it should do both functions.
Reviewer seemed biased against Astro from the beginning. Like she wanted him to fail. Though not perfect, it gives a great development direction on what home robots can do and even as a surveillance robot it adds great value. Being able to see and informed when an intruder enters your home, and checking if a door or stove is closed/turned off is invaluable. Cheers Astro! You have a home waiting here for ya! 👍🏼
