Nionivek I think the reason WHY the show got popular is SIMPLE....A. it's very inclusive to the major stereotypes, B. it realistically depicts what bullying feels like C. It creates a positive culture by showing people taking the high road D. They use songs to FORCE context and make them tell the story E. more than anything the show is a celebration of life lived... and F. It stays incredibly topically relevant.
Carey Coleman A is fair, certainly it uses them a bit too "Stereotypically" and for "Tokenism" but it isn't "Big Bang Theory" so I'll give it that. For B I am going to put a big no on that. It depends who is doing the bullying as the biggest bullies in the series pretty much don't affect someone or are considered in the "Right" for being a bully. For C: No the characters are often terrible and get away with it. For D the show constantly defies the emotions of scenes and shifts it dramatically... and E the show is depressing when you look at it over its whole run... and F, it is a very retro-show that we have seen before, I cannot remember the name of the show but it copies its format pretty closely right down to even reusing some of its actors. Those cannot be the reason the show is popular. Mind you a show being "Higher than thou" isn't really something that tends to attract attention. Hence why Big Bang Theory is incredibly popular in spite being one of the most sexist, racist, discriminatory show out there right now. It would have to be within its writing and presentation over how much it is a "positive influence" If I had to guess why Glee is popular? It would be because it is delightfully trashy. A Bunch of characters just constantly bad mouthing each other, soap opera plots, attractive characters, and REALLY inconsistent tone... seems like a winner.
I'm crying so hard right now. Glee's music always strikes me deep to the core, and I suffer from a debilitating illness. Glee has saved my life, and I don't feel so alone when I listen to the music or watch the show

I will be with this show no matter who comes in, who leaves, how stupid the writers are, etc. I just love the show. I used to be an invisible never-talking freshman with 0 friends. Now I'm student body recognition chairperson involved in the performing arts and clubs. Glee saved me. I can never repay them for that.
