I find this update a major L, but for another reason. When David envisioned Roblox, I believe he envisioned it as a platform where people can meet, create, imaginate, play, laugh, battle etc… except for dating. Once this update comes in, this is all pointless for future adults arriving. Dating is what these adults would use for, and ONLY dating. These people won’t build, they won’t imaginate, they won’t battle, they’ll only use it as an alternative for Tindr.

I feel like 17+ experiences are fine for finding other people your age to play games with but not for making relationships. Its roblox, a vast majority play it just to have fun and the small minority who play seeking relatioships are either predators or really downbad kids. what i think about this is we need to stop giving people excuses to not face the awkward and anxiety-inducing situation of going out with people, I've had 3 partners and they were all online, and it's terrible because once I gave that up and vowed to stop using that roundabout source, I tried very recently to ask someone out. Not only did I get too scared to talk to the person, but I just tried to DM them instead. It's bad. Our society is trying to escape negative feelings but we really shouldn't be doing that. David Baszucki is doing the EXACT opposite of TH-cam. For some context: Old TH-cam was intended to be an online dating app, but their creators saw the potential in a video sharing platform. Now, TH-cam is one of the most successful platforms ever. Roblox's turn to Online Dating will be a massive failure, especially if the whole website is converted, because children play roblox the most and some are GOING to get through verification, fake their age, and have developmental issues.
Like I said before, the best way to allow dating elements in Roblox is by keeping them in single player games only. Multiplayer dating games are just a ticking time bomb for their reputation.

I get that Roblox are maybe finding some ways to ensure that children don't get exposed to Online Dating but even if Roblox wants to just let ID Verified 17+ users Online Date there's always going to be a chance that any kid underage of 17 can gain access to mature content by an irresponsible parent or by a parent who doesn't understand technology well. I'm maybe single but never in my whole life been interested to online date especially in any games because there are a lot of creeps online.

As long as both of you know who you're actually talking with then the chances of any sort of "weirdness" (catfishing, predators, etc) lower dramatically. Obviously it's better if you have that "real life" connection but who knows? It might work out.

I have to admit, I do not really see an issue since most game developers do not mind if their users online date. The reason I do not see an issue is because online relationships are normal, they are just like real relationships. Whilst yes, kids do play Roblox, but so do adults. I feel like the Roblox community is overreacting.

i mean it's 5 years from now, that gives them plenty of time to set up precautions to prevent anything bad from happening, although this is just what i think.
See now if it was 18+ it would be WAYY more acceptable, and the fact that you need photo id proof to confirm the age is also a nice touch but having it only 17+ absolutely means minors would be in contact with non minors which can cause serious issues, its also the fact roblox was so strongly against online dating but are now highly considering this as a feature really makes you wonder. All thought aside though, if they changed the age to 18+ and ensured nothing sexual was happening during these interactions as well as used a very secure system to make sure people aren't faking ids to get into these experiences theres not much harm in this, though it is impossible to stop people from faking ages and using fake/other peoples ids
