    When I was little I was very curious about the extension port on my sega genesis (I was today years old when I found out the intended use of it) and I noticed the pins (size wise) matched my chinese bootleg nes. So 8 old me tried inserting it to my bootleg NES connecting bot system to power. It ended up smoking my bootleg NES and because Sega survived my experiment it became my main console.

      Oh no! I bet 8 year old you wad pretty bummed out at losing the bootleg NES, but that's part of experimenting and growing up! 😊 Thanks for watching, happy to hear the video was helpful

    Really cool video! I've yet to get a Sega CD, but I've always been interested in it and how it attaches to the different genesis models. Thanks for making a guide that's so concise and informative. I guess I know how to set it up now, for future reference lol

      I had been using the RF audio only until I realized the advantage of the AV out with the mixer cable and wanted to share - some of these old "tricks" have been forgotten with time! Thanks for watching, more Sega CD content ahead 👍

      @@SvennyMcG I went my entire childhood with only the RF audio lol. So may games I missed certain parts of the sound and just though it was a bad unit. Like in Bram stokers Dracula I couldn’t hear any audio during the FMV cut scenes.

      Oh man, that's heartbreaking! I didn't have one but my buddy did, I enjoyed the FMV clips but when he had the same game - like Mortal Kombat on Sega Genesis cartridge and Sega CD - I couldn't understand why we were suddenly sitting through load times 😅
      Still don't know why the Sega CD couldn't have included a video out as well though so that sound could be readily used. 🤔

    You should set the headphone output volume of your model 1 to around 6-7 to prevent the Genesis sound from being distorted when using the mix cable and getting your sound from the stereo outputs on the Sega CD
    Of course, the model 2 Genesis does not require the mixing cable.

    Would all those cables come out of the box if you bought the add-on new at the time? It would be a shame if it didn't considering the difference in the quality and also the fact that the competition (read Super Nintendo) did ship with AV stereo cables (and the SNES was a 1990 release). Nice video by the way! 👍

    • @SvennyMcG
      @SvennyMcG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question! My understanding is no, composite cables were not included with the Sega CD (and certainly not with the Sega Genesis, which I unboxed here: th-cam.com/video/0X7fB-ja1xI/w-d-xo.html ).
      The Sega CD included the power supply and the stereo audio cable but no composite cables. So, to achieve stereo sound you could plug the CD unit directly into an external speaker system (if you had one) or, more likely, you could connect the Sega Genesis RF cable into a VCR (a common device at that time) and demodulate the RF signal into a composite output - essentially use that video from the VCR and stereo sound directly from the Sega CD. Hope that makes sense 😅 Thanks for watching!

    I feel this is incomplete without the addition little RF shield attachments. Those two little metal pieces tend to confuse people the most.

    • @SvennyMcG
      @SvennyMcG  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha unfortunately I didn't get those two pieces - I'm still happy to have the extension piece in addition to the steel connector

    • @dtester
      @dtester ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SvennyMcG But But...think of the FFC regulations!!! 😆
      On a side note, you can carefully bend your metal extension bracket straight if you wanted to. I noticed yours was bent which is quite common. Sega really should have had an additional bracket on the top as well!

    Looking at this video, my parents did not hook up the sega cd correctly. We had a model 1 geneis, model 2 sega cd. The plate ended up inserted into the sega cd and the genesis was pushed on top. They didn't screw in the screw to the plate. Also, they never hooked up the extender plate on the bottom, so the genesis overhanged past the sega cd.

      @@SvennyMcG thats a big boy. There was a time maybe a few years back where you could pick these fancy second hand CRTs up (even HD CRTs with Svideo and component out) for free all the time, at least in my area where i live (central florida). My favorite is a 27” philips set with component out and svideo out. It was stored away for many years and looks like it just came out of a box. Got that set on offerup for only $5 , practically giving it away

    Ok so I have been trying to figure this out and wowo what a diff!!! I have a question now.
    First I have a sega cd and genesis model 1. I am using a scart cable with a stero breakout cable. Do I connect that to the front mixer? Or does that cable go in the TV or a sound system? Do I then separately connect a mixer cable? Do I not touch the red and white cords at that point? I might be overthinkong this but I'm confused.
    Also if I'm using a model 2 genesis and sega cd how does it work? Same thing I have a scart. Help!! LOL
