      I started it, got half way through the first act of the game, dropped it and had intentions to finish it, then I just kinda forgot about it tbh. But SON, I’m so juiced to see that you made us a video on this game. I literally said aloud “DUDE” when you dropped this! Thanks for the smiles and the genuinely good takes on all these games. I quite enjoyed your Silent Hill complete retrospective as well! Hope you keep on grinding and knocking out these videos! We will be patient as ever Son, take your time like you’ve been doing, you’re doing great!

    I loved this game, the thing I liked the most was the narrative, TBH I don't really care a lot about most games unless the story is interesting and this one hook me instantly. The thing I loved the most about the game was how the mixed the "mini series" between nodes, the cast was super good and very well translated into the in-game characters.

    Many of Remedy's games could be described as a bit janky in places. But if you can just move past the jank they are experiences for sure. I have played games that controlled better, had better mechanics, better shooting and felt great at the time of playing.... but most of them I have forgotten. Alan Wake, Quantum Brake... those I still remember.
    Also, the number of Remedy games that could actually have the potential to make really good movies it pretty staggering :)

      That’s why I always seemed to love Remedy’s games more than others they have gameplay styles and storytelling that fits my niche but I can understand why some people might not get into those types of games because it requires the player to pay attention to certain things that’s happening in the story otherwise you’ll be confused and the gameplay can be janky once in awhile but not so bad that it ruins my immersion in the world building and universe they set up

    There's also a prophecy twist that's easy to miss. Paul knows the little oopsie caused by Will's interference at the start causes a fracture, but the end of time comes years after his foreknowledge of events ends and he simply assumed that _this_ fracture is _the_ fracture that causes the end of time. Nothing says it couldn't be fixed only for another fracture to happen years later, leading to the end of time he saw. He never cottons on to this mistake, so this is why various Monarch-affiliated characters make comments about how the stutters are happening way faster than they expected and why Paul ultimately 'has' to activate the lifeboat protocol early; they'd all assumed the fracture would progress very slowly and take years to lead to the end of time, but that's not the way it works; a fracture leads to the end of time in just a couple of days. And so we come to 48:10, where it must be possible to change things because they just did... except no, they didn't. Jack and Will using the countermeasure to fix the fracture is simply another part of the closed loop. They were always meant to fix the fracture, they always do and always did fix the fracture... _this_ fracture. There's another one coming, and they haven't truly changed the future.
    I really liked this game and it's sad we'll probably never get a sequel, although admittedly some of that is it's simply interesting comparing it to other time travel stories. In some ways it feels like it's Legacy of Kain but heavily compressed; you'd half-expect the sequel to reveal that it's possible to make changes by bringing the same object or person into close proximity with it/themself in a different time period. It's almost deliberately the antithesis of Back to the Future, most time travel stories do the opposite of that and establish stable time loops as having always happened, whereas in BttF there is a "first" instance of someone going back in time and the loop didn't exist beforehand, but the extreme that Quantum Break takes it to is noteworthy, right down to how they don't even use the phrase "stable time loop" and instead say "it must be a closed loop."

      I think it is more likely that the countermeasure did not fully work as intended and merely slowed down and post-poned the effects of the Fracture. Will flat-out tells Beth-from-the-future at some point that if the End of Time ever occured, it would mean that they failed and that the Fracture was never stopped. Also, the countermeasure had been opened at least once before (maybe even a second time when Dr Kim was turned into a shifter), and, as such, it is entirely possible that it did not function as intended even with Jack "jump-starting" it. Will also shows a lot of uncertainty over whether or not it actually worked in the final scene.

    "I was in a dark place, and there was a dark man there. His name was Mr. Door, and he told me that there are many worlds - side-by-side, on top of each other, some inside of others. In one world, there was a writer who wrote a story about a cop. In another world, the cop was real. Door said he himself was in all of them at the same time, endlessly shifting between them."
    I was late to the Quantum Break party, having written it off at the time due to lack of interest and complaints of technical issues, but picked it up when I wanted to prepare for Control. I was glad I eventually picked it up though, I really liked the story and the characters and the time mechanics were fun. It's not a 10 out of 10 but it's definitely worth picking up.

    the thing is Paul really isn't a villain, just a person that lost hope and thinks that nothing can be done and just wants to save the few people that he can in his lifeboat and thinks that Jack's actions will sabotage it
    you can push him to be more ruthless with the junction decisions and his desease makes him more crazy by the end, but it's not like he wants the time to stop or has some other evil plan

    • @AyoubProds
      @AyoubProds 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      correct! if you think about, both Jack and Paul are protagonists in this narrative, they both want the same thing which is stopping the fracture and saving the world but each one has a different way to achieve that contradicts the other. And if you think about it even more, the only potential villain in this story is Martin Hatch, he's the only one who was sabotaging Paul and Monarch and he wanted to sabotage the lifeboat protocol, his agenda regarding why he wants the end of time to happen is unclear but there's a note near the end of the game written by him where he describes that he feels good and clear-headed during time stutters (the only zones where shifters can exist) and I didn't full realize that he was a shifter until this video noted that, which kind of explains his motives, but I'm personally still unsure of he's true intention he's such a mystery.

    Something I just noticed is that the AWE in Alan Wake happened in 2010, while the Fracture happens in 2013. So unless the TV production company shot the show and waited almost 4 years to broadcast it that means at some point between Alan Wake had to have left the Dark Place. Either that or the Alan Wake we see in the trailer for the show "Return" isn't even Alan at all, because in Control they FBC has notes stating that Alan Wake hasn't been sighted in nearly a decade, and makes no reference to the show. Which honestly I'm gonna just chalk up to a story writing goof cause when you involve time travel in a shared universe shit just gets totally fucked.

    I just played Quantum Break and can't fathom why people think the logic behind this game works. The future I created himself by going back into the past, and it is so funny when people say how good the Remedy did by sticking to the logic of "past can't be changed". In the game what was the original past? If there isn't one it means he wouldn't be in the past if he wasn't in the past and he always being in the past is just illogical. If there is one then he somehow changed the past which is not only illogical but also contradicts the whole idea that the past can't be changed.

    I finally finished watching this. Just a few comments. I think the junctions are more interesting than they seem. Perhaps a sub par execution but once it clicks for you, it clicks. Paul is an antagonist, but not a bad person. His larger goal is the same as Jack's, prevent the end of, well, everything even time itself. What each of yhe characters think they know, their assumptions about the things they have seen, that is what changes thus changing how they go about trying to address the end of it all. So when playing him, the choice should be less about doing the choice as paul or for convenience, but actually more about what you think could help save the world somehow. Because that is what william would do, jack would do, and monarch would do, and paul would do. Just pharsed by what one knows.
    But it is also a clear indication that changing bug thujgs might be hard, lot of work needs to be done... but not impossible. The first one where you chose tonkill someone or not is that clue. That choice is very much a drastic change to one person's life, literywether it continues and so does her ability to contribute to any future events after that point - small in comparison to whooe world and hjiverse, but big to her own self world and still major forhe microcosmos of friends and family and the people she interact ls daily, or would have done so if she lives. To me, this symbolizes that Paul's "great men" approach to history is just false, that is him or Beth or anyone else trying the "I alone will change it all in one single trip to the past" approach sees time as immutable. A single person on a handful of trips, no matter gow "great" the person, will still only have the impact of one person doing a few trips in a world of billions of lives shaping history and each other all at once all the time. That is not gonna cut. You a collective approach, or at least a whole more lotta jumps to the padt... or both.

    Games like Ryse Son of Rome, Driveclub, The Order 1886, and Quantum Break, will never exist anymore because of the media killing the games when they release. 23:53 "and we have an incredibly tense sequence"
    24:18 "the actions sequences are shot pretty poorly"
    You contradict yourself a lot. The jump from the game AND the live action videos(stop calling it a show, they are cutscenes), ARE jarring. The visual disconnect and how MOST of the characters from the cutscenes arent even IN the game, creates a weird disconnect. I was a BIG remedy fan. I was very keen on alan wake, especially at a time where open world werent common place and ended up being burned. I still gave them a chance with this one and they blew it so fucking hard. There is so much to be said about how this game doesnt work.
    Its a bad game that does not hold up to scrutiny AT ALL, and they need to be called out of trying to branch out and do other things. IT DOESNT WORK.
    Its not even a question of budget. The art sucks, the world made no sense. I bought max payne when it came out, i never even watched a control trailer. This game sucks.

    I played Quantum Break on launch, if was a really fun ride that I loved from begining to end, and I have a really special place in my heart for this game.
    I wish MS actually partnered with remedy to not only continue this story but also to bring QB elements to the AW franchise.
    Mr Door and Tim breaker are great references but I wish we could see Hatch and Jack in it.

    Still the only remedy game I haven’t finished. It’s currently unplayable on game pass due to an absolutely game breaking lighting glitch that hasn’t been patched. Love the channel ❤

    Call me someone with a broken left bumper (because i am) but the final boss is just straight up annoying, i love a challenge but red time balls which kills you if you don’t run fast enough is ridiculous

    Interesting how they brought back Actress Courtney Hope the one who plays Beth in the game and brought her back in the next game Control as the main character Jessie Faden even though Remedy likes to keep every game connected or almost in the same unverse.

    Kind of sucks that they made you have to read the notes to understand the full story as most people would not read those because generally in other games the notes is just bonus information.

    It's one of those games I've seen people play from start to finish but I couldn't tell people anything about it. It just...exists.
    It doesn't even fit well into Remedy's own narrative universe, given the worldbuilding Control set up connecting it to Alan Wake.

  • @BangerangEliko
    @BangerangEliko 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When it comes to Remedy games, we need to remember is where they shine is narrative and their shared universe. Cam Rogers btw wrote a novelization of the game to flesh out the stuff that got cut out. [which im planning to narrate since no audiobook exists]

    I'm really glad that you explained that there wasn't a TV show for this because I have been avoiding the game until I could find the show so that I would have some way to at least try to understand the plot since I figured it would involve separate dimensions or time travel from the title.

  • @Mick2K
    @Mick2K ปีที่แล้ว

    I really liked the game despite it's flaws. It's more than the sum of its parts.
    The gameplay is a basic third person shooter with cool powers, the plot is nothing special and Sometimes makes no sense (like all time travel plots) and the real life show is on a CW level but as a whole all these parts make a special game that deserves to be remembered.

    I liked this game.
    I checked my achievements and it seems I have all but one which is fish the game on hard.
    If you like time manipulation, give it a chance. Also this game did it right trying to avoid pitfalls connected to manipulating time.
