Women like Claire, as in women who honor their spouse without being submissive and unafraid to speak their mind are hard to find nowadays and you have modern feminism to thank for that. It tainted the well of true feminism and pretty much caused women and men to hate each other. Modern day Feminism teaches that all Women are subliminally oppressed by society and that all Men seek to oppress them and see women only as a means to an end rather than equal valuable members of society, therefore Men are the enemy, leading some women to become misandrist. This animosity towards the male gender caused some Men to become misogynistic, believing that women are not as valuable as men and that society was better off when women were subjugated, ironically giving legitimacy to the extremist views of modern feminism. And if you don’t get it together and drop these macho attitudes, you are never going to have anybody bringing you anything, anywhere, anyplace, anytime, ever."
Some of the best scenes begin with Claire saying, "Let me tell you something" in that I'm about to rip you a new one in the most calm and sophisticated way it will ever be done voice that she perfected!!! Also Elvin, Kenny (Bud), and Cockroach were the perfect targets for the Wrath of Claire. All three let their mouth write checks that their minds could cash.
I like the clip, but I wouldn't call it a "feminist rant." It serves the root needs of feminism (the true and original definition of equality between genders), but I hope people don't mistake this as Claire "bashing" on men in any way. Elvin is a character who, in early seasons, leaned toward sexism because that was what was modeled to him through his parents. At first Elvin thinks it should be Claire's job to keep the kitchen because she's a woman, but later Cliff tells him that's not how their family runs. Somehow Elvin takes from that the thought that Claire does not do kitchen work for her husband at all, which is the cause of his surprise in this scene. Claire here is simply setting the record straight: She is neither superior nor inferior to her husband Cliff, and they do not perpetuate servant/ master roles in their homes.
the idea that women who get angry about being second class citizens to patriarchy are somehow bashing men is ludicrous. if there were not misogynist men, there would be no feminists. one created the other. just like perpetual racist attitudes birthed black lives matter.
@@Stackem901 50 50 in marriages means each one is giving as much as they are taking, not just whatever "roles" either one decides to take on. Roles don't constitute equal treatment. @@autisticscreechling4950 50/50 is only illusion ''men'' simply provide more in terms of security and I'm not really talking about just financial despite women having more opportunities in the modern-day age. Let's not kid ourselves and be realistic that's just one of many examples. See despite all the societal changes privately men are still expected to protect the Homefront so it could never be 50/50 that just feel good talk.
@@ryanr20091 What the hell are you even on about? I was talking about parity in marriages/relationships, not comparing men and women overall. Claire's rant here is not about whether women are equal to men in every way, because they're not, its about the outdated notion that a woman's role in a marriage is to serve, as in serve her husband and never vice versa in any circumstance. She's making a point that she does things for her husband, Cliff (like getting him coffee) not because it's her job or her "role" as a woman but simply because she loves him and Cliff actually did and does the same for her for the same reason in the mornings. That is what 50/50 means here. Give and take which is what relationships in general are about. Her husband makes coffee for her, she makes coffee for him. Your significant other consistently does something nice for you, you should do so in kind for them. It's not that deep, dude.
Someone explain to me why this has anything to do with modern feminism? This clip to me is about commitment in marriage, responsibility to those you love and general decency not about some new opportunist movement aiming to elevate the social, economical and political status of women over men by force.
Amina Holder Everyone is trying so hard to make sense out of everything. Life is not meant to be this complicated. People should enjoy the ride and hangout with good people.
I think some females get a little too caught up in the crowd and instead of objectively analyzing situations suh as these they jump on that "woman power" bandwagon. Wanting to serve your husband a bleddy cup of tea doesn't make you subservient it makes you a wife getting a husband a cup of tea #AndTheTruthIsThatSimple
No, it does relate because if you're familiar with the Cosby show, you'd know the character of Elvin (his early appearances only) has sexist attitudes of which he believes women are supposed to be the servers, cleaners and cookers for their men. Here, Elvin is surprised when he thinks Claire is exhibiting those attitudes when she isn't. Then Claire stands up for herself basically saying women are equal to men. This scene was particularly groundbreaking because when it was aired, it really challenged that traditional view of women.
Does anyone else remember, earlier in this same episode, how Cliff asked Elvin if his hands were broken when Elvin said there were no meals in his house because his mother worked? xD
one of the best rants she ever gave was on denise and later vanessa. *you can take that money and your lil funky attitude and go discover america if you ever speak to me that way again*
Lauren D Another problem I have with "feminists": telling me what I /should/ think about things outside of my control instead of looking at what I /do/ with the things in my control.
thescowlingschnauzer You're just an ignorant piece of shit who tries to silence people while claiming you're helping them. That's what I see when I look only at what you /do/, as per your own request. What I've gathered from just two responses from you: You don't treat women like people.
Falcon1200 What am I ignorant about? Educate me. What have I done to treat women unlike people? I'd be a lot more likely to be your ally if you got to know me instead of being rude and projecting your hate on me.
thescowlingschnauzer You're completely dismissive of any feedback. You say one thing that sounds positive, your first comment, but then you get some feedback and after that you're completely dismissive. Instead of taking what Lauren said and learning form it (because what she said was true), instead you decided to completely dismiss what she said and make a sweeping claim of your own. If you want to be an ally, don't talk over feminists. Don't gloss over everything they say and don't discredit the entire movement. You're guilty of all three of these. Just saying you're an ally doesn't make you an ally. Especially when you claim to know women aren't treated like people, but you're saying you'll only be willing to treat a woman like a person if she got to know you? That's very telling of who you are already.
Falcon1200 Dismiss what the other said and make a sweeping claim of your own. Sure, I did that to Lauren in my second post. Lauren also did it to me in her post. You did it to me in your post, and you also directly insulted me. So what am I supposed to learn from your conduct here?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Through the entire thing cliff is like, " crap.... Crap... He said it... Here it comes... Here she goes... Aww you poor kid, you about to get read like shit....poor kid"
Omg this isn't feminist enough...really? Because she's married, or because she believes in having a balanced relationship based on equality? What's not feminist about that? If her husband brought her coffee that morning, why is it UNFEMINIST of her to bring him one later that afternoon? She's also an esteemed career woman, as well as a mother. Like I don't see what's so backwards, and traditional about her character's situation...seems hella progressive to me!
As soon as the boy said “serve him”, Cliff literally went into the “Oh shit, here we go” expression. Fellas, be honest with me, how many times have you had to see/gone through this expression with your wife or girlfriend?
I'm sorry but the caption is very ambiguous. There's noting feminist about having a successful career, thriving children and a loving marriage. it's called life and some of us are striving to be a Claire Huxtable in the 21st century
Lmao I love this episode! Claire ironed that out and quick! Cliff knew the deal! Lol! All you negative people shut it. Always griping about something. She made a very valid point and it was less about feminism and more about give and take of a marriage and a couple. Shallow thinkers totally missed it.
why must claire be set apart from feminism when she shut down elvin with a basic feminist tenet: *the sole purpose of a woman is not to serve and cater to a man like he's a helpless infant*
Feminism is about equality and Claire plainly states that both people in a relationship should give/take equally, which is the very definition of feminism.

I call bullshit your playing you described a character. Roles and characters need to defined there’s no 50 50 in marriage.
@@Stackem901 50 50 in marriages means each one is giving as much as they are taking, not just whatever "roles" either one decides to take on.
Roles don't constitute equal treatment. Doesn't matter whether one or both of you are providers or homeworkers, if one of you is taking more than you are giving or putting more work into the relationship than the other, then that means the relationship is parasitic and shouldn't continue.
@@autisticscreechling4950 50/50 is only illusion ''men'' simply provide more in terms of security and I'm not really talking about just financial despite women having more opportunities in the modern-day age. If something happens at night there no way in hell a woman is going to meet whatever threat is on the other side of that door 50 percent of the time lol.
This clip to me is about commitment in marriage, responsibility to those you love and general decency not about some new opportunist movement aiming to elevate the social, economical and political status of women over men by force.
exactly. Some people take it waaay too seriously dude

Everyone is trying so hard to make sense out of everything. Life is not meant to be this complicated. People should enjoy the ride and hangout with good people.
*****
Im glad you feel the same way.
Does anyone else remember, earlier in this same episode, how Cliff asked Elvin if his hands were broken when Elvin said there were no meals in his house because his mother worked? xD
She was stunning... I remember being a teenager watching this show and I liked the mom instead of the daughters.
carmaj156 Same here, she was the Dime of the Family
one of the best rants she ever gave was on denise and later vanessa. *you can take that money and your lil funky attitude and go discover america if you ever speak to me that way again*
when you know you fucked up
Epitome of a Howard woman...very intelligent and classy, but she will get you together real quick in the blink of an eye 😂 #LoveIt #BisonPride
Stephen Moore that’s a 3rd ward (Houston) TEXAS woman
I like Cliff's "this is gonna suck" expression when Clair says "Let me tell you something, Elvin."
0:24 Cliff already knew what was finna go down 🤣
CLAIR WILL ALWAYS BE THE QUEEN OF TV
You know what my biggest problem is with feminism? Why do we need a word for treating women like people?
Lauren D
Another problem I have with "feminists": telling me what I /should/ think about things outside of my control instead of looking at what I /do/ with the things in my control.
thescowlingschnauzer You're just an ignorant piece of shit who tries to silence people while claiming you're helping them. That's what I see when I look only at what you /do/, as per your own request. What I've gathered from just two responses from you: You don't treat women like people.
Falcon1200
What am I ignorant about?
Falcon1200
Dismiss what the other said and make a sweeping claim of your own. Sure, I did that to Lauren in my second post. Lauren also did it to me in her post. You did it to me in your post, and you also directly insulted me. So what am I supposed to learn from your conduct here?
Great scene by a great actress. It’s a shame she never won an Emmy.
She's da bomb...she told his butt...loved The Cosby Show and still do...support Mr. Cosby for Life!...
Google Hazel Hazels you can come and do it Hazel TV show TV show Hazel's TV show
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Through the entire thing cliff is like, " crap.... Crap... He said it... Here it comes... Here she goes... Aww you poor kid, you about to get read like shit....poor kid"
"When she brings the coffee back, If I were you, I wouldn't drink it"
LMAO
the moment bill sat down with his hand over his face i was like ohhhhhhh boy yu better run
" Now, what would you like in your coffee? *smilingly " 😂 best tv momma PREIOD
Love how Cliff just sat down out of the line of fire.
THANK YOU! So many people think that feminists are a bunch of man-haters. Really, this is an example of TRUE feminism.
Feminst are man haters
CSC Then you must think Claire is a man-hater
YES!!! All Clair did was tell Elvin about give and take a 50/50 marriage. How it should be.
@@csc4781 no they are not... It looks like you need to do your research
As soon as the boy said “serve him”, Cliff literally went into the “Oh shit, here we go” expression. Fellas, be honest with me, how many times have you had to see/gone through this expression with your wife or girlfriend?
I wouldn't worry about Claire bringing me coffee. I'd be worried about Cosby bringing me coffee.
I'm sorry but the caption is very ambiguous. There's noting feminist about having a successful career, thriving children and a loving marriage. it's called life and some of us are striving to be a Claire Huxtable in the 21st century
K B Chiwuta right it’s like calling a female boss a bitch... naw she’s just the boss.. 🤷🏾♀️
@@latashascott3503 why is being a feminist so bad and yet elvin flaunts his ignorance without a bit of shame?
Before there was Julia Sugarbaker, and after there was Maude FIndlay, there was Clair Huxtable...
FACTS!
Yaaaas
Soon as she said "Let me tell you somethin" I knew what time it was😂😂
Lmao I love this episode!
Claire gives me sooo much LIFE!
That wasn´t a feminist rant !She just made her point ...
it was definitely an intelligent woman who doesn not suffer the willful ignorance of foolish men rant
I love when Claire goes on her rants. 😂😂😂
0:29 Cliff thinking 'oh god, stop now, please stop, for the love of all that is holy STOP'
0:36 'oh god I warned you, here it comes'
Bill Cosby's the last person to warn you about things put in your coffee.
any child knows to say NO THANK YOU
This isnt feminism..its just real talk..what black people used to do, help each other
Feminism is real talk
Hannah K Not always
Hannah K ha! you're real funny.
+Hannah K You have the wrong number
At the end, Cliff says "when she brings the coffee back, if I were you, I wouldn't drink it ". Irony
love it. i loved her on this show . school these men . yes . u are a queen . his equal not the lesser.
Nah! Maybe 60/40. Hell, I'd give you 55/45; but NEVER the equal! LOL! :)
This woman is my role model
Who the hell is Bill Cosby to warn anyone about something being in their coffee?
When she said "lemme tell you something Elvin" I knew he was dead
TALK TO HIM‼️‼️She had to get the lil ignorant boy together real quick👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾a lot of young boys need to be read like this
So classy with it never cursing or getting out of character
elvin shoud have been cursed from morning til night with his outrageous foolishness.
I love when Cliff said "when she brings the coffee , if I were you , I won't drink it" !😂😂😂😂
guess this the closest thing to seeing the Cosby show again ugh

Slay Claire! Slayyyyy
Willie B.T. lol
When she pointed her finger to Elvin, it was game over for him!
Now that's how you read someone with class....EPIC!
This is one of my all time favorite scenes of The Cosby Show. I still laugh out loud every time I watch it.
I remember the next day after this show, everyone on tv and at school tried that tongue twister Claire did. Some of us stumbled. I know I did.
Doesn't seem like a feminist rant to me, she told the truth and put ol boy in his place so that he wouldn't do it again. Common discipline
Agreed
Feminism is about equality and Claire plainly states that both people in a relationship should give/take equally, which is the very definition of feminism.
Man this scene alone reminds me of my late mom. She acted JUST LIKE Mrs. Huxtable down to the T. She definitely didn’t take no bull from nobody and could break you down from A-Z then back from Z-A again all without using a single curse word. Lord I miss that woman 👼🏽❤️😔
She read him down honey tens across the board!!!!!!
She was such an amazing mom figure, that when Blossom dreamed of a mom, she dreamed of Claire Huxtable. Love her!
Phylicia Rashard is such a great actress.
