    I know I already left a comment but I really just wanted to thank you again for review this laptop. I feel like the GP66 is the sleeper hit of the year. The power this laptop provides is crazy considering its a 130w 3080. I did some overclocking to it and got a TimeSpy score of 12,383 that is within a few points of a Legion 7i I tested a few months back with a 165w 3080. granted you wont run it OC all the time but even stock it runs amazing and the fan profiles are the best I think I have ever heard. Thanks again for this amazing review and turning me on to the GP66

      Hi
      I was waiting for the new 2022 Legion laptops…
      But have seen the GP66 RTX 3080 for £1899 and I think it might come down further.. my budget is around £1500.
      Would you still recommend it ? Can you upgrade the RAM and SSD?

      @@LaMOi1 If you can find it for a good price then it's probably still worth it. The laptop was great and I was really happy with it. If you do a lot non-gaming tasks it may be worth it to keep saving for a 12th gen CPU, but if if not that GE66 is really good.

      I’m sensing a BUT…?
      You think you can get a better laptop for £1800 ??
      I will be buying it to mostly game.
      I’m just wondering what exactly performance gains there are compared to the Legion 5, R7, RTX 3070….
      If there’s not that much of a difference, say like 10%, then maybe it’s more economical to just spend £1100 on a cheaper laptop..?
      That said if I’m honest, my primary platform for gaming is my PS5. I bought a gaming laptop to be able to play games like total war Warhammer, Bannerlord, and certainly the upcoming Starfield I’m interested in.
      But I think the PS5 will remain my primary platform for gaming. I suppose I’m looking to get a beefier laptop, to kind of future proof it.
      And so I can catch I games that are exclusive to the PC or Xbox for example.

      @@LaMOi1 The only but is just how close the price may be to the 12th gen refresh. Now it's not going to be super close in cost, probably a 400 which is not cheap "but" if its for long term use, maybe worth it. Honestly, this starts to get into a dangrous place as you could keep asking, what if I spent 200 more and got this, and then 300 on top of that and before you know it your looking at 2800 laptops instead of 1800 lol. Really though that GP66 for 1800 is a great price and you get so much for that laptop to make it worth not going cheaper.

      Lol… ooooh I know what you mean…
      I am waiting on the 12th gen refresh, especially with the Legion. Just to check prices and performance gains!
      I originally had my eye on the Legion 5 RTX3070 R7 5800. In all honestly, it doesn’t seem even high end laptops outperform it significantly.
      Might end up going with that - save some cash…

    You can get the gp66 UH-456 with the QHD 2160X21440 panel and the 3080 130watts gpu on Newegg. This laptop is a beast regarding to performance, the only drawback is the battery life and the lack of usb type C and thunderbolt ports.

    This machine appeals to 1 person IMO; someone who must have a 3080. Otherwise, this machine is outclassed by all of the competition. The screen and the lack of type-c are unforgivable omissions.

      @OWNORDISOWN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, they cut quite a few corners. The 240Hz one in sale at $1799 is a good deal if you just want a fast laptop for gaming. Personally I would have liked the 99wh battery and better optimization to get better battery life plus a USB C and an SD card.

    Almost 2 years since I got the laptop and had to re-paste the CPU/GPU, the paste was almost gone. Also the motherboard had paste for other components but that paste was fine. The problem I'm having is that the laptop gets hot even idle (at the time of writing this comment only running Chrome). Repasting helped a bit with the thermals but still hot, specially at the area above the keyboard.

      The Legion 5 pro does have Gysnc and you get 12 months of their premium tech support, including coming to your home. At least in the USA you do. Better port selection on the Legion. But then there is the 3070 vs 3080...you will get more performance of course on the 3080 but will DLSS your 3070 will still be capable for a long time. Do you prefer a 16x9 vs 16 x 10 screen?

      @@vmafarah9473 first of all, I'm not talking about running max fan, I'm talking about making your own profiles(quiter for example after cutting down the power limits manually and undervolting), as most laptops are way too loud for me when they are pretty much idling, like at 50-60 degrees. This is 100% safe temperature for a CPU and GPU, but the noise is uncomfortable to me.
      At high loads - I understand, it needs to push a lot of heat out of a laptop. But having loud fans at idle and basic tasks when temps are low - I never understood that, so I want to configure it myself and create something that would be perfect FOR ME personally. After all, it's my laptop, why the heck am I not allowed to use it how I want? I payed for it, a lot of money.
      Second, fans are really cheap to replace. You'd be surprised even. I ordered for my Dell G3 3579 for like 15 bucks from aliexpress and they still work perfectly since, for 2 years now.

      @@OWNORDISOWN So it can never actually reach the all core turbo.. For comparison, my Alienware M17 R3 with 10980HK sustained the chip's rated 4.4ghz all core turbo in cinebench. It had the best 10th gen laptop result I had seen in R20 with 4478.
      I LOVED that laptop. Was so happy with it. Had multiple profiles set, could be silent as anything.. and then the graphics started flickering.. Failed a GFX hardware test, and because they are a one part mobo/gfx/cpu/ram, and mine was specced out completely, they didn't have a replacement part, and the laptop was already legacy when I bought it (which is why I got it at a great price). I had it for 6 blissful months, and Alienware said they didn't have an X17 or R4 with comparable stats (3080 to replace the full power 2080S I had, 11980HK for X17 or 10980HK for the R4, they are all out of flagship parts here), so they offered me a refund. After 6 months. THAT'S service. Picked it up the next day and I had my money in my account a couple days later- so I have a bit of a soft spot for Dell.

    The Price and performance is unbeatable, really good gaming Notebook, the best definitely at this point.
    But, I would still consider the MSI GP76 Leopard with the RTX 3070, just because it's 17 Inch, 240hz and mostly because the RTX 3070 which is also at TDP 140W.
    If I would consider a gaming Notebook with RTX 3080 then I would get the 16GB Vram variant with TDP 165W, which is in my opinion the true potential of the RTX 3080. (In example the XMG Neo 17)
    This MSI GP66 has just the 8GB Variant and with 140W TDP.

      Hey there, welcome to my channel. I played BF V alot, testing all three power modes in the same 64 player Rotterdam map. SOTTR i played quite a bit too as I was testing the overclock. Far Cry 6 I played about 30 mins from the start of the game. Valhalla I just ran the benchmark. I also tested the CPU in about 7 different tests. The results I will show in an i7 11800H vs Ryzen 7 5800H video.

    So I have a 2021 Zepherus G14 w/ the R9 5900 and 3060, I was trying to play some Halo Infinite the other day, and im only able to get like 29fps on low settings. Obviously i have the computer plugged in. Could this be a hardware driver issue, or just the game is too good for the computer?

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My first thought was the RAM. Is the non soldered stick 1Rx16? That is much slower than 1Rx8. That may be the cause. Your resolution is QHD? Perhaps try 1080p. You can try setting the 3060 to max performance in 3D settings? Also it would be interesting to see the effect of optimus and try using an external monitor? You can try disabling dynamic boost 2.0: th-cam.com/video/MiAQ8YRCu20/w-d-xo.html
