The most important to deal with Vietnamese people is to know how to call people “anh”, “chi”, “em”, “chu” etc… you hit the spot Phuc, that’s why people like you because you understand their culture and tradition. It is very difficult to differentiate who and who and how to call them.
😁 I'm still having trouble with this. Vietnamese also differentiates how you refer to relatives depending on which side of the family they come from (Mom/Dad). It's actually a really convenient way to determine how the person is related to you but to the uninitiated it's very confusing.
Pronoun is the most difficult and complicate thing to learn in Vietnamese language, whereas the grammar is so easy. That means combining the words together to make a sentence and to make some sense. There is no male or female when referring to objects or an adjective and there is no single or plural when referring to a noun. I love Vietnamese language.
@@Melva-Tjong pronouns is the easiest thing to learn. Most of them, if not all, are easy to pronounce and that is all what it is about. If you consider tough and hard to learn few ways how to address someone, then that might be your own subjective problem..most people have zero issue. The only thing that is hard on Vietnamese language is the tones, the correct pronunciation. People dont learn because it asks for way more hours of learning…but all of that is connected solely to the toughness of the pronunciation so people understand what you are saying. Otherwise it is a fairly easy language from the grammar perspective.
Smashed the like and many thanks for this video upload Hurley. I really wish that I could speak Tieng Viet just as good as you do. You, your wife, Bingo and the rest of Saigon, South Vietnam stay safe out there!
I spent a lot of time in Cho Lon in 1966 teaching English and the Cho Lon branch of the Hoi-Viet My, and working my night-shift in a top secret Army communications intelligence building at Tan Son Nhat AFB. I was decoding VC messages into Vietnamese and then into Engish, Fun stuff for a yound soldier (actually I was 25 yrs old then). I would bike to Cho Lon taking the road that passes by the big stadium, then mostly empty of houses.

I was curious about the Kim sa buns and came across them in San Jose in CA a few days ago so I had to try. Didn’t expect the salted yolk filling to be sweet.
Phúc Mập oiii, I’m happy for to live vicariously in Sai Gon through your vlog. Back in the late 70’ when I was a kid there, we used to go to a restaurant that sell Hu Tiêu at the end of Ngo Tùng Chau street @ a roundabout called Nga Sáu Thánh Giong. I wonder if everything (street name, the Hu Tieu place, the statue in the middle of the roundabout) are still there ? Wouldn’t be surprised if all have changed!
Great video! I went to the Mach Kiem Hung Middle School next to the Thien Hau Temple. I used to skip school by running thru a door connecting the school and the temple. Thanks for the video. --tim.
Dear Phúc Mập, some details: when you exclaim your feelings you will use 'khó quá', 'đẹp quá',...while when you answer other questions about your opinions, you use 'quá khó', 'quá đẹp', 'quá tốt'... That's how to use 'quá'.
ya as a viet kieu the one thing that gets me confuse every time i come back to visit....is why there are so many businesses on the same street selling the exact same products lol... How does one stand out in a sea of competitors? is it hard for them to make money because of it? These are questions i want to ask but my viet is not good enough to askk any locals lol...
I heard that they can help each other with same products, when one lacks of one thing and borrows the next one. And when consumers think about a particular product, the street or area will come on their “top of mind” right away. So if they can’t buy a thing from their favorite shop, they can easily go to the next ones.
