- Please join me as I prospect a potential ancient creek bed that’s on my property!
I’ve had my eyes on this for years and finally decided today is the day to break ground!
This is the first video in a multi-part series where I’ll document my research and testing of an ancient creek bed. Help me decide if I’m on to something or just wasting my time.
I hope you enjoy the video and hopefully you can learn something like I did during the process. And lastly… let’s just have some fun!

Cobbles! thanks for the share! stay awesome!
Ramses! Thanks brother! I’ll try my best! Hope things are going well with you. Keep rockin’
Great day out there fam. I have three more Panner here for you 😂. Spread out us out fam. We'll help you find that au. Even if it takes all day. keep on having fun getting that au and living the dream. Gold Squad Out!!!
Hey man! Dude I just may enlist some help here soon. I’m still in the early stages of this, but this could be great! I’ll let you know and you’ll see the updates. I’d love to go deeper when the weather gets better. It friggin snowed today! I’m like done with this crap already!
SENDIT 🚀🚀🚀🤣💨🇺🇸
🤟🤘 thanks brother! I’m really trying to send it! 🤣🤣
Suggestion:Start at your first hole, and dig Toward the creek, testing as you go😉👍
Thanks for that. I’m going to start going towards the hillside (only a feet feet away) and then work towards the creek. It’s a great little spot
Stoney! Your back yard is awesome! I’m really jealous. I hope you find a hot streak on that creek! 💪💪
Thanks brother! I appreciate that! Yea it’s great here and I’m very lucky. I still need to open that hole up. Life’s always gets in the way for me!
3:28... you're on it bro! Hope you hit it! 🙏🏻
Thanks dude! Yea it’s getting better and I have some big plans for that spot. Just hoping it pans out and I recover more gold. If not, I’m just digging a big hole :)
Stoney Right On that's a given, wouldn't hurt to take a post hole digger up the far side. Take samples every so often. You may find a even older bench. Thanks for sharing, bring on part 2 😆
HZ!!! You may be on to something! I don’t want to give anything away, but yea… I’ve found more things I need to investigate. Pretty neat stuff. Thanks again!
Looks like an awesome time coming
Hey Dave! Thanks brother! Yea I’ve been working that spot pretty hard now and I’m on to some exciting ground :)
serpentine, green rock, love it. Skagit County, Deception Pass area.
That’s what it is! I knew I heard that before and yes. I believe that’s it. Well I’ve always had luck with serpentine and gold! Thanks again Madline Rose! Very cool of you 😎
I like how this is all progressing
Me too Joe! I haven’t been working on this in over a month and a half but have plans to get on it again and see where it takes us. I’ve been way to busy with other house projects and such, thus giving me a break from prospecting. But as soon as I get back on it, I’ll post and update and we’ll both see how I do. Thanks again for the engagement and positive vibes. You are what makes this community so great 😎
I love these clay and loam barrier layers.
Unfortunately we can't think as lazily as gold lol.
At what depth has it settled.
But finding out is the exciting thing about our hobby. Well done, Stoney 🤠⚒👍
Thanks brother! Yea this is pretty cool and I’m pretty excited to see where this goes. If the gold never ends up being there in large amounts, that’s ok, I guess then I have a small swimming hole to jump into :) take care my friend!
Hey STONEY! You have to prospect to find the gold? 🤣🤣Great stuff! I appreciate you taking us through the process of finding gold in that ancient creek bed! You are definitely not wasting your time! Any day on the creek is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Have a fantastic week!
Thanks Cason! Always happy when you come by. Yea it’s fun and I’m mostly enjoying something new! Hopefully it pans out! You take care as well and I hope you had a fantastic Easter!
Your day is very interesting
Appreciate that and thank you my friend. I hope you have a great day!
Great video stoney 🤙🏽👊🏽 awesome find stay blessed braddah mahalo for sharing this adventure with us
Thanks brother! I appreciate you! A ton!
Looks like your on to something! Regardless how cool is it to step outside in dig when you feel like it! Love it!
Yea it great. I’m blessed and I need to remind myself that constantly. I’m having fun, learning about geology and my property and finding some gold. And if I don’t strike it rich (which I won’t) then I guess I’ll have myself a big hole that I can make a little swimming hole :) 🤣🤣🤣
Great test on that side of the creek
Thanks. It’s going to be a project for a while 🤣
I was drooling just looking at the layers in those holes. I would be testing each layer. I agree about the green rocks and gold. They also seem a lot heavier than normal rocks. I'll be following you hitting this spot for sure.
PNW Goldrushers! Thank you! Yea the layers are so awesome and there’s definitely more to come. It’ll be a slower process but we’ll get to the bottom of it. I plan on excavating this area. Yea and those green rocks and gold, they go hand and hand. I’ve always found the 2 together. And yea they are fairly dense. Thanks again! Appreciate the support :)
Definitely old river channel materials. The rocks wouldn’t be rounded if not.
Hey man! Yea I agree! I really want to go up the hillside and dig a hole and see if there is gravels and rounded rocks 8 inches down. If there is, then I think my ancient river bed may be glacial till (is that how you spell till) we’ll anyway. We’re just gonna keep diggin and see where it takes us. Thanks again brother :)
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser , I look forward to seeing what you do brother.
Great upload.... Agreed 💯 "research is key". I'd rather see relatable research than rare over hyped results.
Thanks dude. This is my first actual research of my property and I’m having fun with it because I have no actual idea what I’m doing or what I’ll find. Yea I know there’s gold in my creek and I recently found some pretty good gold, but I’m going to keep that for my rainy day gold because I know it’s not going anywhere, especially with summer coming. This other spot is new and different and I’m learning a lot about my property which is really cool. And if I don’t hit it, then that’s ok. I guess I just made myself a little swimming hole which is cool too :)
Id definitely dig that whole flat area... It's changed hundreds of times since it's existence.. lol
Oh I plan on it. Shoot, with how much digging I plan on doing, I may force the creek back over that spot! 🤣🤣🤣
Weather sounds like Washington weather... Lol
GoldMinerMike! Ain’t that the truth! 60’s last week, and had snow this morning. It’s that time of year for sure! Thanks for coming by!
Maybe the top 6 inches of gravel below the top soil would be worth trying
Hey man! It sure is. That’s my part 2 in new spot. I’m getting more gold. I just need to find the right spot, which is hard when I don’t know where the creek goes. Testing testing testing.
Hope you're doing well, Jon. I lived out in Washington for about 7 years and did quite a bit of hiking. The background of all your home-related videos looks a lot like the forests near Darrington. I'm not asking for your home address by any means, but just seeing the scenery in the backgrounds of your videos make me miss my time in WA. Roughly, where are you in Washington, if you don't mind me asking.
Dan! Dude, everything has been great and I really hope it has been for your too. It’s been a long time! Yea the PNW landscapes can be very unique. The ferns and trees are a deal giveaway. I don’t think I’ve even visited Darrington but it sounds like it’s in the northern part. I’m near Olympia and more towards the coast where it rains allllll ooooooof tttttthe tttttime! Hahaha. You know how it is being here for 7 years. Honestly though, it’s been a great place to live and I’ve enjoyed my time here calling it home. Anyhow, super glad you can follow me on my little TH-cam adventure and it was great catching up a bit. I hope to stay in touch and hope you have a great week :) thanks again Dan! Great hearing from you :)
Just one more thing. That horizontal tree behind you, is old and is typical of what you would see of a tree that was undermined by a creek or river. That looks like the old creek path for sure.
You know I thought the exact same thing, but thought the creek bed would be too old and the tree too young for that to happen, but I can be completely wrong. There’s other trees along that hillside too that do the same thing, so yea, I’m with ya 1000%.
Good luck boss get that gold 4 pieces of gold is better than no gold
Thanks David! Any maybe those 4 pieces will turn into 6, then 10, then ??? I’m excited! I may find a lot, or just have a big hole! 🤣🤣🤣 Either way, I’m having fun, learning about my property and finding some gold. 😎
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser you got an awesome piece of land hope you hit the honey hole
I want to see an excavator and a wash plant!
Lol! I’m half tempted myself. I can tell you for a fact that it’s gonna be a big hole, will there be gold, I’m sure, but don’t know how much yet. I know it’s in there and I think the deeper I go the better it may get. Regardless, it’s fun, easy digging, and I’m learning about my property. And if I miss the spot, then I guess I made myself a little swimming hole :)
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser don’t stop till you hit bedrock
@@graveyardprospecting you really think I’ll find bedrock there? I mean it’s possible, hmmm… I’ll keep going. Not stopping!
I'm glad you're NOT a "rock" guy. I'm not either. But I watch a lot of prospectors and it comes with the territory, and I watch to support. But know nothing about rocks. Sometimes they find a cool looking rock, but in the end if they said "you want a bucket of these", or in some paydirt. Um,.... no. All rocks, even if I think they look cool are always unidentified and thrown into a bowl. I'm only interested in 1 rock, gold. Enjoyed this adventure. Is it an "ancient" river bed. I'd say old but not ancient per say but to it not being deep before finding gravels. But, those are river rocks, so your definitely on the right track. Really kind of expected a little gold in that clay layer. Nobody should ever have to pan through clay without finding gold, it just needs to be made part of the deal.
Awesome prospect!
Same
Wheezin’ my brother! Thanks for the great comment and watching the video. Yea I think you’re spot on. I think it’s old, but not too old, but I honestly think, the further I go down it may get more interesting, so we’ll just have to find out. And that green rock I found that I find gold with most times. Someone pointed out that it’s serpentine. Which I remember hearing from someone before but you know me… I’ll forget tomorrow. The gold is what I seek! And yea, I thought for sure the clay would have something in it. Maybe I just panned it wrong. Well either way, we’re doing it and going deeper and bigger. I’m really liking this adventure too. Thanks again man. You’re awesome!
Heck yeah, you nailed it !
ONE MILLION (dramatic pause) YEARS (forgot about the pinky to cheek)! 😮
Try a topography map; then reverse it by guessing water/flood erosion. I'm sure there's a way. Think your on to something by test holes.
Just wondering if you are going to continue to actual bedrock.
Don't get too caught up...your wife might not like an excavator out there😂 👊🍻
Hey Rich! Yea this is fun and I’m just rolling with this. I have ideas and plans and actually want to go kind of big on this because I do believe something is down there. If there’s bedrock, I’ll try and find it (safely of course). I’ve never heard of a picker coming from this whole area and I would love to find one. Maybe one’s buried in all of that dirt from 1000’s or years ago? Or I get skunked and just end up having a swimming hole! Either way, it’s a win!
Win win brother
Man id just set up a high banker. Granted we can't do that but your on your own property not like anyone gonna stop by know what I mean. Deff find hella color
Dude I want to so bad. And you’re right. It’s my property. There no difference with me running a high banker on my driveway versus where I’m at now. It’s the same distance from the creek. 🤣🤣🤣
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser I think of you can just do it lol. These laws are so dumb now. I actually messaged the edge and asked them questions about these things. I'm like when will we be able to run high bankers and dredges again. I pointed out we clean the trash and muck from the creeks. Dredging we provide holes for juvenile fish to escape harsh currents. They just left me on read lol. Mean at least make it legal during the summer after fish hatch.
It seems to me the question is not how long it takes clay to form, but how long it takes the creek to deposit a layer.
Hey Gordon! I didn’t even think about that, that’s a good play on words and it makes sense. It does interests me and I’m looking to find out those answers once I get back on that spot. Life just got really busy for me and couldn’t make it back down there. Super appreciate the comment and giving me something else to think on :)
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Clay is a fairly broad term that mainly refers to particle size. The time it takes to form would depend on the mineral content, for instance, a silica rich granite would take a very long time to weather down to clay compared to limestone. If you can determine whether your clay is decomposed bedrock or a deposit from a major flooding event (possibly after a forest fire or heavy logging?), it could help you figure out the geology there. By the way, those greenish rocks probably contain chlorite or epidote, and can be a good indicator. Unfortunately, you don't know where the rock came from, so you're just going to have to take note when you see them.
@christineedwards4865 dang Christine! You know sure know your stuff! Yea I have no idea at all. To me it seems like it’s been there for a while but that’s a a guess and it’s my best guess! Hahha. I super appreciate your comments. They’re as good as gold :)
I think you got to go deeper!
🤔.... maybe
I think your right Josh. I’m gonna keep digging. I have a good feeling about this! Thanks again Josh. Appreciate the support!
Seems to be like swan creek gold.. it's got random pockets of gold.. hmmm..
It does. On the creek now. I can try a spot and get nothing, then another and get a few specks, and on my last good trip I almost got a gram and then a tenth of a gram a few days later. So it’s definitely there. And if it’s there, it can be in the “ancient” creek bed. Doesn’t hurt to try and explore something new :)
Inside bank
I think so, but I could be in the middle… 🤔 I really just have to keep digging. 🤣
The odds that that creek once ran through the area you're digging was once part of the creek are 100,%, Bro'🧐 God bless and Git Dat Gooold 🤪🍀🦾⛏️🪠🎯😎🇺🇸
Thanks Lester! Yea it’s either a creek bed or glacial till? I’m going deeper and onto more discoveries so we’ll see. I know there’s gold in my creek. That’s my rainy day good for now, but I’m off to a new discovery. I want to see how this pans out! Thanks again.
