The advanced cruise control and lane-keeping features of my Honda are useless. However, if you need to replace a windshield, it costs $1700. My front lane-keeping camera has started producing random errors on the dashboard display. The dealer quoted $1200 to replace the camera plus $450 to calibrate it. There is no way to disable lane-keeping even though I don't use it. I'm forced to live with random error lights on the dashboard display or pay for a feature that doesn't work (again).
Telsa's auto pilot is getting better but not flawless. Even though in 90% of situations it does well specific common ones like curbs or just very unique situations it's never had before can cause issues. So even with this technology it's best to air on the side of caution and be ready to take over.
I have driven Freightliner cascadia's with almost similar technology and I'm telling you from experience they suck. If anything when a car cuts you off even though you have a lot of distance in front of you it breaks very aggressively for no reason.

There aren’t 50 computers in a car, that would be way too expensive to build. Rather there is one computer (sometimes two) calculating in parallel the input from sensors from all over the car. So communication is inside and not in between different computers. Overall it’s also outdated info.
I think they are talking about the micro controllers. They are like little computers, but I don't think there would be 50 of them in a car, but there could be. Tesla has one computer, that what your probably thinking of. Most legacy car makers still have complicated systems with multiple big computer systems but are slowly transitioning over to just one main computer. 5:05 → no. Lidar is not "exponentially" faster than radar. It is in fact *linearly* faster, as a function of distance. Don't get me wrong, it's incredibly faster but it's not exponential!

This video report is very shallow and provides nothing of substance in terms of insight into how these systems work than any other similar video would have done 7 or so years ago. If you are reading this and have driven any car made in the last 5 years, or any car with any kind of autonomy in the last 10 years, don't bother wasting 6 minutes of your life and go watch an AI Driver or Sandy Munro car teardown video instead.
Interesting video. I have ProPilot Assist in my 23 Rogue. It's very helpful in keeping me in lane--especially on unfamiliar roads at night--and doing quick reaches to passenger or back seat. It requires your continued attention and will alert and finally stop you if it doesn't sense hands firmly on the wheel beyond a minute or so. It's the best of all worlds to me, I've seen too many videos of Tesla driver and passengers asleep as they drive down the highway--some with fatal consequences.
Assuming you're talking about 0:44 no the car isn't going to brake like that in a normal circumstance, that test activated the automatic emergency braking system which only activates if the car detects you're actually about to hit something which causes it to slam on the brakes like that.

Phantom braking was fixed with Tesla over the air updates back in 2023. The full self driving system Tesla uses is out of beta now and shockingly good.

Lane detection makes me a better fighter, not a better driver. Battling lane assist while driving round a curve is a darn right danger. I did this in a Florida rental, it was diabolical. It doesn’t do perfect curves, it does a series of straight lines. How bad a driver are you to need to keep a car in its lanes? Useless technology. Nothing to celebrate.

which year is your civic? I had exactly this problem in my 2022 and I was able to fix it for free.

no, almost each component has a computer attached to it. They come in the form of microcontrollers or ECUs, but they're definitely still computers

My Corolla adaptive cruise control appears to take 1-2 seconds to recognize when another vehicle has pulled in front of me on the road.
It’s so cool to see how far we’ve come with technology. Soon there won’t be accidents or road deaths.

Tesla needs to bring real sensors back and not rely on cameras along. Never follow a Tesla, phantom braking is real.
