    I made my stick from a bit of wood, hazel. Wrapped lead round bottom, covered lead in tape, added a rubber cap off a walkin stick. I used quite a stiff thick rope for the carryin strap. The lower knott attachent to the stick could move up and down the stick if needed which made the stick very user friendly whilst wading. Its hard to explain but it worked very well.
    I dont like the banging of metal on the river bed.
    The best nets are those maclean salmon nets i think. Sadly im too skint to buy one lol. Most nets are too small if you are hoping to catch big salmon. Trying to get a twenty pounder in a standard salmon guy net whilst usin a big rod is stressful in my exerience.
    Tight lines matey.

    Put a rubber stopper on that wading stick Rob! I don't want to be following down behind you if you're clattering that thing off all the rocks! I'll also be out on the 1st on the Tyne. Tight lines for the upcoming season mate.

      I will go as far as adding a couple of shrink wraps on there to dull the sound but I need to be able to stab it into the ground for it to work as a camera mount.
      Tight lines to you too, it's going to be a bumper year on our rivers I reckon and we will all be hauling them in like mackerel!

      @@abakerslife Yes I am Rob, although I can't start until March as I have some work events to take care of throughout February - was planning to look at the Tyne on my way up (or down), any suggestions? And maybe we could collaborate on a video as well?

    • @abakerslife

      Not that Im an expert but the back end would nearly guarantee you sport on the Tyne. The beats on fishpal for the main Tyne would all be good shouts. The south Tyne needs water so check the levels before booking anything whereas the north Tyne fishes from May onwards but it gets releases from Kielder reservoir so again best to check the release schedule first to make sure it's not running too hard. As for a colab maybe, if I am around when you are in the area.

    Just found your videos, I like them a lot. You seem to fish on lots of rivers in the North East and Scotland. Do you belong to lots of clubs / associations or is it all day ticket water. Many thanks

    • @abakerslife
      @abakerslife  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Welcome aboard, I'm a member of a couple of fishing clubs that have water all over the north east. I also don't mind buying the odd day ticket to get access to a river either. I'm very lucky that I'm well located for salmon fishing.

    • @abakerslife
      @abakerslife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers, I'm not sure of the exact size but it's the larger model. It's a good net and doesn't get snagged as easily as a gye net.
      Good luck out there.

    Hi, you seem to have taken a fair liking to to the salmon fishing. I will give you a wee pointer here regarding a book I have read many many times, I really mean finish the book and start again and in every read you learn something new so a 6 or 10 time read will make you a better angler with-ought a doubt. The book is available on e bay for 5 quid or there about sand the title is … my way with salmon…. Ian wood is the author and a Loch Lomond and river Tay angler. It is a must.

    • @abakerslife
      @abakerslife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Angus, yeas that would be a fair observation. Thanks for the pointer I will look out for the book. I'm on the Tay at the beginning of May so will be reading up in advance of my trip.

    I have a fancy stick which was bought for me, but I cut myself a piece of Hazel and made a thumbstick, it then got a wrap of sheet lead, which I covered over with paracord and then a layer of epoxy to keep it all together. I ended up removing the lead sheet and adding more weight as the stick used to lift in heavy current.

      DIY is the way ahead in my mind. I hate overpaying for tackle just because it is salmon related.

    Hi Rob ..what is the average price of a beat ticket for the Tyne and similar rivers.
    And how about Scotland is it more expensive?
    What month is the peak of the Salmon season? Thx

    • @abakerslife
      @abakerslife  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It varies wildly from beat to beat on all rivers. The Tyne for example ranges from £40 to £300 depending on the time of year and where you want to fish. I usually fish club water if I can as it's cheaper. For day ticket prices though fishpal.com is the place to look.

    • @abakerslife
      @abakerslife  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Tweed is usually more expensive than most but fishes more consistently. The main runs are probably June to September but there are no guarantees anymore.

      Thanks Chris, I have a day booked at Bywell on the Tyne in a couple of weeks and then 3 days at Kinnaird on the Tay for the first week of May. Between those dates I will be fishing club water and hopefully a day or two on the Whitadder and the Eden. I'd also like to try the Forres AA water on the lower Findhorn. How about you?

      No it was a disaster. I thought I had used it previously with success but I had actually used an industrial bellows adhesive with was a miracle fix because it was so flexible. The 2 products were in similar pots and I must've got them mixed up.
