    I have no sympathy for the people getting on a cruise even after COVID-19 was declared an epidemic. Even after the Diamond Princess, they still decided to get on a floating death trap. Yes Carnival did a horrible quarantine job, but the passengers needs to protect themselves first.

      I don’t understand why people are so mad at how viruses spread on cruise ships. They have always been like, but no one complained before the pandemic. Why should we complain now?

    • @andreac1328
      @andreac1328 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Many of these cruise ships weren’t offering refunds or an ability to move their dates. My family and I were scheduled to board one week after the diamond princess and only 1 day before we were ready to set sail did they offer refunds/date changes (which we took). The cruise lines failed the passengers because they weren’t giving people an option even though we were in an epidemic/pandemic at the time as well as the insurance companies (since they didn’t cover epidemic/pandemics...no joke)

    As mentioned in this video, cruise ships have dealt with SARS, Zika, constantly battling with norovirus. How is it that they're supposed to know this is different, especially when many countries (in particular the U.S.) who had more knowledge of the truth of the situation hadn't shut down the cruise ports? Something like this hasn't happened in more than 100 years and most governments were still seeing this as an Asia problem, not a global problem. But everyone expects cruise lines to have seen more clearly? And the ships with the worst crises had left port before or around the time the depth of the problem on the Diamond Princess was starting to be understood. But that ship had a lot of Asian people on it so it was still seen as primarily an Asian problem.
    Hindsight is 2020. Why do so many people forget that when they're in the mood to bash and blame someone?

    Went on a short 4 day cruise out of Long Beach Feb. 24-28 and another March 2-6 (long story). Federal officials were in the terminal on both occasions we were asked to fill out a questionnaire and sign it. Four or five questions and sign it. "Have you been out of the country in the last 3 weeks?" etc etc. The 100th case in the U.S, was confirmed the 1st of March and cruising ended about 2 weeks later. Lots of arm chair quarterbacks.

    Start converting those cruise ships to hospital ships, otherwise they’re not going to be needed for a while. Use them to travel to other poorer densely populated coastal regions like Africa and India that will need resources most as the spread continues. Maybe the execs at these travel companies can see a humanitarian and commercial viability in using these vessels to fight against the pandemic instead of being barnacle magnets.

    I used to work for Carnival for a while and I literally HATE this company. The guests don't see the the reality and by choosing Carnival, they support an abusive work enviroment. I used to work for 16-18h EVERY DAY, and it's obviously overtime, they asked me to correct the times on the clock-in/clock-out machine. When I was sick and I couldn't even walk (due to back injury), nobody gave a sh*t and forced me to work no matter what. So...I am saying all of that just to confirm that Carnival dosn't care about any rules or norms, they will do the impossible to take every cent on the price of people's health, no matter guests or crew. One last thing: I remember one of my managers' brain washing tacktics who one told me with an irony in his voice: "You won't ever find better job than this in your country. Here you have everything. You better be thankful"
    Soooo....
    What goes around, comes around Carnival. .|.

      PS. This is NOT an unprecedented event. Microbiologists have long feared a global outbreak especially with the rise of antibiotic resistant bacteria strains. The problem is human arrogance and forgetting that we are biological organisms subject to the same rules as other organisms. Stuff 3,000 people into a floating hotel with poor sanitation and air flow and what do u expect. Next time it will be worse.

    Want to know why these cruise ships sailed despite clear, potential health hazards becoming apparent? Two reasons: 1) Money (naturally) and 2) Because we live in a global culture where no one wants to overreact...we'd rather underreact and pay the consequences instead of overreacting and being wrong. I leave it to you dear reader of which is better given what we have been going through with the present pandemic - overreacting or underreacting? You be the judge.

It's not unheard of when people were killed in a house fire, by a tornado, or by hurricanes, or by a small plane that dropped from the sky, or by the disease that was brought upon by mice, or by the West Nile virus from mosquito bites from the backyard, or merely by smoking second-hand smoke from the neighbors.

    My hubby and I took the Grand Princess cruise from SF, through the Panama Canal, and ended in Ft. Lauderdale just 5 months before the trip that got hit with COVID-19. It was a lovely, 15-day anniversary cruise for us and another couple with whom we are close friends, and we both have December anniversaries. After our 15-day cruise, this ship has an itinerary down to Buenos Aires, as is the norm for this ship. When I heard about the COVID crisis on this ship, I couldn’t help but think of the nice folks we met who were going on with the second leg of the cruise. In particular were two separate retired women who told us that they essentially live on the ship, and repeatedly take the same cruise, which allows them the opportunity to see more of the places they enjoy. I have heard of retired folks who do this fairly regularly. I realized those two older women were very likely on the Grand Princess (a lovely ship, btw) when the virus hit, and hoped they were not among those who got sick or died. We felt very fortunate that we went when we did!
