Interesting. I just bought the 1440p version a few days ago and its on the way. Hopefully that'll be a big boost. Got it off of new egg on sale for 1949. the GP66 Leopard 11UH-456

Hello, thanks a lot for this review. It's 2022 and I've found some good prices. I wanted to know if I should go for the GP66 with i7 11800H and RTX 3080 for 1500 euros... But then there is the 3070 vs 3080...you will get more performance of course on the 3080 but will DLSS your 3070 will still be capable for a long time. Do you prefer a 16x9 vs 16 x 10 screen?

Cheers mate! Yeah, they cut some corners which i didn't like. The GE66 has it all, although the mic on that was poor. Battery life was terrible though, lol
@@vmafarah9473 first of all, I'm not talking about running max fan, I'm talking about making your own profiles(quiter for example after cutting down the power limits manually and undervolting), as most laptops are way too loud for me when they are pretty much idling, like at 50-60 degrees. This is 100% safe temperature for a CPU and GPU, but the noise is uncomfortable to me. At high loads - I understand, it needs to push a lot of heat out of a laptop. But having loud fans at idle and basic tasks when temps are low - I never understood that, so I want to configure it myself and create something that would be perfect FOR ME personally. After all, it's my laptop, why the heck am I not allowed to use it how I want? I payed for it, a lot of money. Second, fans are really cheap to replace. You'd be surprised even. I ordered for my Dell G3 3579 for like 15 bucks from aliexpress and they still work perfectly since, for 2 years now.
my old gl 72 got and stayed at 70⁰ by doing what you described so the more modern 10nm chip with modern cooling system should be fine also the heat sinks do their job just fine without fan suport in light use
I liked the 5 Pro's screen better and also its trackpad so I would be tempted to go that route. Or better still the Legion 7 if you can still pick one up.
Out of the two I did prefer the Legion 5 Pro, probably mainly because of the 16:10 display number one and the trackpad is better. But you are giving up some performance by going with the 3060. Tough one, I think I would choose the 5 Pro
@@OWNORDISOWN oh, what a relief! I had just received the lenovo legion 5 pro I ordered recently. glad to know you recommend it over the gp66. thank you very much!
hey i have the same model but i cant change values of undervolt in bios I enabled overclocking feature and the disabled both settings in power management for clock but still cant change the numbers any idea? my thought is maybe the bios is updated by stock ?
Yep, the thermals are very average for anyone who can't get HID easily.. actually I'd even say poor. I would have liked to know the frequency when it was 95 degrees if you don't mind Stephen. From everything I have seen lately and my own tests with the S17, Asus seem to be overtaking everyone on laptop thermals.
@@OWNORDISOWN So it can never actually reach the all core turbo.. For comparison, my Alienware M17 R3 with 10980HK sustained the chip's rated 4.4ghz all core turbo in cinebench. It had the best 10th gen laptop result I had seen in R20 with 4478. I LOVED that laptop. Was so happy with it. Had multiple profiles set, could be silent as anything.. and then the graphics started flickering.. Failed a GFX hardware test, and because they are a one part mobo/gfx/cpu/ram, and mine was specced out completely, they didn't have a replacement part, and the laptop was already legacy when I bought it (which is why I got it at a great price). I had it for 6 blissful months, and Alienware said they didn't have an X17 or R4 with comparable stats (3080 to replace the full power 2080S I had, 11980HK for X17 or 10980HK for the R4, they are all out of flagship parts here), so they offered me a refund. After 6 months. THAT'S service. Picked it up the next day and I had my money in my account a couple days later- so I have a bit of a soft spot for Dell.
The Price and performance is unbeatable, really good gaming Notebook, the best definitely at this point. But, I would still consider the MSI GP76 Leopard with the RTX 3070, just because it's 17 Inch, 240hz and mostly because the RTX 3070 which is also at TDP 140W. If I would consider a gaming Notebook with RTX 3080 then I would get the 16GB Vram variant with TDP 165W, which is in my opinion the true potential of the RTX 3080. (In example the XMG Neo 17) This MSI GP66 has just the 8GB Variant and with 140W TDP.
Hey there, welcome to my channel. I played BF V alot, testing all three power modes in the same 64 player Rotterdam map. SOTTR i played quite a bit too as I was testing the overclock. Far Cry 6 I played about 30 mins from the start of the game. Valhalla I just ran the benchmark. I also tested the CPU in about 7 different tests. The results I will show in an i7 11800H vs Ryzen 7 5800H video.
Does anyone know what brand SSD comes with the laptop? I'm getting a single 1 TB included with my GP66, I would like to get another of the same brand before my laptop gets to me, so I can put the new SSD in right away, so I have 2 TB off the bat.
guys...is this laptop a good option for 1600 euros? I see that new gen of laptops with new processors + 3080 will be 2k euros... I am considering this version.
@@OWNORDISOWN bought it. Thanks a lot. I wanted the new generation but they are all above 2k. I got this one with 3080. Lets see how it goes. TDP is 140w.

My first thought was the RAM. Is the non soldered stick 1Rx16? That is much slower than 1Rx8. That may be the cause. Your resolution is QHD? Perhaps try 1080p. You can try setting the 3060 to max performance in 3D settings? Also it would be interesting to see the effect of optimus and try using an external monitor? You can try disabling dynamic boost 2.0: th-cam.com/video/MiAQ8YRCu20/w-d-xo.html
@@OWNORDISOWN I actually figured it out! I downloaded the game at first through the Microsoft app, but I deleted it and downloaded through Stream and it plays great now!!
Mostly those things happen because you are running one stick of RAM. If that's not the case then make sure you are in dGPU mode and all drivers are up to date.
Its nearly as powerful as any desktop out there. I guess much depends on how many kayers you have in your timeline. When I have 4 moving sections displayed at once, even at 1080p my 5800H and 32GB RAM struggles
Hi. Thank you for the video. Your content is always great. Have you attempted Ge76 vbios on your unit? Managed to knock down temperatures to 80 on CPU and 79 on GPU with undervolts and slightly reduced cpu clocks. Have some headroom for additional load 🙂 so was curious

Cheers mate! Yeah, they cut some corners which i didn't like. The GE66 has it all, although the mic on that was poor. Battery life was terrible though, lol
@@OWNORDISOWN How long does the battery last?
i mean my 4 year gl72 has one. never used it
also in light use i manged to get mine passively cooled sitting at 70⁰ C on the CPU
There is an other side for custom fan curve people who keep fan full speed won't last them longer. Seen some MSI laptops with damaged fans.
Will you try flashing vbios of GE66 to increase TDP to 165W? many people did that without issues tbh as GP66 has great thermal performance anyway.
Nope, if it were mine I would but it has to go back to Hidevolution...
Am I missing something here, no type c usb port?
How loud is the fan noise while idle or browsing/TH-cam?
I know you can turn off the fans but until what temperature could I keep them off?
Thank you
my old gl 72 got and stayed at 70⁰ by doing what you described so the more modern 10nm chip with modern cooling system should be fine
also the heat sinks do their job just fine without fan suport in light use
This same exact laptop from MSI but with rtx 3070 vs Lenovo legion 5 pro with rtx 3060 1030tgp and Ryzen 7?
I liked the 5 Pro's screen better and also its trackpad so I would be tempted to go that route. Or better still the Legion 7 if you can still pick one up.
Hello Steve! Do you recommend me to go for the GP66 RTX 3070, or the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro RTX 3060? I need your advice!
CB R23
Silent mode ran at 2507 Mhz
Balanced mode ran at 3591 Mhz
Extreme performance at 3790 Mhz
(In example the XMG Neo 17)
This MSI GP66 has just the 8GB Variant and with 140W TDP.
Yeah, that would open the door for good QHD and 4k gaming
I picked this because it is 15 inch.. makes all the difference when you travel a lot vs 17 inch...
my GP66 with the 3080 actually has 16gb
of ram on the 3080!
@@pilsatortube ok if you travel a lot is the best solution to get a 15 inch 👍
@@pilsatortube true Power 💪🏼
Thank for the review :D I'm new :D Did you test all those games by yourself ?
How often do you play them ? Or just for the review ?, thank you
Hey there, welcome to my channel.
I'm getting a single 1 TB included with my GP66, I would like to get another of the same brand before my laptop gets to me, so I can put the new SSD in right away, so I have 2 TB off the bat.
i don't think mismatched SSD s are a problem like it is with RAM
guys...is this laptop a good option for 1600 euros? I see that new gen of laptops with new processors + 3080 will be 2k euros... I am considering this version.
Definitely. The 3080 is not much slower than the 3080Ti.
@@OWNORDISOWN bought it. Thanks a lot. I wanted the new generation but they are all above 2k. I got this one with 3080. Lets see how it goes. TDP is 140w.
I justr got mine a week ago
Anyone else have a really flimsy chargin port?
i solid exhale would blow it out
And the trackpad is terrible
So I have a 2021 Zepherus G14 w/ the R9 5900 and 3060, I was trying to play some Halo Infinite the other day, and im only able to get like 29fps on low settings. Obviously i have the computer plugged in. Could this be a hardware driver issue, or just the game is too good for the computer?
Do you have any numbers for running games maxed out in 4K?
Just the tests I did in this video
One of the best in mics
Yes, I thought the mic was great. Definitely up there with the best.
Man not even a type C! That's pretty pitiful on a machine at this price range.
Yeah, I agree. Seems a daft way to cut costs if you ask me.
yeah it's a 2021 laptop and still no type c... msi is weird
Can you use in clamp with decent performance and noise?
What do you mean by "clamp" ?
@@OWNORDISOWN lol sorry, I meant when the laptop is closed. I want to use it with a monitor via hdmi 2.1
thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Happy Thanksgiving, have a nice day!!
Thanks, happy Thanksgiving too Anthony!
Are you sure it got 140W? Because i read that it "just" got 130W
That is what it said in the Nvidia control panel 140W
Hi, its 130W, it can reach 140w with dynamic boost but I rarely see it above 130
Great video as always!
Cheer mate!
You kinda look like Mr.Bean /Johnny English
Some how i have Problems to get good fps in games is there something i can do
Mostly those things happen because you are running one stick of RAM. If that's not the case then make sure you are in dGPU mode and all drivers are up to date.
Very disappointed you didn't do latencymon tests on this one:(
Yeah, I was under a time crunch to get it out. I forgot, sorry!
@@OWNORDISOWN All good. Love your reviews. Sorry I was so wrong about the G-sync before. My bad.
Hey Teddy, just tested it. It failed I'm afraid in both Hybrid and dGPU mode. Sorry!
@@OWNORDISOWN That's ok, thanks for the heads up!
Mux Switch?
Yes, you can see it at 04:47. You can chose dedicated GPU or Hybrid
Could this edit 6k?
Its nearly as powerful as any desktop out there. I guess much depends on how many kayers you have in your timeline. When I have 4 moving sections displayed at once, even at 1080p my 5800H and 32GB RAM struggles
Hi. Thank you for the video. Your content is always great. Have you attempted Ge76 vbios on your unit? Managed to knock down temperatures to 80 on CPU and 79 on GPU with undervolts and slightly reduced cpu clocks. Have some headroom for additional load 🙂 so was curious
audio is low
thanks for the feedback
Steve you are awesome.
Thanks!
To be fair gp66 is the cheapest laptop with solid gpu+cpu atm. It still wins with lenovo 7 in terms of performance. Ofc there are some weak points like lack of usb-c etc but c'mon... This is laptop mainly for gaming. If u want good performance for good money (and u are a gamer) then go for it.
The $1799 240Hz one i put in the description is a killer deal.
10/10
Thanks!
Terrible review.
Great, glad you enjoyed it 👍
